Christmas haters and party lovers

December 2nd, 2009 by Shauna

One sign of the holidays: the bell-ringing of the red-kettle workers.

I’ve always wondered if those Salvation Army bell ringers enjoyed their jobs. Some of them really lack the Christmas cheer as you see them slumped in their chairs with barely a smile across their face. But still, that doesn’t mean they should be accosted by those so-called Christmas haters...

Christmas-hating Ohioan swipes red kettle
Associated Press

MAUMEE, Ohio — Police in northwest Ohio have arrested a man who they say swiped a Salvation Army red kettle full of donated money and pushed one of the charity’s bell ringers to the ground.

Police in Maumee say 44-year-old Shawn Krieger of Toledo grabbed the kettle Saturday evening outside a general store. When the bell ringer tried to take the kettle back, police say Krieger pushed her down and said, “I can’t stand you and your bell-ringing. I hate Christmas.”

Police say Krieger drove off in a pickup truck with the kettle and tripod it was hanging from.

Krieger was charged Monday with robbery and held on $25,000 bond. The judge will assign a public defender to his case.

The Salvation Army estimates the kettle held $500 to $700.

-----

Thumbs up or down to Christmas?

So...do you drop your spare change in those kettles? If so, are you choosy on which worker you go to? Or do you tend to avoid those bell ringers altogether, walking right past them or staying far away as you enter the store?

Have you seen any ODD ways in which some bell ringers try to attract donations?

And speaking of goodwill, there was a lot to go around as usual when some of us met up at Kaimuki Grill this past weekend. My night started off with a gift from Jack! Anyone remember this from a previous O&E ODD image of the day?

  2. sally:

    Good Morning Shauna!
    Good Morning jaydee!
and whoever else is waiting for coffee to kick in...

Shauna, your bangs were perfect! How come you didn't let me fix mine? hahaha

It was funny seeing Pee and Poo IRL, I thought they were littler.

  3. jaydee:

    NIce pics Shauna.

I heard that those Salvation Army bell ringers now accept debit and credit cards. Now that's keeping up with technology! :)

  4. KAN:

    Fort?

Nice pix! Seeing NKHEA with that smile is very reassuring . . .

    Jack! P&P? Aigoo . . .

  5. jaydee:

Speaking of Pee and Poo, where can I get one of those? They would make a great gift exchange present!

  6. KAN:

I will sometimes drop money into the S.A. kettles, especially if the bell ringer is cheerful. I'm much more likely to buy a Real Change (local homeless newspaper) from a vendor.

  7. sally:

In high school, we rang S.A. bells at Ala Moana Ctr. It was the thing to do back then, like Trick or Treat for UNICEF.

I drop coins sometimes when I see them. If they're not smiling I do a "test drop". If they perk up I drop again when I leave the store. If not, I leave.

C'mon, ya gotta at least give me a smile!

There was one in front of Longs Kaimuki one year, I ended up singing with her (shmall kine). hahaha She was fun!

  8. M:

Good morning jaydee, sally, KAN and da hive!

  9. M:

That was a fun night! :) great company and food! :) and the warriors won too! :) How can it get better than that! :)

oy yoi yoi NaPueo, is this the new Ren & Stimpy? Hoops and Yoyo? Bert and Ernie?

  12. matt:

morning. nice pics. looks like a lot of fun.

  13. Scott:

Good morning all! Nice pics, and Jack showed his face :)
I'm off to my final interview for a management position
with an insurance company. Exciting, huh?, But it's a good job :)
    (if I get it)...

  14. teejay:

    Morning all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Late start today.

  15. sally:

It's that time... to head off to work.

Good luck on your interview Scott. You gon ace 'um!

    Have a great day everyone!

  16. Ynaku:

Good Morning...... *yawn* Just got home yesterday. Vacuum, unpack, put away, pick up daughter from airport, etc etc etc.

Aw, you guys had fun Saturday :(

I want to apologize for being a "NO SHOW" to that gathering NKHEA setup for when I came over. I really wanted to meet the gang, ankles and sally and whomever I missed.

