Happy Thanksgiving!

November 26th, 2009 by Shauna

Just wanted to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. May you all enjoy some great meals with family and friends.

And whether you'll be working hard doing all the cooking or exerting energy lifting that fork to your mouth, don't forget about that nap!

Survey: 58 percent plan turkey day naps
UPI

CANTON, Mass. — Massachusetts-based Dunkin' Donuts said its survey suggests 58 percent of U.S. adults plan to take a nap on Thanksgiving Day.

The company said its survey of 500 adults, conducted last week, found 58 percent of respondents are already planning a Thanksgiving nap, with 60 percent of men plotting a brief siesta and 58 percent of women doing the same.

The survey found 76 percent of those planning naps prefer to doze off after dinner while 24 percent plan to rest up before the big meal.

-----

And once again, let me know if you spot any ODD food items on your Thanksgiving table.

One of the things I usually have to eat on Thanksgiving is some pumpkin pie (though now they sell them year round at Costco). Though for those who love it just as much as me, you might want to think twice after seeing this ODD photo of the day!

-----

And last but not least, there's one more business you need to tend to today: Wish The Hive's eldest member a happy birthday! We love you, NKHEA! And tomorrow let's wish snow a very happy birthday!

A final reminder that we'll be getting together Saturday night at Kaimuki Grill. For those who want to catch the UH football game, we're meeting at 5 p.m. But feel free to pop in throughout the night!

    Guuuuuuuud TG (Turkey-Gobbling) morning, Hive!

I am thankful for Shauna, her ability to find the weirdest news stories and photos, and her capacity to make us feel welcome. I am thankful for NKHEA (happy birthday!) and his everlasting (open-mouthed) grin. I am thankful for snow, who is a good person (and which I can tell even though I've never met her IRL) (happy early birthday!).

Sally: while I was still living in Kane`ohe, it became a holiday tradition each year to take a picture of my dad after he'd fallen asleep in the recliner after dinner.

    Happy napping.

    Good eats everyone!

  28. KAN:

Careful, Ukuhead, your death day may be 11/29 (just kidding, just kidding - no actual death threat involved).

  29. sally:

My new nephew (4 yrs old), I help with babysitting, preschool pickup, etc. They've been making construction paper turkeys and stuff at school. I picked him up last week and told him about the turkey I won and it was in their refrig at his house and did he want to see it? He was excited and said "Yah!"

So we get home and I open the refrig "where's the turkey, aunty?" I said "here, in this bag". Well, there's this what must have looked like a big rock wrapped in plastic and he said "THAT'S a turkey?"

He probably was not impressed, thinking his colorful turkey was better looking. ha!

    Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!!!!

  30. Rodney Lee:

Happy Thanksgiving to Queenie and the Hive!

    No "pencil" maneuver for me.

Rod ... ** staying away from the dairy products **

  31. sally:

I gotta ask... what's da pencil maneuver? I was absent at that Triad Party. eek, sounds like something related to PreeMo.

  32. Ocean Lover:

    Hahahahahaha..........today is:

    "BLAATT BLAATT OTTOOT" Day!"

The only day in the year when its EXPECTED! ;-)

Drink some BEErs along with the pumpkin pie and you BEE on your way......celebrating "BLAATT BLAATT OTTOOT" Day

OL..........anticipating a lot of SORE TUMMIES this evening

  33. KAN:

I gotta ask... what's da pencil maneuver?

Uhoh, Sally, do you REALLY want to know the answer to that question? Truth be told, I've been wondering the SAME THING but do I want to know?

BTW, It's 2:30 Seattle time, and I'm still in my PJs. So far, mission accomplished. Watching the "Mythbuster" marathon. Woot!

  34. Eli:

Happy Thanksgiving to Shauna and the hive!!

Happy Birthday to NKHEA and snow.

Just waiting for the turkey to finish roasting so I can carve that turkey. Went to Marie Callender's yesterday to buy a pumpkin pie. I love their pumpkin pies.

  37. che:

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

    NKHEA, happy birthday.

    Okay, now nap time.

  38. KAN:

Just had dinner. Turkey was dry, but everything else was pretty good. Finally saw "Ratatouille" that Sweetie had taped (?) years ago. Too late for nap, so I'll have to stay awake. :-D

  39. Scott:

Happy Birthday NKHEA and Snow. It has beeen my pleasure to meet and chat with you both this last year in real life.

