Holiday kisses...
December 1st, 2009 by ShaunaShake, shake. Kiss, kiss.
Ah, the holidays are just around the corner and you’ll probably be attending your share of parties. And that means lots of hugging and kissing.
Germs! Swine-flu fears! So how do you gracefully get through the please-don’t-touch-me greeting without coming off cold-hearted in this warm holiday season?
Well, the British are being told that kissing on the cheek should be just fine...
Christmas kissing: On the cheek to avoid swine flu
Associated Press
LONDON — Britain's authority on etiquette says it's more hygienic to exchange kisses on the cheek than to shake hands — so the swine flu pandemic should not make people afraid of kissing under the mistletoe this holiday season.
But Debrett's warns people to observe proper etiquette by kissing others on the cheek instead of the lips and to avoid touching the person being kissed except on the shoulder or the upper arms.
Debrett's etiquette adviser Jo Bryant warns people who are not feeling well to avoid parties altogether.
She also urges those who have been drinking a lot to steer away from the mistletoe — because their "social skills will be impaired." She did not elaborate on the swine flu implications of that.

So what’s your greeting style? Air kiss? Quick hug with your butt sticking out to avoid major body contact? Obligatory handshake?

First!
December 1st, 2009 at 12:44 am
I love that picture and those sayings! They're totally awesome!
Haha! I have a couple of mugs with similar sayings. As for the greeting thing, I usually do the traditional handshake or hug, but I have done the cheek kiss thing depending on the person.
December 1st, 2009 at 12:49 am
good morning HIVE! sheesh, my first thought when i looked at that picture was "ukuhead!" ha ha ha!
hmm... the cheek kiss greeting depends who the person is. i find that a lot of times i end up air-kissing because of the height difference between me and most people i know!

Snow:
We tourists....so short
Hand shake or a hug for me.....
December 1st, 2009 at 4:07 am
Good morning!!!
I was watching 60 MInutes this past Sunday and they did a story on Howie Mandel and his Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. He is so afraid of touching people with his hands he resorted to "fist-bumping" when he greets people.
Maybe in this time of infectious diseases and super germs we should resort to that instead of the traditional handshake? I wonder if it will catch on....
December 1st, 2009 at 4:17 am
Sorry, it wasn't 60 Minutes. It was a ABC World News report:

December 1st, 2009 at 5:09 am
Good Morning!
I'm a hugger. hug hug hug. Lip kiss reserved for very specific people. Our joke is that we need to start saying goodbye 30min before we actually want to leave anywhere. Hugg hello, Hugg goodbye.
December 1st, 2009 at 5:30 am
Good Morning.
Jaydee: They were discussing this on The View a couple of months back and they seemed to like the fist bump, too. But, I notice that they always greet their guests with hugs.
A handshake or a hug is fine with me.
December 1st, 2009 at 5:38 am
Good Morning!!!
Snow: Hey!!! I resemble that remark...
December 1st, 2009 at 6:14 am