I'm sure you would understand family comes first. We had this trip planned from last year. Then my mom in law had emergency Gallbladder surgery a few weeks ago. Then her doctor gave her the Flu Shot. Friday she became ill, and I brought her back to the room about lunchtime. Saturday she stayed in bed all day. That night we helped care for her. Being the driver, I couldn't abandon them. I notified NKHEA to let the gang know I wasn't going to be there. But glad you all met and had a fun time.

    Bummers man. Melissa showed up.

Thanks for the goodies. NKHEA and IKHEA are great people. So are all of you.

Thank you Thank you Thank you.

Ynaku ................. gotta go catch up on yardwork then pick up in-laes from Airport. TTFN

  17. EMM386:

Morning all! Stealing the kettle is just not right. I give those guys slack for not always being cheery for three reasons: 1. It has to be the most boring job ever. 2. They are doing a good deed. 3. They have to listen to that bell for hours on end.

  18. M:

@Ynaku, like you said, family comes first. There's going to be another time. No worry.

I hope your MIL is better...

  19. anklebiters:

The picture of Rodney and Melissa....is Rodney asking her to dance :?:  Did she say yes :?:

    Ynaku:

Thanks again for the goodies...hope to meet you in May when I return. Your mom is ok now :?:

  20. M:

@EMM386, you gotta come to our next get togethers when ever that will be.

We left KG at 1am and Rodney, Paula and sally was still there singing away. :)

  21. M:

@Anklebiters, are you back in AZ?

  22. Eli:

Good morning and happy hump day!!

I always wondered if the bell ringers work an 8 hour day. If I had to sit there and ring that bell for 8 hours, I would look sad too. If they let you use an air horn once an hour then at least you would have fun. Everyone around you would probably give you stink eye. haha :P

Never seen any ODD ways to attract attention from the bell ringers. Just the usual sit on chair *ring ring ring* or standing up *ring ring ring.

MayBEE they should stand on their head *ring ring ring* or do a dance *ring ring ring* have some fun. :D

    Nice pics of the party!!

  23. Kage:

    Good Morning All!

I give if I have change and the bell ringer is smiling. If they look like they no like BEE there, I no give.

Looks like you all had fun on Saturday. Left at 1am? WooHoo, neva need pay for parking! Just slip out the side gate...was it open?
Did Rodney partake of the ice cream? If so, poor AP on the way home.... good thing he knows the "pencil" maneuver.

    JACK SHOWED HIS FACE!!!!

  24. The Dork Knight:

    Good morning!

I don't recall seeing very many bell-ringers last year. This year I see a lot more solicitors for other charitable and relief organizations. They like to park themselves right in front of the exit door so you can't avoid them as you leave the store. Must be a sign of the times.

Ynaku: Hope your MIL gets well soon.

QB: Be sure you keep your Pee&Poo stationary. Imagine the mess they would make if you let them run wild.

  25. opso:

    g'morning BEEps! :D

bah humbug! i neva get to go to da pahtay! waaaah!

looks like y'all had a fun time.....whilst i was enjoying playing in da rain in Hilo. :x

Ynaku - yeah.....family come first. and hope your MIL is okay.

    Jack -

  26. opso:

and speaking of the Salvation Army. when i was driving past the bayfront stores in Hilo.....i saw this sign......"The Sally Store". heh heh

it was a Salvation Army store. i didn't know they called it that.

    Ynaku - dass right eh?

  27. issunboshi:

I always give money to those kettles: Salvation Army, Cop on Top and Fill the Boot, but always on the way out of the stores...I once gave money on the way in and was like 2 dollars short because of it...ever since then it has always been on the way out.

Looks like i missed another great party

  28. BananaFysh:

    Good Morning Hive!

I try to give the bell ringers some change if I have some. I'd rather give them when I'm leaving the store, so I don't block the entrance. Some people get all irrahs at you if you happen to block the door for 5.352 seconds.

Only thing is, sometimes I forget to put the change in the kettle when I leave the store! Usually cause I just want to LEAVE THE MADNESS!