4 hours of driving today and I'm tired!

*sigh* I am so happy. :P

Time for moe moe so can go back early tomorrow morning. With over 15,000 people in the convention center, you better find your seats really quick.

  45. NEO:

To the one and only Queen Bee!

Happy Thanksgiving! I know that I have been negligent of my blogging duties, but know that I do think about you all very often, just that my current work schedule has me away from computers for an extended period of time during the day. I truly am grateful to those whose comments make me smile, and especially to the queen herself for writing this blog, and allowing all of us to comment on it. We hivers are truly blessed to have you Queen Shauna...

    NEO (thankful for the hive)

No work today! yippee. Just go cut hair. Unfortunately, the place is across the street from WalMart. 12:30 appt, I should leave in half an hour?

  61. M:

I heard the PC Walmart was nuts. traffic jam and blocked intersections.

  62. KAN:

Happy Birthday Snow! Wishing you many more happy ones!

Slept in this morning. I burned the first two batches of sweet bread french toast for breakfast (grrrr!) Thank you, M, NKHEA, Jack and che for working today so other people can have the day off - you guys rock.

Clear skies in Seattle today - the retailer and shoppers (and loafers, like me) will all be happy.

  63. Creative:

I heard Walmart was crazy this morning. On the radio, there were reports of people fighting over $3 pajamas and $4 onion slicers. WTH?!! I guess that's why I never go to Black Friday sales. I did go one year when CompUSA was still open and it was crazy. I got lucky since the town store had two entrances and the main line was in front of the main entrance, but they opened the side entrance and so me and a few other people asked if we could go in that way and we got in. Needless to say I got what I wanted (Cheap Hard Drive) and got out of the store in about 30 minutes (most of it was waiting in line). :)

  64. Ukuhead:

    Happy Birthday Snow!!!

I hope you get off for your birthday...

The day off from work that is...

    Good Morning Hive!

Happy Birthday Snow! :D Hope it's a good one!

Just got home from shopping. Got some deals, but missed a bunch too. :(
Oh well, that's okay. Not like I needed that stuff anyways. ;)

Our Wal-Mart was pretty crazy, but I don't think it's anything like Oahu's. I went in and out in about 30 minutes with an armload of $3.20 dvds. :D

  68. HNL2LAS:

Happy Black Friday to da Hive! bhahaha.... I gave in and went today... planned on going at 3 to the outlets, then Kohls at 4, etc.... righhht.. uhh NO, wasn't feeling so good.. musta ate waaaay too much.. got up and left at 7! So, I know I missed out on some stuff too.. das okay.. not needed stuff like BF said...or that I really shoulda bought it with no job, hardly any moola and maxed credit card! Lines to pay was mad.ness!

bhahaha.... got Christmas presents though and stuff I NEEDED! Snuggie for $7(!!!) so I don't use the heater already-save on the power bill... slim hanger sets from Bed, Bath and Beyond-to finally finish hanging up my clothes... YAY!!

  69. HNL2LAS:

Happy Birthday to Sista Snow! Day after Turkey day bayBEE hee hee..

  70. midori-mm:

happy belated thankgiving HIVE!?! (oops, schmall kine late! ) hope you all had an enjoyable holiday!

thank you for all of your birthday wishes!! last year, i never would have thought that we'd all become such great friends... what a great gift that has been! thanks qb, BBDs, honeyBEEs, and musketeers for adding lots of good times and laughter to my days and, certainly, to my year! looking forward to sharing a lot more good times with the HIVE! :) and... hope to meet some of our newBEEs too!!

NKHEA - hope you had a great birthday! how was dinner?

  73. anklebiters:

Just got home from golf at Ko'Olina.....talk about WIND :!: I hope stateworker had a nice day out there today. It was worse than at Hawaii Kai on Monday. There was no break at all in the wind. It was blowing 20-30mph all day long. If it wasn't blowing in your face it was sideways...not many blowing downwind. I did have a drive of 320yds on one of the holes if the GPS was correct  I swear I almost paid $1 a stroke to play...visitors green fees were $180 :!: Kamaina rate was $85...brother did pay about $1 a stroke as he shot an 81 in the hurricane. The courses here are almost as bad as AZ in green fees during the winter :!: Had pupus at Roy's there afterwards...not bad fuud.