***Have a feeling that I'll be getting a lot of fist bumps the next time I meet up with the hive***
December 1st, 2009 at 6:26 am
Almost time to leave for work. Have a great day today!
anklez: have a pleasant flight back.
(((hugg)))
December 1st, 2009 at 6:31 am
Morning! Sorry, can't say good morning, cuz its not!!!
Ukuhead: last comment on previous entry, I WISH!!!
Since my car was basically sitting here in the desert, only being run when I came up? I was told to get it serviced. OK, after I finish getting everything outta storage, and no one is here visiting. Car thought that was too darn long and sounded AWFUL on Sunday. Like it was gonna fall apart, metal sounding etc.
Took it to the car place nearby yesterday, walkable distance so that's good. Yesterday they said they think its the water pump or the timing belt, but to go into it $320 labor just to CHECK it out, ohhh but it'll go toward the repair of the water pump, blah blah... not including parts or any other labor for anything else.. etc.. GAWD.. This morning, it isn't the water pump or the timing belt?
It's my freaking AC system!! It's coming apart, and shooting freaking metal all over, which is why I heard those grinding, metal sounds!!?? It's COLD, no need AC but needs to be done to run? OVER $1600 freakin dollars!!! Uhmm jobless? Basically penniless at this point.. and now THIS??? GAH!!!!
December 1st, 2009 at 6:32 am
Good morning anklebiters, jaydee, teejay, OL, sally, midori-mm, ukuhead, Jack and da hive!
hand shake and hug, no kisses.
Group hug hive!!
December 1st, 2009 at 6:38 am
hugs and cheeky air kiss, good deal! heehee
December 1st, 2009 at 7:31 am
Aloha All! I prefer to give a good firm hug. Besides, I wouldn't want you to kiss my cheek knowing my dughter's dog gave my face a tongue bath.
December 1st, 2009 at 7:44 am
Morning!
buddahbelly: Ack! That's good to remember! There are probably lots of folks who let dogs lick their face!!!
HNL2LAS: Or real kiss from your knight in shining armor, right?
And sorry to hear about your car!!
So what are you going to do now? E-mail me your new home address when you get a chance!
M: Woo-hoo! Group Hive Hug!!
Ukuhead: Yes, only fist bumps for you now on!!
Well, it's not like we see you anymore anyway, Mr. Anti-Social!
December 1st, 2009 at 7:49 am
Ocean Lover: Hug, peck and smile... sounds good! Wonder how often you see people kissing others on the forehead...Or is that reserved for children?
sally: I know what you mean about having to say your goodbyes early. It always takes so long for people to actually leave anyplace...
midori-mm and jaydee: Fist bumps are probably the cleanest way but I still think it's more of a guy thing, unless you're cheering at a game, playing darts or sports, etc... Wouldn't it BEE kinda ODD if we greeted each other with fist bumps when we met up? Especially if it was the first time. Speaking of which, I still haven't met both of you IRL!
teejay: Set your alarm earlier so you can stay in bed longer!
jack: XOXOXOXO! Ho ho ho, Happy December!
December 1st, 2009 at 7:51 am
Spent the last 1.5 hours calling home and NO ANSWER! Frick.. and I can't see, its all dang blurry.. WITH my glasses on!! Man, my eyes are getting worse and worse... dang.. AND with no car, I can't see the new hotel that opens this morning, can it get any more crappy today?? GAH!
Gotta ask the parents to bail me out.. again.. geeeez.(like they got money, they've had to help me move/mom came to help settle in! frick)... huh, my only conosolation is that hmm even if I took the car in earlier?? Probably would be paying the same anyhow, haha.
December 1st, 2009 at 8:08 am
Good Morning All!!
Nice and cold(for Hawaii) this morning. I hope it keeps getting colder everyday. Would be nice to wake up in the 50s.
My greeting style...... depends.
For the guys - A handshake. A handshake with a "bruddah hug". Chest bump.
For the ladies - A small hug. A big hug. Add a kiss on the cheek. Chest bump.
December 1st, 2009 at 8:16 am
Shauna,
Re, yesterday's post. Were you purposely head-tilting into that guy's pec?
December 1st, 2009 at 8:21 am
bamboohouse808
chest bump for both men and women? i know you're going to say "gender equity"....
December 1st, 2009 at 8:21 am
I'm a handshaker personally, but will give hugs to my close friends who are female if they come in for one.
December 1st, 2009 at 8:33 am