  29. HNL2LAS:

I try to give at least once during the holidays in the kettle. It's usually more though. It might be only $1-2, but I feel good knowing I gave something, even if I'm broke-arse... others need it more than me.

I heard about the credit/debit card too! That's amazing to me!! Uhmm but no thanks... I'll stick to giving them the dollar bills. Don't need another chance for some loser to steal my cc info!

  30. HNL2LAS:

I'm glad that grinch who stole the kettle got busted! GEEZ.. you hate the bell ringing, then no go there! You hate Christmas? Stay home! Ya know its everywhere!!

*shock* at Jack! Amazing!! Bahhahha was just a matter of time eh??

You guys looked like you had fun as usual, I'm sad I wasn't there, *pout*

ynaku: there is ALWAYS another time. Family is way more important!

  31. Shauna:

Morning...feeling under the weather today so staying home. Wonder who spread their Christmas germs on me yesterday?

The Dork Knight: Yeah, I saw that story about the kettles now taking credit cards. They are not yet available in Hawaii... And haha, I'll definitely remember to do that:

QB: Be sure you keep your Pee&Poo stationary. Imagine the mess they would make if you let them run wild.

opso: How ODD! The Sally Store. Must BEE cause sally is a very generous and giving person! ;)

issunboshi: You're so good to donate to all those good causes...I've seen those Fill the Boot firefighters walking through traffic in downtown... Oh no, that's funny how you were just short of the money you needed because of that donation. What are the ODDS of that? ;)

BananaFysh: Got it! You prefer out over in!

  32. BananaFysh:

Oooh, a picture of the mysterious Jack! 8)

And he was all paranoid when I tried taking a picture of him with my phone.

Looked like another fun party! Shucks, too bad I couldn't come up that weekend. :(

  33. Shauna:

Jack: It was OK to post the photo, right? Everyone is so shocked I'm wondering if I heard you right or am just doing what I want to hear!

HNL2LAS: Totally agree about grumpy people just staying home! BTW, did you see that Angry Asian Girl holiday design on the FB fan page? Cracked me up!!

Kage: Alright! I'd reward the happy, smiley person over the grouch! ;)

Eli and EMM386: I guess we don't really know how it feels like to BEE in the shoes of that bell ringer so I'm looking at it from the public's perspective. If you want people to give money, you need to at least look happy and appreciative when the person comes by...then again, grouches might attract other grouches who feel that person's pain and end up donating after all... ;)

  34. Shauna:

anklebiters: Not only did Melissa say no, she left early! What did Rodney say to her?

Ynaku: We missed you that night but totally understood why you couldn't make it. I just hope she is feeling better now and you enjoyed your vacation overall!! Thanks again for stopping by The Advertiser earlier in the week! I just love my new pink cooler bag!! :D

Scott: Good luck in the interview!! Are you wearing a tie?

KAN: What's that homeless newspaper like? Interesting!

  35. turk fontaine:

If you're gonna mug someone, go for the gusto. wrangling Sally's kash kettle is so wrong it's right. Charles Dickens couldn't have done it better.

  36. visitor:

Good morning. What a gorgeous day...clear skies, mild trades and no humidity.

I give the bell ringers a lot of credit. If you do it just once as a novelty, easy to be jolly. But more than that, I can see where you won't be smiling all the time. As for the culprit who stole the kettle, he should be sentenced to clean the bathrooms at the parks and homeless shelters

  37. HNL2LAS:

Jaydee: just read your comment from yesterday. Yah, B. and Mr. K both talked about me being a girl, that the car place would take advantage of me. BUT the guy was soo nice, and good! He would call me back to let me know before they did anything! Oh well, their labor and parts were darn expensive whatever the case is.

Sadly, it is places like the one your daughter had ('n me too I guess!) that give the industry such a bad name, even in Hawaii. Some people were so wary of my dad's shop, just because and its like uhhh... do you understand that he'll try to work with you, he's insurance listed... etc. Or when they'd bitch how expensive the labor was? Which it wasn't, I know of lots of places that were higher! EGADS do these people not get how much more places charge, like how I would have been??? My dad's rates looked like the dollar store!!!