Talked to SM about Black Friday shopping....her brother waited in line at Walmart at 2am so he could buy one of the TV on sale. She stood in line outside Target at 5am and didn't get in the door until 05:40 and finally checked out at the cashier at 07:20. Peeps are crazy to be out shopping....nothing is worth all of this, no matter how much you save on the limited quantities. I gave up on Black Friday shopping years ago...deals and items aren't so great..

GF said she had a great time shopping, no huge lines of peeps waiting for the store to open. Who the heck goes shopping in NH when its freekin' below freezing. You could get frostbite and lose a few extremities in the process. That's why I could never live there...the winters are so COLD :!:

  74. NKHEA:

snow; I had a great BEEday, thanks :D hope you did too ;) :D

    NKHEA..... goin dinna now

  75. teejay:

UH basketball is on. UH vs UNM.

    Go Bows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  76. anklebiters:

    teejay:

Stay away from the dark side....

  77. David In Oregon:

    Good evening QB and Hive!

  78. Shauna:

Hello! I am pooped!! I think I must have BEEn shopping for 12 hours! Waikele outlets were crazy! Had to wait in line OUTSIDE the Coach store, fight the crowds inside and then wait even longer in line JUST TO PAY!! Also hit Costco, Target and Ala Moana. The line was still long at Victoria Secret this evening so I didn't even bother waiting.

    Pooped pooped pooped!

  79. David In Oregon:

I thought Queen Bees don't go shopping. I thought they had worker BEEs to do that for them. :-D

  80. M:

    Good evening hive!

    Shauna said she pooped...

  81. David In Oregon:

    no, she said pooped pooped pooped. :lol;

  82. David In Oregon:

hopefully it wasn't BLATT BLATT OTTOTT

  83. visitor:

Long day almost over, but Birthday wishes Snow!

Ala Moana/Kahala...all day...I know how you feel Shauna.

  84. stateworker:

Anklebiters: Yeah it sure was windy, kept looking for the knob to turn off the wind all day. Actually when we started it was pretty good but we were playing directly into the sun, then after 3 holes wind started. Think I saw you on the range when I made turn. Was going over to introduce myself but felt all I would do was discourage you from playing.

It was so windy almost had my cup of beer blow over at the bar.

  85. snow:

    good morning HIVE!

yay! just finished setting up our new TV! we got the last one at don quixote tonight... thank goodness, 'cause they thought they were sold out earlier today (so they took down the sale sign) but, later, they found some in the storeroom! we lucked out! :)

we didn't do too much shopping on black friday, though we did go to waikele last night at 10 pm. wasn't too bad then... but was pretty crowded when we left shortly after midnight (which was when all the stores opened). went to ala moana in the afternoon and it wasn't too crowded but didn't buy any gifts! finally, went to walmart (wiped out of TVs but we got one gift!) and don quixote.

  86. snow:

visitor - thank you for the birthday wishes! :)

  87. snow:

qb - the line at the coach store last night was totally ridiculous!! went around the length of the whole backside of that section of stores! we wanted to go there but there was no way we were going to stand in that line!

  88. M:

    Good morning Hive!

masako yesterday went shopping at Home Depot, Kmart, Crazy Shirt and Costco. She had a whole car load of stuff.

    Pah-tay tonight!

  89. M:

After masako came home from shopping she was BEEzy in the kitchen making potato salad, baked a pumpkin crunch cake and rum cakes for part of our Thanksgiving dinner last night with my parents and her parents.....

  90. matt:

yesterday, driving near the stores started getting me all aggro. I can't imagine what it was like actually going inside to go shopping. had a nice day, though, culminating with the christmas tree lighting at union square. kinda nuts how many people were shopping, how many lights and decorations were up and how many stores were packed to the door. recession? what recession?

  91. Shauna:

Morning!! Anyone going to the Blaisdell craft fair today?

matt: That is definitely the theme of the year. What recession? Despite countless stories about this terrible economy, restaurants are always packed, malls look pretty busy and people seem to BEE spending...