Creative: Yeah, I love these images. The sarcasm and humor crack me up every time! And good job on getting first quite a lot! And just to clarify, do you also hug guys?
Or is that always a handshake?
snow: Fist bump!
Height difference? Tell me about it!
anklebiters: How do the people in AZ do it?
December 1st, 2009 at 8:36 am
chawan_cut: I do normally tilt my head but his big chest stopped it from going any more!
bamboohouse808: Wonder if chest bumps hurt?? Is it worse with more padding or not? Hmm...some stuff you may never know...
EMM386: What if the girls also want a kiss? Haha!
December 1st, 2009 at 8:37 am
maybe swine flu was bio-engineered to take out the mafia?
BH808: we all know the ladies have chest bumps. no need point it out.
December 1st, 2009 at 8:50 am
Good morning and happy Tuesday!!
Chest bumps or the jumping hip bump for everyone.
With my mad hop skillz if I try to do the hip bump with someone who is 5'1" my hip would probably hit their head. haha
December 1st, 2009 at 9:05 am
Good morning.
@HNL2LAS - Hang in there...things will settle.
Kind of greeting depends on the person and how well you I know them. Also, the environment...formal setting or informal get together.
December 1st, 2009 at 9:24 am
QB: I'll answer for AB. In AZ, they usually sloooowly brace their left hand on the rail of their walker as they slooowly raise their right hand to wave in greeting.
December 1st, 2009 at 9:28 am
Guud morning Hive! Wow, choke busy this morning.
Aigoo, HNL2LAS - that's tough.
I'm a big huggy person, but didn't kiss much until moving to Seattle - lots of people from Hawai`i that do it here, so I've grown to be more kissy. (I know, TMI.)
December 1st, 2009 at 9:29 am
Shauna - My chest doesn't hurt when I do it, so I think you'd be fine.
matt - Not all the ladies.......
I better stop before Santa leaves me a lump of coal in my stocking.
December 1st, 2009 at 10:19 am
Good Morning All!
Air kisses on the cheeks for girls.
Handshake for the guys.
If I know the guy well enough, we may do the brohug.
@HNL2LAS - hang in there! It will get better for you, for sure.
December 1st, 2009 at 10:33 am
Shauna: Whe we do meet IRL I'll give you a fist bump.... then a big hug!
December 1st, 2009 at 10:40 am
matt: You are not talking about Mafia Wars are you?
And this is a good one!
Eli: Haha! That image of your hip hitting someone's head cracked me up! Totally want to see your mad hop skillz though!
visitor: The environment totally matters. Just hate it when it gets awkward cause the other person doesn't know how to reciprocate smoothly...
December 1st, 2009 at 10:43 am
KAN: Kissy kissy! You're talking air kiss? For those who do it on both sides of the cheeks, is it the left or right side you're supposed to do first?
bamboohouse808: You're saying you have a small the kind?
And yeah, lump of coal if you're lucky! Did you find my mini bling bling yet? Chop chop!
Kage: For some reason I wanna see you brohug Ocean Lover!!
jaydee: Woo-hoo! BEEg hug for me!
HNL2LAS: Oh yeah, I have to applaud you for your wonderful frick inclusions!
Bravo!
December 1st, 2009 at 10:50 am
@QB: the only person I kiss on both cheeks (steady, there, the cheeks below her eyes!) is the co-owner of Panos Kleftikos, where the Bananafyshes and Sweetie and I had dinner - it's a Greek thing. Otherwise I usually kiss a check, or in the cases of a couple of people, lips. I know, I know. Sweetie and I are taking a friend to dinner there tonight for his birthday. I just hug that particular friend.
December 1st, 2009 at 11:00 am
@Shauna - I dunno OL that well....haahaa.
December 1st, 2009 at 11:17 am
nah, not mafia wars. you know how, in all the mafia movies they greet each other, man or woman, with a kiss (usually just before they are going to kill them)?
December 1st, 2009 at 11:20 am
Good Morning Hive!
Not big on hugging and kissing, but will do it if the other person does the "lean in."
Well, mostly. In some cases, I'm the "instigator" of the lean in.
Handshake, bro-hug, fist bump, it's all good. Just no "butt slap."
Gotta draw the line somewhere.
December 1st, 2009 at 11:26 am
BananaFysh: OOH! Butt slap! JUST KIDDING!
matt: Surprise attack!
Kage: That's why it would BEE even better!!
KAN: Choosy cheek kisser!
December 1st, 2009 at 11:36 am
@KAN -- Aren't ALL cheeks "below the eyes?"
I guess you are talking about the ones "above the neck" in this case, huh?
@Shauna -- Okay, I meant no butt slaps from GUYS.