Thanks, and you are a good dad for taking care of your daughters!! hee hee..

  38. HNL2LAS:

sally: bhahaha... I want a fireman under my tree too!! bhahha... I agree... we should all know someone with skeeels! hee hee... I'm grateful I got a big family.. gotta have someone in there who does electrical... plumbing... etc.. right??

  39. Shauna:

sally and HNL2LAS: Yeah, a fireman under the tree. Plus a handyman and PEST EXTERMINATOR (clean-looking one, of course!)!

jaydee: Jack ordered Pee & Poo online!

  40. David In Oregon:

Scott: Is that position working under Mrs. Chamong......that you posted about in one of the other blog entries?

  41. David In Oregon:

QB: Stationary set? As in, it doesn't move?

  42. David In Oregon:

Wow, Jack has finally revealed himself in pics. Before this, we didn't know Jack. ;-)

  43. David In Oregon:

QB: You mean all them hand sanitizers didn't do their job, and you're sick? WWD!

  44. David In Oregon:

opso: The Sally Store. Yes, I've heard it called that before. In fact, I've heard a couple people even call it Sally Ann's.

  45. snow:

    good morning HIVE!

i haven't been giving to the bell-ringers unless there is one who is cheerful. there's something i don't like about making a donation to someone who doesn't even say "thank you." i understand the drudgery of the job after a while but still...

woo hoo! looks like you all had a great time at the party! sorry i missed yet another one... boo! :(

ynaku - too bad you had to miss the party, too... but, family comes first and the HIVE understands that! hope your MIL is feeling is feeling better!! you are a good SIL; your MIL is lucky to have you!

qb - i'm not sure that i really want to see your pee and poo! those stuffed animals are cute, though! ;)

jack - is that you?????? i guess it was finally "time?" ;)

ankles - hope you had/have a good flight back to arizona! hope you see you when you come back again!

  46. snow:

scott - good luck! i'm sure you'll have a great interview!

  47. Rodney Lee:

No, I wasn't asking Melissa to dance.

She asked me "why are you bending over like that?"
I replied "I ate ice cream pie"
    That's when she left...

  48. snow:

qb - lots of germs going around... i'm trying not to get sick, too! take care and hope you're feeling better soon!

  49. snow:

rodney - TMI! ha ha ha... but, i feel sorry for aunty paula! (opso, maybe it was a good thing that you didn't have to ride with rodney! ) ;)

  50. snow:

HNL2LAS - glad to hear that your car troubles got worked out!! did you make it over to city center?

  51. M:

@Rodney, you wasn't suppose to bend over, you was suppose to do the pencil when that happens. (lol)

  52. Kage:

HNL2LAS - glad things worked out. I am curious too. Did you make over to City Square?

  53. Rodney Lee:

Christmas at Ala Moana Center is not the same without the bell ringers - especially the one that was between Liberty House and Shirokiya.

  54. David In Oregon:

Ummmmm Rodney, they sell pills (over the counter) to help you deal with that type of condition.

  55. Rodney Lee:

@M - was too late to do the "pencil" maneuver. What you see is me doing the "French curve".

  56. M:

  57. David In Oregon:

    French curve? Aigoo

  58. BananaFysh:

@Largo -- The "French Curve" quickly turns into the "Pepe LePew" doesn't it? ;)

  59. issunboshi:

I know it's getting closer to the weekend and if some of you are into finding some cool, inexpensive gifts the HSRA (Hawaii Sales Rep Assn) is having a sample sale this Saturday at the Blaisdell on the exhibition side from 9am -2pm.

It won't be a huge production like "Made in Hawaii" but there will be a lot of stuff. There will def be something for everyone there... If you guys come, stop by the booth with the "surf stuff" in it and say what's up!

  60. anklebiters:

Pooooooor Tiger....the truth that we all knew is now out....

I'm sitting here in the lounge and when his name was heard, everyones head turned toward the TV. Even the 'golden' child has his faults....something a driver and a wedge won't help him.....