M: Wow, I can't BEElieve Masako did all that after shopping. Remember how pooped I was? ;)

snow: Awesome that you lucked out on that TV! Must BEE you are a lucky girl!! Glad you had a honey BEE-worthy birthday!! :)

stateworker: No, not the beer! Kidding! Anyways, hope you still had fun playing golf despite the challenging natural elements! Hope we get to meet you tonight at the Kaimuki Grill gathering! :D

  92. HNL2LAS:

ooh still got sales today! Early bird kine too... sigh.... no mo $ already from yesterday!! bahhah ohh well....I got some good stuff so eh its okay.

  93. Shauna:

HNL2LAS: It's so hard to resist when you see good deals. I watching one of my recorded shows ("The Hills") and that episode involved a last-minute trip to Vegas...they always make those trips look so fun. Really made me want to go also!

  94. HNL2LAS:

QB: oh yah, sooo hard..... I was scared to look at the ads cuz I KNEW I wanted to go...but figured, better I get my gifts cheaper right now rather than spend way more later, haha! 'n the stuff I NEEDED of course! bahhaha. I luv to find good deals!

Ohhhh The Hills! I didn't know you watched that! I could never keep up, so I bought the first 2 seasons! Uhmm still never catch up!

If ya find a good deal, come on up! hee hee...

  95. sally:

    Good Morning Hive!

Shauna: we went to the Craft Fair last night. Always come home with just food. Wanted to get more Miso Sauce but it needs to be refrigerated and I wasn't planning to get home soon. : (

HNL2LAS: I drool at the thought of shopping deals in Vegas! I had a spree once, 4 hrs later we never left the one dept we were in. Two huge shopping bags stuffed and only $90 spent. It got to where, if the final price on the tag was more than $8, I wouldn't buy it. Hard to go shopping in HNL after that. And this was just an "end of summer season" sale. Not Black Friday.

How I miss shopping in Las Vegas.

  118. opso:

have fun at KG tonite errbody! :D

now i know how Ynaku & BF feel waiting for da dang Supah Fairy! :x

  119. teejay:

Hawaii playing well and are now moving the ball. Still 0-0.

  120. teejay:

    UH TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Moniz to Palares.

  121. teejay:

    Navy TD.

  122. teejay:

Hawaii FG. UH leads 10-7 in the second.

  123. teejay:

Navy FG. Game tied 10-10. Hawaii's defense is doing a good job tonight containing the triple option.

  124. anklebiters:

    Lots of guud fuud here....

  125. teejay:

    Navy TD. Again.

    UH TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Game tied 17-17

  126. HNL2LAS:

wow, they keep having tie scores eh?? Not bad!

  127. teejay:

    UH TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Moniz to Green!!!!!!!!!

  128. teejay:

UH leads 24-17 in the third.

  129. Wade:

I gotta hand it to the coaches today...they finally have come out looking prepared. The defense is staying very disciplined taking their man. And the offense is really exploiting Navy weaknesses. Win or lose, I can live with this kind of showing.

  130. teejay:

HNL2LASL: Looks like its only me and you. We can take over the hive since nobody's home.

  131. Wade:

It's interesting that Navy also had a lot of trouble against SMU.

  132. teejay:

wade: You wonder what Hawaii has been doing this past year. They couldn't stop the run to save their lives but now they can stop a triple option.

  133. Wade:

Hawaii is running a very balanced running and the precision of the passing attack is impressive...uh until that last pass. The way they're using Salas like a tightend on third and short is impressive.

  134. Wade:

I think the triple option is actually easier for Hawaii to defend. Everyone takes their man whether or not they have the ball. Chances are Navy won't beat them in the pass so their weak zone isn't such a liability.

  135. Wade:

How does Hawaii not go for a field goal here? Make it 2 scores????

  136. teejay:

Hawaii goes for it on fourth down and runs a stupid play.

  137. Wade:

It's these kind of decisions that are inexplicable. However, it seems like even NFL coaches make blunders like this (see New England)

  138. Wade:

By the way, with the ball on Navy's 15, I think we're in Enos' range (albeit the far end of it)

  139. Wade:

    nice hit, Soares!!!

  140. Wade:

navy needs to throw a pic!!!

  141. Wade:

think about, Navy runs a triple option which eats a lot of clock. 2 scores down would be huge!! What was Mac thinking?

  142. Wade:

    UH D stepping up!!

  143. Wade:

    Hawaii WINSSS!!!!!!!!!

  144. Wade:

Congratulations, Warriors! Enjoy the win, you really deserved this one!