good morning HIVE!
qb - for people your height, i think i'd end up air-kissing at a height above the top of your head!
hee hee...
bananafysh - thanks for the clarification about the butt slaps...
HNL2LAS - musketeer!!!!!!!!!!!!! aigoo!
things will get better - hopefully, you're able to fix your car quickly! keep your chin up!

*okay, where's the centrum platinum???
*
December 1st, 2009 at 12:15 pm
@BF: good point - I should have clarified that I meant the cheeks immediately below her eyes!
Hmmm, I sense a gender discrimination claim here. Assuming some guy would want to bring it.
December 1st, 2009 at 12:16 pm
@snow, #47: I think bh808 stole it.
December 1st, 2009 at 12:28 pm
HNL2LAS:
Sounds like your clutch expired or froze. Son called the other day with the same symptoms. I told him to spray the clutch area with WD40 to see if that will loosen the clutch, it did. He bought all of the parts and borrowed the puller for the clutch and did the work himself
WOW
I've got a probie gearhead in the making ...
If you don't have serpentine belts you could just take off the belt for the a/c compressor till next spring and fix it then. Even if you do, some cars have a separate belt for the compressor so you can leave it out too.
sally:
I don't leave till tomorrow...mailed my 30 lbs of stuff home today. I should have taken it with me on the since it's free.
matt:
Only if you live in Sun City or Sun Lakes...the geriatric capital of the US, next to Florida.
Shauna:
During the summer, they just wave to each other from the comfort of their air conditioned car
In the winter they give each other the bear hug to keep warm
The other times, peck on cheek or lips.
BambooHouse808:
Be careful of what you wish for....I did receive a lump of coal once for Xmas from my GF... the real present was opened later...she labeled the present "Open 1st", "Open 2nd"
Sometimes her dry sense of humor takes over....
December 1st, 2009 at 12:41 pm
I "leave" here for a bit and you BEES bee yacking about "brohugs", "cheeks", and Banana's all phobic bout butt slaps.
Then I remember HNL2LAST bit of bad luck in SIN CITY.
The best advice I can give to HNL2LAST "Girl, you bettah go to fricken CHURCH!"
OL...............hoping no lighting bolt comes down from da heavens
December 1st, 2009 at 12:54 pm
@KAN -- Yes, I gender discriminate about butt slaps.
@OL -- I think we need to send the JESUS BOOK to HNL2LAS!
December 1st, 2009 at 12:56 pm
@ Banana.......either send the JESUS BOOK to her (BTW............WHERE did it go?) or teach her to sing "Kumbaya"
OL........................whoever's got the JESUS BOOK.....fess up
December 1st, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Thanks guys! It DID get better, uhmm after it got worse of course. My dad finally called back and said well AC is expensive... but then the questions came flying! Where you took 'um, you know them(?), where dat, ask Mr. K. (my fren's dad who lives here, car guy, etc..) who to go to. He knows people you can trust, blah, blah, blah! Explained I never like bother them, the other shop I went to before is far away, car was so bad I didn't think I'd make it to the other shop, this one I can walk home..... Then the yelling.. "I dunno, I no can do nuttin from over here, just call Mr. K."..etc.. GAHHHHH!!
FINE DEN!! Called Mr. K, who told me, I'll get you, we'll get the car, and figure out what's going on, take it to another shop if have to! Come to find out.. I WAS gonna get charged for stuff I don't need to have done, the labor was MADNESS, and overpriced for everything! So B & Mr. K. are fixing my car, for WAYYYYYYY less then what I woulda paid .... at what they told me is the MOST expensive place to have taken my car... sigh....I thought I was doing good, no bother anyone, I get coupons.. ohhhh well.... hahah so I'll have my car hopefully this afternoon!!!! yayyy
Which means, I MAY be able to check out the new hotel!!
December 1st, 2009 at 12:58 pm
I am guilty of the "good game" butt slap, but only with certain company; other than with close friends it can be a bit awkward...
The Hawaiian cheek kiss is unavoidable here...if you don't reciprocate when the aunties lean in, you will be the stink talk of the party. Like you too good for kiss back or something.
I am a fan of holiday kissing, esp when the weather gets colder...Nothing beats a holiday make-out sesh when the weather outside is cold...makes things more toasty, agreed?
December 1st, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Bahhaah I just read OL and BF's comments! I was busy writing!
Heheh eh... JB?? NO BACKS!!! Hmmm I am honestly thinking about going back to church though!! Not fricken church, just church! hehe...

Thank you! Well, it was part of my compressor, but crud, I can't remember what B said.... some belt or something that's connected to it is shredding, I think.

December 1st, 2009 at 1:43 pm
@HNL2LAS - glad things seem to be working out. Good things happen to good people. And things usually settle after the initial shock.
I worry about my daughter living and going to school away, and the "unexpecteds" that can pop up. I felt your anguish...
December 1st, 2009 at 1:51 pm
@HNL2LAS, glad to hear everything is working out. Just keep positive thoughts.
December 1st, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Bolo head row? A former friend of mine, let’s just call her Candy

Hugs, cheek kisses, handshakes--just go with the flow and try to keep your hands away from eyes and mouth. If eating finger food, try to wash hands before or use hand sanitizer.
@HNL2LAS: Glad things worked out with your car.

HNL2LAS, LV Blvd and Trop? Friday night? that was you? made me late for dinner!! (nah).

I'll just say that the bestest hug and kiss is from your kid. Nobody has or ever will surpass my son's hugs (he won't give his dad a kiss anymore since he is at that age). Angie would be close but still short of my criteria. Okay maybe it would be the same, I don't know but I would love to find out.

NKHEA:
Thanks for dropping off the cool bag and hat from Ynaku. Do you do house remodeling too?
Ynaku:
Thanks for the omiyage....I could have used it on Friday golfing
Spend the afternoon at Golftec, across from Ala Mo, for a personal club fitting. I felt like I played 18 afterward
It's tiring work hitting balls for them to analyze the clubs they recommended. They recommended the Callaway X-22, but I'm partial to Taylor Made
. They used your 6 iron for the control club and compared it against the other clubs. I did find out that my club head speed for a 6 iron is 81mph, the optimum for me, the ball speed at 108, a bit below optimum, and 169yds in distance. The back spin was 5330 rpm, about a 1,000 above the optimum. That's strange, I don't see my shots to the green backing up a whole lot
That probably accounts for my high iron shots and decrease distance. They have a $99 special going on.
They have a Golftec nearby in a Goldsmiths store so that's where I'll bee looking for new clubs when I get home. They will do a swing analysis for you with front/side split screen video and full upper body motion analysis.

Here's an O&E story.....have you ever wonder where your previously owned car is
My son called me and said to take a look at Auto Trader online and I'll see my Z-28 for sale in some dealer's lot in California
Not much mileage has been put on it since I sold it in '06. That was a fun car to drive and surprised a few C5 owners

@ HNL2LAS:
I hate it when auto repair shops take advantage of women. A few years ago when my daughters were at college in San Diego, one of their cars needed new tires. They took it to a local auto repair place and they gave her the "song-and-dance" about this needing to be fixed and that needing repair. The bill was going to be $800!
I called the repair shop and talked to the manager. I asked him what repairs were needed. He said," Well, it needs new struts, the brakes are bad and the alignment is out. I told him, "don't do any repairs to the car....they'll get their tires elsewhere." He started to tell me that it wasn't safe to drive , blah, blah, blah. I drove down there (90 miles) and got the car. Turns out all it needed was new tires like I thought. Some people are so dishonest.
Glad everything worked out for you, HNL2LAS.

@ ankles:
I have Callaway irons, V-Fusions. I love them, best irons I ever hit. I bought the FT-9 driver a couple of months ago and I gained 15 to 20 yards off the tee. I must sound like a commercial but I love Callaway clubs. I even hit Callaway HX Tour golf balls!

Good Morning Hive!
8hrs of sleep! If I didn't have to go to work, I'd still BEE in bed.
jaydee & HNL2LAS: I'm so grateful I got my nephew for car issues. I took my car to JiffyLube (on his reccomendation) but, of course, they found "other" things (granted, legit things). I called my nephew and he said "$125 for a trans flush? Don't do it!" So I did the other things only. He did the trans flush.
Everyone should have someone (if not themselves) who can fix cars. And how to fix washing machines. And how to do plumbing and electrical work. And how to build things. And how to cook. And clean.
Dear Santa, please put a fireman under my tree.