  61. Creative:

Dang I look so white in the pictures! :P I should get a tan one of these days (at least on my face). Haha! Too bad you couldn't make it Ynaku. Maybe next time! Family always comes first, so I'm glad you were taking care of your mom. :) So is anything going on this weekend Shauna?

  62. matt:

I like George Lopez's analysis of the Tiger situation: "Let me put it in terms that golfers would understand. He played the wrong hole, had an errant drive and now he's got to get out of a bad lie."

  63. Rodney Lee:

Notice the picture with Queenie and Creative - I'm still "curving".

@issunboshi - I remember the HSRA sales when they were at the twin towers across Restaurant Row. I scored some Hang Ten shirts as they were trying to make a come-back.

  64. HNL2LAS:

Still no car, never have the parts they needed yesterday... supposed to have come in this morning. So no City Center for me... but tomorrow Crystals the shopping/restaurant area opens and the day after Mandarin Oriental opens... so eh.. thinking I'll wait anyway, so I can see all 3, instead of going 3 times!! Even though I'm one of the weird ones who like to check things out on opening day! Hehe.. and kinda hard to go without my car! bhahaah...

AND realized, holy crap, my landlord will be here next weekend!! GAAHHH I gotta hurry and finish, so the house looks at least presentable! Got the rest of my furniture today, the big stuff.. so cleaning and moving those around this afternoon.. hehe.. I'm taking a break right now!

  65. HNL2LAS:

UR: French curve eh?? Not da Koroki curve?? bhahahah...

HSRA sale? awww... oh well...hope you guys get great stuff!

  66. M:

@Shauna, where are we going saturday to watch da Warriors beat Wisconsin?

  67. BananaFysh:

    Kiki's has tvs, right?

If it does, I'll BEE there. ;)

  68. EMM386:

@Shauna: I see your point, but how many days have you started bright and cheery, and ended less than enthusiastic? They may have started out with the right attitude, but started drooping as the day goes along. I usually give when I exit the store no matter what the ringer looks like. It's like a pavlovian reaction to the red kettle and the bell.

  69. Shauna:

M and Creative: Party will BEE at a BEE pad... person who has the biggest house, 50-inch TV and no roaming pets!

    matt: Haha, good Tiger joke!

I like George Lopez's analysis of the Tiger situation: "Let me put it in terms that golfers would understand. He played the wrong hole, had an errant drive and now he's got to get out of a bad lie."

Rodney: Never noticed all those curves you had! ;)

issunboshi: Sounds like a cool fair. I've never BEEn to one of those. How are we going to recognize you? :D

  70. Rodney Lee:

Koroki - wa nan desu ka?

Wanna check out Vegas? And see the intersection that HNL2LAS was talking about?
    http://www.earthcam.com/swf/cam_player/enlarge_image.php?type=live&path=http://images.earthcam.com/ec_metros/ourcams/mgm.jpg&portrait=false&rotate=false&name=MGM%20Grand&width=704&height=480&img_width=320&img_height=240

  71. matt:

@QB, If you go to the fair to look for him, I'm guessing he'll be kinda short. maybe coming up to the soles of your feet (if you're wearing flats).

  72. issunboshi:

@ Rodney- Hang Ten? I remember those...I had to take school pictures in them when i was small. If you come by maybe you'll find something more contemporary for yourself. There is a vendor there with really nice aloha shirts too.

@ Shauna- I will be the youngest of the Japanese surf vendors, if that helps. Look for the Skullcandy display.

  73. anklebiters:

    Finally seated...

  74. M:

@anklebiters, have a safe trip back in 1st class.. :)

  75. Rodney Lee:

@issunboshi - my big bro (Rod's Big Bro) is looking for Op (Ocean Pacific) shorts. The kine short kine (not Dove shorts short) but like Hang Ten shorts from the olden (MLC) days.

As for the UH game, you folks know that it's on ESPN and doesn't require PPV, right? I was thinking of just watching it from home.

I was going to suggest KG's again, but just remembered that they said they're closed this weekend.

  76. Jack:

    8)

  77. Kage:

@Rodney- My niece saw a picture of her father, my bro and me wearing those short shorts back when it was fashionable. She said it was gross.... HAAhahahahaha.

  78. Rodney Lee:

@Kage - yeah, when I wast old surf movies and see Gerry Lopez in Hang Ten shorts, I'm thinking - "ho, those shorts are cut pretty high".

Try go find one old pair of those kine shorts and try em' on. Going feel funny.

  79. matt:

you guys think th op shorts were bad...try look at game film of the nba back in the 70's and 80's. same length shorts but on 6'10" guys

  80. issunboshi:

    @ Rodney-
Wow I remember OP (okole problem) and Stubbies shorts...we used to call them olo-huggers.

I know OP tried to make a comeback a few years back but that never really materialized. Sorry, but the brands I sell tend to be targeted toward a younger crowd so the inseams are a bit longer than the kind your brother is looking for. You guys should check it out anyway though...We may have something...you never know =)

  81. Shauna:

issunboshi: Do you have lots of girl stuff, too? OK, I'll remember to look for the youngest guy there if I go!

Rodney: So party is at your house?? :D

BananaFysh: Ooh, Mr. Banana will BEE in town! Kiki's parking is kinda junk, right?

anklebiters: Hope you have a wonderful flight home!! Enjoy your first-class meal!

EMM386: OK, good point. I often end the day less cheery. Though walking out the door is the best feeling of the day! ;)

  82. issunboshi:

@Shauna: my colleagues will be there with some girls stuff...definitely.
Come check us out. You might find some things for Christmas gifts. There was a vendor there last time selling novelty books which was pretty cool. Definite Odds and Ends material, fo' sho'...

  83. M:

    @Rodney, what time? :lol:

  84. midori-mm:

HNL2LAS: #37 And, your father is a straight shooter. My son was involved in an accident (lucky no one was hurt) years ago. I took the car to your father and after he looked at the car, he told me that he didn't think the car was worth saving. On the surface, it looked like it was just the door but there was more damage to the car that couldn't be seen. I took your father's advice and got rid of the car. Your father's reputation is that he does good work.

  85. Shauna:

NaPueo: I forgot to say earlier...that video was so cute! I still can't decide if I like Poo or Pee better!

issunboshi: Are you working there the whole time? I do still need to get more Christmas gifts!

  86. Rodney Lee:

Huh? What? My house on Sat? But um, ah... cable. Yeah. I don't have digital cable. Yeah, that's right. I forgot.

Huh? Me? Said I was going to watch it from home? Oh yeah. Ahhh. Yeah, From Home. I was going to watch it From Home. Since I don't um, you know... subscribe to cable, I'm going to be um, watching my neighbor's TV. From Home. Yeah, that it. From my home - I'll be watching through the window at my neighbor's TV. Yeah. That's what I'll be doing. That's why I said... From Home. Yeah. That's the ticket.
It might be too, ah~~~ you know, uncomfortable for you guys. Yeah. So maybe better not watch the game from my house. Yeah...

  87. JACK:

    Mornin’ Hive 8)

    Crazy fricken day

BF: Kiki’s has tater-tot nachos :D and Jacks Good Eats

Shauna: I hope your feeling better (so how much shopping did you get done….come on you can trust us

Jack……wondering how his picture got posted :?

  88. EMM386:

@Shauna: The way I look at it, any volunteer, even a less than ideal one is better than having no ringer at all. You may get less than with a happy guy, but at least you got something. Besides, they ARE volunteering which is better than 90% of the people out there.

  89. Shauna:

JACK: It's another Jack! Or is it the same as Jack and jack? :) Tater-tot nachos! Hrmph! Last time I tried for that they ran out of potatoes!! But cool Jack name! Um, Christmas...mostly for myself so far!

Rodney: Your comment was too long for me to read through. Let's cut the chit chat. So what time at your house? Make sure you reserve a good stall for the QB!

  90. Shauna:

EMM386: True about the lack of people who volunteer...though not sure if having a junk volunteer is better than none at all. One bad apple can suck. Though in the specific case of the bell ringers, any body is better than none cause you still can get some donations, as you said...

  91. David In Oregon:

QB: a "good" stall? You mean one with auto-flush?

  92. HNL2LAS:

midori-mm: awwww thank you so much! I'll have to tell my dad! Made me teary, haha.

  93. HNL2LAS:

tater tots nachos?? oooohhh that sounds soo good!

  94. matt:

    HNL2LAS,
I can give you one mission? back in the day, there were lots of Jewish people in LV. along with their residency, came numerous kosher eateries and delis. sadly, I can't seem to find any anymore. the last one I knew of disappeared a few years ago.
your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to find a good kosher deli or restaurant serving good pastrami and corned beef sandwiches (NY style). Not NYNY hotel and not Binions...the real deal.
    kthanks

  95. KAN:

  120. HNL2LAS:

Uncle Rodney: #70 Koroki=korean okinawan, that's you right?

Wow that live cam is cool .. I looked earlier and it gave me a different shot!

  121. BananaFysh:

Did M say he has a "nice rack?"

Glad you had a safe trip home ankles!

Sorry I missed you this trip. :(

  122. anklebiters:

I didn't pick up someone else's luggage tonight

I switched seats with a couple who were separated...at first I wanted to stay where I was since it's an aisle seat and in the first row and there is more leg room. But she had a slight handicap so I swapped seats and ended up sitting next to a woman who lives in Flagstaff and has a business in HNL. The flight attendant remembered both of us, she because she flew in on Monday and me because of the Heinie :!: This particular crew handling the front cabin was really attentive, unlike the ones flying into HNL. The gal must be a bit unsettled about flying cause she had I think 4 rum and cokes during the flight. She had really bad luck watching the Digiplayer...it kept quitting on her or the battery died...the 5th or 6th one finally worked ok. Watched a pretty neat movie about time travel...I like those types of movies....this one was The Time Traveler's Wife . It didn't really make sense at times...like he would see himself and his wife together, or his daughter and the daughter at an older age together...weird.

  123. anklebiters:

    sally/M/DiO/HNL2LAS/BF/Shauna:

A long day of travel :!: They must have changed planes on us cause they towed one in that was empty...we left the gate about 7 minutes late. But I'm HOME :!:

  124. anklebiters:

    BF:

I found the perfect xmas gift for you if you golf'd......a bright yellow BANANA driver head cover. I even took a picture of it...I'll post it on FB later. :-)

  125. Rodney Lee:

    @H2L - No, silly. It's Okirean! LOL.

Yeah, I'm jonesing for Vegas. I play the live shot and listen to KSNE (Sunny 106.5) and pretend Paula and me are in Vegas. Especially around the 5:00 PM (LV time) so I can hear the traffic report. I need my fix soon!

*btw, NFR (National Finals Rodeo) start this weekend and wrap up next weekend. If you can make it down to Freemont street anytime next week, there'll be some cool country music and line dancing (for sally) and lots and lots of cowboys and cowgirls. And big, rich ranchers on the strip. They're easy to spot. They're the ones exiting the limo with the huge belt buckles - made of solid gold.

  126. Rodney Lee:

@Anklebiters - say hi to your Vette for us. Glad to hear you're back home safe and sound. See you again soon.

  127. anklebiters:

    Rodney:

But those rich ranchers have a "trophy-wife-wannabes" in each arm :!: There's gonna be a lot of Yahoos around the arena.

When are you leaving for Vegas :?:

  128. Rodney Lee:

How about Kiki's on Saturday night for the game? NKHEA - you can pull some strings for us?

  129. Rodney Lee:

Was planning to go in Jan. for Paula's birthday as we always do, but my boss schedules a HUGE upgrade on that weekend. Actually, it was scheduled the weekend before, but an higher up changed it and my boss said "OK". So much for support.

  130. snow:

ankles - glad to hear that you made it home safely! glad you came home with your own luggage, too! you didn't leave enough cold in hawaii - i thought it would be cold here tonight (for us, anyway! ;) ) but so far, it's pretty warm. hopefully, next time you come back, i can join you all for golf!