  145. teejay:

    Hawaii wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    24-17

  146. Wade:

teej: you catching the end of the SC ucla game? 54 seconds left, USC up 21 - 7, SC has the ball and takes a knee. UCLA calls timeout. They have 2 left. So on the next play USC throw a bomb for a TD. They line up for the PAT and UCLA jumps over the line before the ball is snapped. Both sidelines start to walk to the center of the field...

  147. Wade:

While this is a rivalry, UCLA will not soon forget this...

  148. teejay:

wade: seems like there were a lot of close games today, both BCS (NCAA farce) and non teams.

  149. anklebiters:

    Karaoke time. :!:

  150. teejay:

ankles: Sing one song for me.

  151. Creative:

@Shauna: Thanks for the get together tonight. It was definitely fun! :)

  152. M:

    Good morning hive!

We just got home from the pah-tay! what a great fun night!

Rodney, Paula and sally was still there when we left singing away. :)

  153. sally:

Good ... what time is it? ... Hive!

We finally got kicked out. nah. Most gracious people at KG. Thank you to the Triad. So sorry I missed Ynaku IRL, I'll meet him someday yet! Creative: You must select more songs!!!

Note to self: don't let Rod choose karaoke songs LOL

  154. teejay:

    Morning all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  155. matt:

1 more win and SMU, right? keep hope alive!

  156. Shauna:

    Good morning!!

Thanks again to all those who came out last night!! It was a lot of fun and KG was buzzing! I even met a lurker last night!! :D

teejay and wade: Thanks again for the play by play. But I'm not sure what a triple option is though I've heard that phrase used in the last Warrior Beat show...

  157. M:

@Shauna, masako and I thought he was trying to hit on you.

  158. KAN:

Guuuuud morning Hive! Glad the party sounds like it was fun (how could it not be?) but like opso, I'm j I couldn't be there.

Looking forward to seeing pitchas, (esp. of NKHEA in full-mouth-open smile!)

  159. Shauna:

M: No, he actually worked in the same industry...

    KAN: Got that photo!

Almost time for tennis! Hope the weather holds. But first I get to go to breakfast! BREAKFAST!!! Real kine, too!! :D

  160. visitor:

Glad you all had fun at KG's.

Last night at the stadium was more than a game, it was a crazy event. 36,000+ standing and yelling...with the UH win over Navy. Glad I hung on to my season tickets all these years. The crowd, noise and enthusiasm reminded me of our first win over BYU. Go Bows!

  161. teejay:

UH women's VB got screwed just like every other year. The NCAA sucks the big one and I hope they suffer as individuals. They mock UH and they talk out of two sides of their mouth. Any BSC team would never have this type of suck ass placement. The NCAA would jump out of their soiled underware if Penn St was sent to Hawaii. God forbid. I hope all those on the panel come down with a severe cold loose money this year. NCAA SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  162. teejay:

This NCAA is the same that took away the UH men's VB title due to Costas and then don't do anything to USC with Reggie Bush. Can we say "somebody is sucking the big one?" NCAA needs to answer some major quetions and UH needs to start asking instead of accepting being screwed every year. Jim Donovan do something or quit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  163. teejay:

Oh hell, I'll say it I hope the VB NCAA committee rots in hell and suffers to the end. NCAA sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  164. teejay:

teejay: Staying away from the dark place and stating what is true and unsaid. The NCAA does suck.

  165. NaPueo:

Had fun last night. Sally, Paula and Rodney were the last to leave. Those who left earlier missed out on Rodney singing. Creative needs to sing more.

  166. NKHEA:

    Good morning everybody :)

Was fun as usual last night ;) :) :D :P

Shauna & KAN :x

    NKHEA..... drunk no count

  167. sally:

Creative needs to sing wayyy more! Wow! Standing ovation!

Okay, so maybe we ate too much and couldn't stand. But we would have! whoooo!

Yes Rod was singing! Did Paula slip something into his soda?

  168. sally:

ask Rod to sing this at the next party

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oaHHrNQVrg

  169. teejay:

How can you be ranked number three in the country and have to travel to play number 63? NCAA sucks and I hope they choke on their ineptness. Come back and refute my allegations. You can't which just proves the NCAA is a farce and congress needs to get rid of this money whore organization.

  170. anklebiters:

Having the lunch buffet at Willows....

  171. M:
