Living on the edge — take me with you!

July 14th, 2009 by Shauna

As you go about your routine day and you stumble upon one of these ODD stories, do you often compare how vastly different your life is from those starting new adventures, breaking records or making headlines?

Sure, you may not want to be doing exactly what those other people are doing, but haven’t you asked yourself if there’s more to life than going to work, cooking, cleaning and paying the bills?

Life is too short to not do some of the more unusual things that will probably be one of your best memories that you can share with your kids and grandkids.

Going vertical: 2 brothers live on building’s wall
Associated Press

RIO DE JANEIRO — Two brothers in Rio are living over the edge — literally: sleeping, working and eating on the side of a building 33 feet up in the air.

Twenty-seven-year-old Tiago Primo and his 20-year-old brother Gabriel spend 12 hours a day in the bed, hammock, chair and dining table they’ve attached to a bright red-and-yellow wall as part of an art exhibit in Rio’s old center.

The brothers are equipped with mountain climbing gear, and if nature calls, can scramble over to the verandah of a neighboring art gallery, where an indoor bathroom awaits.

The brothers have been hanging out wall-side since the end of May. They plan to continue the display until Aug. 20.

So how do you “live on the edge”? Do you surf in gigantic, crashing waves? Do you climb mountains or swim with sharks?

But beyond that, does living on the edge only equate with living dangerously physically? Risk-taking can come in the form of big gambling, frequent career moves or taking a chance on life in many other ways.

And where are some of your favorite places to hang out? I usually go to the same bars and restaurants for get togethers. I think it’s time for me to branch out and “live on the edge.” Anyone care to show me what I’ve been missing in life?

    FIRST!

  2. Ocean Lover:

I have NO IDEA what dis post is about..........but I's FIRST! so "no mattah to me". ;-)

    OL..............WINNAH!!!!!!!!

  3. Ocean Lover:

When I was younger....I did some stupid things - diving down to 200 feet, meeting Mr. Coors late at night and driving home after.......

Now my "living on the edge" involves leaving the grass to grow another week BEEfore I mow it. :-(

NICE CAKE PICS! That last one looks like a fancy schmancy place.........where?

OL.......................stepped away from the edge about 15 years ago...when he got married

  4. BananaFysh:

    fort!

  5. KAN:

    Fit?

  6. KAN:

Holy cats, those b-day cakes look guuuuuuuuuuuud. Happy day-after-your-birthday, QB!

I'm not a risk taker. I generally favor predictability. The two biggest risks I took in the last 20 years involved shacking up with Sweetie and changing jobs about 3 1/2 years ago. Both worked out well.

  7. KAN:

    HSIB said yesterday:

now you seem quite infatuated with kan and queenie. you
can only pick one to take on a date to tsukijis

HSIB, I am NOT going anywhere with koala. Plus, the beast's only function is to warm QB's feet while eating at (you know where) - I can't type it because it'll just start up again).

  8. KAN:

OL: fist bump on #174 yesterday. Genius!

  9. hanapaa:

Happy BEElated BEE-Day, Shauna!!!! So wat, can drink now!?!?

On topic: Too old fo da physical stuffs. Done some career moves, but not by choice. Still count, neh?

BTW, wassup wit yoa new pet? Da eucalyptus-munching marsupial from Down Undah?

  10. Scott:

Living on the edge? Showing my wife an autographed Malika picture one day beefore she was set to give birth wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done!

I like to surf when the waves are big, but only surf the medium sized waves that the big boys ignore, so it's not as cool as it sounds :(

  11. Ocean Lover:

    @ KAN...............oh "shucky darn".

MayBEE I can include YOU in an "epiphany"......keep posting. ;-)

OL...........like NKHEA says (whea da buggah stay anyway?)...."gotta go work"

  12. Ocean Lover:

Hey BS...........how you feeling dis fine morning?

And yes....showing da missus da Malika pic is pretty STEWPID.....you shoulda showed her DURING BIRTH to help "speed things along". ;-)

    OL................"out"

  13. EMM386:

Does riding a motorcycle count? I don't think it's that bad, but my mom freaks out every time the news has a story about a motorcyclist in my area that died in an accident and calls my cell to make sure it's not me.

  14. NKHEA:

    Morning everyone :)

Me BEE to old to do crazy stuffs now days :l BEEfore butt not now ;)

    I BEE hea OL :D

NKHEA...goin work now, like OL said

  15. M:

    Good morning PEEPS!

I risk my life everyday when I get behind the wheel of my truck and drive on the roads full with lolo drivers.....

  16. Kage:

    Good Morning All!

I have never been one to take risks.
When we were kids, I was always the conscious of the group. The one always saying whatever we were doing was not good....hahaha.

Those cakes looked ONO. Did it taste as good as is looked?

  17. Shauna:

    Good morning!!! :D

  18. che:

    Good morning.

Shauna where are those cakes from?

Like Kage, I tend to be the voice of reason among my elementary school friends. I drink the least and I'm probably the most conservative.

I don't really like change but can adapt to it. I do step out of the box on occassion. One of the unusual things (not that unusual) that I did was go tandem sky diving once. The free fall is fantastic but I wouldn't do it again.

  19. opso:

    g'morning! :D

    Don opso is still alive!
taking risks and loosing energy ;) but still alive! :P

Queenie - hope you had a wonderful birthday! :D
and yeah.....you should try and take some BEEg risks sometimes.
just go for it! and eat that medium-rarewell steak! ZOMG!

  20. Eli:

    Good Morning

I'm just stuck in the same routine. I tell myself that I need to do more exciting things but it never happens. The most recent exciting thing I did was the Haleakala atv tour last summer. We were going to do the bike tour but they don't start at the top so we decided not to do it. It would be more fun to start at the top of Haleakala.

    Those cakes look delicious. :D

  21. honda si boy:

whoa, those are some fine looking cakes! doko e kaimashita ka? the first two kinda look like they're from saint germaines or satura cakes or something...the last one from a restaurant! mmmmmm. looks almost as scrumptious as the vanilla and coffee ice cream from stage! :) haha!

che: what ski dive companhy did you go to? i went on sky dive hawaii (i think? haha!) and that was a lot of fun! barring cost, i'd do it again! but since it's expensive and i'd rather spend my money on something new, i wanna try diving with sharks. the ones on north shore seem cool, but i wanna do the style they show on tv in the caribbean, where you're just on the reef with the sharks swimming around you...

opso: better watch your back in case a koala assassin comes after you!!! hahaha!

sally: hey, (regarding yesterday's post) where's all of our tex's malasadas?!?!?! :D

ynaku: speaking of rain, it's pouring in manoa! sounds like hilo on the totan roof! how is it in hilo? did the sun stay out?

  22. jaydee:

The only thing I did that could even be cosidered "risk-taking" is when I hiked up to Half-Dome in Yosemite with a couple of friends of mine.

We were thinking about taking on Mt. Whitney later this year but I don't think the other guys are in any shape to make that trek. What a rush when you finally get to the peak.....awesome!

  23. anklebiters:

Hey Sara, how are you today :?:

Repaired my tire....they found TWO leaks :!:

Here's my partial list of 'on the edge' living:

    1) Cruising along at 135+mph on the interstate late at night and hope that you're not over driving your highlights.....in case a critter decides to run across your lane and become instant roadkill, taking you along with it.

    2) A caravan of "cars" just leap frogging each other at 100+ and then seeing an 18 wheeler in your lane as you crest a hill YIKES  Thank goodness for very good brakes :!:

    3) Meeting GF for the first time....that is living on the edge and a whole lot of faith.....a bottomless ravine on all sides, the depth of the Grand Canyon. No amount of shoveling will dig you out if things go wrong.

    4) Golfing in the desert....if my drives were decent I'd never see/feel the prick of a jumping cholla cactus. The first instinct when one "jumps" out at you as you're looking for your ball and impales you is to swat it off with your hand....bad move...now it's stuck to your hands too :!: Merely pulling them off one-by-one will result in the barbed spines breaking off under your skin. Then there's the rattle and Dback snakes to contend with *sigh*. Why can't they have an indoor golf course :?:

  24. Jack:

    8)

  25. Scott:

Ankles, I never considered golfing "living on the edge" until I read your description. Ha!

  26. M:

jaydee, did you go up Half Dome using the cables? I went years ago and that was a hard climb to the top even with the cables, so steep and slippery.

  27. honda si boy:

ankle: oh, but they DO have indoor golf...it's called mini golf, or putt putt golf... :D heehee, just kidding!

  28. jaydee:

    M:
Yeah, I used the cables. I had real good shoes so the ascent and descent was a breeze. Also, it helps to use the gloves (there's about a hundred used ones at the base). They come in handy when you "repel" down.

  29. che:

    honda si boy,

I did that tandem thing about 11 or 12 years ago. I don't remember the company. The reason why we did it was that someone I used to work with at the bank was a weekend pilot for the company. He got us a discounted rate but you're right it was expensive (even after the discount)and you have to sign your life away. We went one day after the one of the other companies plan crashed.

  30. che:

    HSIB,

The sharks sound fun but I would also want to try those zip lines. I know Kauai has one and I just saw one on Maui somewhere on TV yesterday.

  31. BananaFysh:

Hm, I dunno if I did anything particularly risky or "on the edge."

Does paintball count? ;) It's actually very safe, if you use the proper equipment.

  32. BananaFysh:

@che -- I saw that zip line thing on the news last night!

They featured the one in Upcountry Maui. There's also one in Kapalua too.

I'll let you know how it is. ;)

  33. che:

    BananaFysh,

Yes paintball is daring. I played once in my younger days and it hurts!!! I can't imagine what it would feel like to get shot in the back or side of the head or in groin area. I did get shot in the face but I had a full shield in the front.

  34. Shauna:

Gosh it's so busy to catch up after a three-day weekend...

I totally need to address some of these interesting comments in a bit. But I gotta help moderate that Warrior Beat show again.

But I do want to throw out our BEEg July party plan!! I'm tentatively looking at WEDNESDAY, JULY 29 (we could go July 30 if more people prefer that day) from 7-10 p.m. I'll see if we can get the private room at Shokudo. Let me know if you're in! We'll celebrate all the July baBEEs! :)

  35. Scott:

We did the north shore shark adventures 2 1/2 years ago. Aside from everybody puking, it was incredible. We actually had to leave early because people were vomiting left and right. It was during a winter swell, and afternoon, so the seas were not friendly that day.

  36. anklebiters:

    Shauna:

Those BD cakes....they can't hold a candle to the razzleberry pie

  37. M:

Shauna, masako and I are in for da pah-tay. Either night will work for us.

  38. BananaFysh:

@che -- Oh, I played paintball for years, and got hit all over my body. After the mandatory goggles, the main protection gotta BEE for the guebs. ;)

For me, the most painful places were in the love handles, and on the top of the head. Oh even worse if the ball doesn't break and just bounces off! Those hurt like a mofo!

Once I took 3 rapid fire shots to the head -- right at the hairline just above the goggles. OMG, the balls didn't break on those shots either! It was just BAM-BAM-BAM right on the same spot! I was seeing stars after that one!

Hm, that could kinda explain why I am the way I am today...

  39. theDman:

Nothing too exotic in my past.

The only consistent stupid thing we would do, is try to body-surf Hapuna beach on the BI, during the winter.

Nice long cove beach, winter swells come in, anywhere from 3 to 5 feet (measuring the old style) and the whole wave closes out all at once across the entire beach. Nowhere to go but straight down and eat sand. Time after time we'd go out to try to catch the next one. Nothing but feet and fins going over the falls.

    Mindless fun.

  40. Kage:

@che - ask Brudda Lance at WWD about the zip line. He wrote blog entry about it once. He really enjoyed it.

Shauna- I no can make the party in July. I will be off island at the time.

  41. HNL2LAS:

    Ohhhh early morning post!

Sally: Thanks for the Tex's malassada! Just what I needed! hehe... after going back to sleep, that was a great "smell" to wake up to! hee hee....

  42. KAN:

HNL2LAS - I hope the rest of your day is/was better than the start of your day! It's worst when there's an emergency before I'm fully conscious (i.e., before I've had caffeine) - I can't focus and I can't remember what I need to remember.

  43. Ocean Lover:

Have any of you jumped in the TOILET BOWL? The one on the left side of Hanauma Bay? Once I went with my cousin and we jumped in and the receding wave EMPTIED the "bowl". The bottom was all exposed and we had never seen that happen BEEfore. We knew a BEEg wave was gonna come in and I thought "I'm gonna get TRAPPED under the ledge" and both of us TRIED to climb out but we couldn't BEEcause it was so slippery.

When the TSUNAMI came, I just took a deep breath and said a prayer................and that TSUNAMI spat us out of the "bowl" and we ended about 30 feet INLAND OF THE BOWL!!!!!

For those of you who've jumped into the TOILET BOWL.......you'll know what I'm talking about. For those of you who DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT (QUEENIE)..........."pua ting" you sheltered folks!

OL....................so old he can only reminisce

  44. Shauna:

Mmm, eating that chocolate cake now. It was from Satura Cakes in Ward. Darn expensive, but I'm worth it, right

HNL2LAS: Ironically you notice the chocolateless nuts on 'em? And sorry to hear about your garbage story this morning. Don't worry, I was snorting and laughing WITH you!! ;)

Kage: I'm with you, as you can obviously tell, about not BEEing the most adventurous in my group. I think I'm a scaredy cat! ;)

I have never been one to take risks.
When we were kids, I was always the conscious of the group. The one always saying whatever we were doing was not good....hahaha.

  45. Shauna:

EMM386: Yes, motorcycles count!! When my dad had one and packed me, on some side roads, I literally thought I was going to die as we lurched forward or made a turn. Why does closing one's eyes help? Wouldn't it BEE better to see if you're going to hit the pavement?

M: I hear ya on the stupid drivers. That's where most accidents occur!

I risk my life everyday when I get behind the wheel of my truck and drive on the roads full with lolo drivers.....

  46. Shauna:

Ocean Lover: Oh yeah, congrats on first! You've done it so often that you don't even gloat anymore! And oh no, is this what you look forward to in "old age"? ;)

Now my "living on the edge" involves leaving the grass to grow another week BEEfore I mow it. :-(

NKHEA: OK, what kind of crazy stuff did you do??

  47. honda si boy:

che and BF: BL on WWD posted a blog and a bunch of pics on the zip line thing that he took his mom on. great pics and excellent writing of his thoughts (as usual!).

scott: i gotta try that shark thing. that's the most fun thing on a small boat--the anticipation of the huge swell and seeing how "hard" the boat's gonna hit the next incoming swell depending on how fast you're gunning the dual yamaha outboards! :P

  48. honda si boy:

OL: oh man, that story on the toilet bowl sounds awesome! well kinda scary living in that exact moment, but after everything worked out, one of those, "dang! that's a story i'm gonna remember for the rest of my life" times. i'll have to check out what the toilet bowl is the next time i'm up at the north shore...

  49. RONW:

    "ride safe"

  50. RONW:

    "ride safe" # 46

  51. Shauna:

KAN: Shacking up with Sweetie!! How long were you together BEEfore you made that BEEg decision? So as a non-risk taker, do you like to hang out with similar folks?

hanapaa: Yes, career moves not by choice still count. Theoretically you could always say no... And haha, not sure how to answer the other part of your comment. Think he's infatuated with me!

BTW, wassup wit yoa new pet? Da eucalyptus-munching marsupial from Down Undah?

  52. honda si boy:

oops, not north shore, haunama bay!

  53. Ocean Lover:

Hahahahahahhahaha........Honda! I was gonna say "Eh brah, your GPS stay malfunctioning".

    Nice save....BEEfore I corrected you. ;-)

    OL................Honda's GPS working.....not working.....working.....not working

  54. Shauna:

RONW: Hi there! It's BEEn a while since we've heard from you! Um, are you telling me to ride safe??

honda si boy: Not to make stereotypical-type comments but I somehow just cannot see you swimming with sharks!!! I can't even picture you swimming!!

Ocean Lover: Now just how would you know that I wouldn't know about this so-called Toilet Bowl?? I'm trying to picture how this works... So does your son have the same adventurous spirit you had back in the day? ;)

theDman: Exotic or exciting? ;) I'm also trying to picture those swells you mentioned... As you can tell, I'm not too familiar with surf. Sigh... I do like to hang out on the beach and watch the surfers though. Where is a good spot to do that?

BananaFysh: No comment on the BAM-BAM-BAM balls hitting your head!!

  55. Ocean Lover:

@ Queenie - "Ocean Lover: Now just how would you know that I wouldn't know about this so-called Toilet Bowl??"

    Ahhh.........there's NO "SECRET BUSH" nearby?

I'm trying to picture how this works... So does your son have the same adventurous spirit you had back in the day? ;)

He's on a 50-mile hike with the Boy Scouts at this moment, hiking 12-15 miles/day for 5 days, sleeping in a tent and making doo in a bucket if at all so I BEElieve "yes, he has the adventurous spirit" in him.

OL....................Queenie doesn't know where the TOILET BOWL bee :-(

  56. anklebiters:

Fresh fish and steaks tonight for dinner :!:

Daughter/BF returned from Mexico with fresh fish....I don't know one fish from another...he's going to grill them up and we are going to have a feast :!: And I'm not a fish person.

Brother Lance - I think the steaks been aged for a few days

  57. HNL2LAS:

Thanks KAN! It is much better. Ate some leftover pizza and had ice cream, hehe all guud now!

QB: I didn't notice the chocolate less nuts until you mentioned it! bahhaha... all the cakes still looked sooo ono, just take off the nuts and oh YAH! hee hee...
You were laughing with me huh?? When I woke up the 2nd time?? Cuz I sure as heck wasn't laughing after that happened this morning! hehe... now.. I'm thinking-da 'opala guys were probably laughing their ashes off at me..."oooh look dat girl..... running down the driveway.... for nuttin...and you seen her FACE when we just kept on going?? BAHHAHA".....uhmm not to mention, with my luck they'd be lurkers/readers and now know where I live... geeeez... *sigh*...... hehe

  58. anklebiters:

    OL:

You almost ended up in the TOILET and flushed out like the other 'waste' :!: That sounded like fun, can you do it again :?:  I'd rather be a sheltered pua 'ting than fish food

I wonder if someone will do that at the Blow Hole :?:

  59. honda si boy:

shauna: whachu talkin' about?!?!? i love the water and anything to do with it! swimming, body boarding, fishing, spear diving...all fun!

OL: i know, i re-read your comment and for some reason, the first time i thought it said waimea bay...and then i realized, waaaait, haunama bay...which is a little past hawaii kai!!! whoopsie! :P

  60. Shauna:

    HNL2LAS: Need a drink tonight? ;)

anklebiters: Are you sure that fish is safe?? Oh heck, risk it! It's today's theme! I love cooked fish!! :D And haha, I can picture OL BEEing tossed out with the other waste! And I agree, I don't want to BEE fish food either!!

  61. BananaFysh:

    @Shauna --

No comment on the BAM-BAM-BAM balls hitting your head!!

I think that was comment enough. grrrr

But I thought you were the expert on that, so why not comment?

  62. Shauna:

honda si boy: Still can't BEElieve it! Plus, you're white as a ... And isn't the spelling Hanauma???

  63. opso:

hsib - no worries.....i'm wearing my stab-proof vest and armed with a tactical shotgun for protection. ;)
i no like "take a risk" and catch rabies or sumptin from dat varmit.

HNL2LAS - you're friggin hilarious!! always late........but friggin hilarious!
but this time.......you were actually EARLY! one day early! bwahahaha!

  64. koala:

ai herd sumone tawking abaout me 2day! ;o)

awwww, no partee at tsukijis? =~(

    me sooo much bommmed!! whaaaaaaa!!!!

  65. Brother Love:

shauna those were some nice looking cakes. as for the livin on the edge stuff,, yah i can think of a few things when i was younger but nowadays i am more interested in living and not getting hurt lol. i guess the most current "livin on da edge" thing i did was when i helped my cousin break in that horse he bought. it took a couple of weekends and i got thrown off right into the wall of a stable, it hurt and i took a lil while to get up but i walked away just w/ a couple of bruises lol..

  66. snow:

    good afternoon HIVE!

but, opso... you're laughing WITH HNL2LAS, right? ;)

HNL2LAS - just the sound of the garbage truck gives me anxiety because of the many times we've forgotten to take out the trash and i've had to run outside to try and beat the truck! too bad you were a day early, though... might as well leave the can curbside already to make sure, eh?! maybe today is your green waste day?

  67. Ocean Lover:

OMG! Its that "Deranged Australian Marsupial" (DAM)

OPSO, please shoot that DAM critter as its giving me BROKEN BRAIN!

OL..................worse den "pidgin" dat DAM varmint

  68. Ynaku:

  81. Ocean Lover:

honda si boy: I saw this shark story...so go for it!!

Study suggests shark-diving tours off Oahu are safe
    Associated Press

HONOLULU — A University of Hawaii study suggests that shark-diving tours off Oahu have not resulted in more danger to humans.
The report also suggests that the two shark tours that operate along Oahu’s North Shore are not causing harm to shark habitat.
The study’s authors reviewed tour boat logbooks and tested boat captains on identifying sharks that congregate around the cages that hold tourists who pay to see the animals up close.
They concluded that while some shark species appear to be growing in numbers and others are declining, the tours were causing no change in the overall shark population.
They also determined that the type of sharks attracted to the cages rarely bite people.
The study was published in the journal Environmental Conservation.

  98. Shauna:

Brother Love: Haha, it's funny how our definition of "living on the edge" changes over time! Though I don't think getting thrown off a horse at any age is good!

che: Can't BEElieve you went skydiving!! The one "brave" thing I wouldn't mind doing is those hot-air balloon rides. Though with my luck the balloon will probably fail over the water just when it's feeding time for some sharks! :(

  99. Shauna:

snow and opso: HNL2LAS is soooo funny!!!

HNL2LAS: How come you're the one to take out the trash anyway???

  100. Shauna:

    Jack: 8)

  101. KAN:

Oh dear . . . I see we're in for another night of low koala-tee humor.

KAN . . . goin' clean out da 'fridge - housecleaning cuz muddah-out-law coming to stay with us dis weekend.

  102. KAN:

OL - I remember da toilet bowl from hanabata days. That was guuuud fun, even when I skinned my knee on the rocks. I'd be too chicken to do it now. I also remember the green olivene sand from around the bowl.

  103. Shauna:

anklebiters: Yeah, you make golf sound sooooo dangerous!

Scott: Did you really show that picture of Malika during that time?!? Too funny!

M: Glad you and Masako will BEE able to make the party! :D

  104. Shauna:

    KAN: Muddah-out-law? Haha!!

Sally: MayBEE you can keep our little furball in line when you log on later tonight! BTW, if one of our former honeyBEES (who lives on the Mainland) can make the party, she is definitely looking forward to meeting you!

  105. Scott:

    Yes, Shauna. Yes I did.

I just ventured to Long's to buy some medicine. I forgot how soothing pepto bismal is. mmmmmmm. Out of work today and I got to see how my dogs spend their day when I'm at work.
They do nothing all day long!

  106. HNL2LAS:

I don't normally have to take out the trash. I saw it outside after I heard the opala truck.

  107. BananaFysh:

If HNL2LAS doesn't take out the papers and the trash, then she won't get no spendin' cash. ;)

Now BEE a dear, and bring in the dog and put out the cat.

  108. BananaFysh:

Don't talk back now! haha!

  109. Ocean Lover:

    @ KAN -

"I remember da toilet bowl from hanabata days. That was guuuud fun, even when I skinned my knee on the rocks. I'd be too chicken to do it now. I also remember the green olivene sand from around the bowl.

BINGO! You know what I's talking bout.........."too bad so sad" Queenie has NO CLUE.

OL...............sad dat Queenie neva "live on da edge"

  110. NKHEA:

Eh Ynaku no BEE using me for excuse :x bumby HopAlong goin BEE mad at me 8O

NKHEA...gatta go time for da BEEa's and pupu's

  111. EMM386:

    @Shauna:

Motorcycles more dangerous than cars? Yes. That much so? I don't think so. I had lots of close calls in cars, but can only recall 2 on the bike. I think you're more cautious and aware on the bike. Of course, not having a radio, not being able to eat while driving, etc. = less distractions = more awareness. As far as closing your eyes, it only works 'cause you weren't the driver. If he closed his eyes, you'd be plenty scared.

  112. Ynaku:

NKHEA, sorry bruddah  Hope I can drink beea with you. Gatta go pahty tonight. Wife cousin from Mainland. I went fry some fish and steamed one Uhu. Still gotta go heat up da oil laters.

  113. HNL2LAS:

BF: HELLO? No talk back? Whatevers!

  114. Ynaku:

Oh dang, koala survived :? He more worse den Bin Laden.

  115. teejay:

KAN: Do you remember that small hole along the right side of the channel at the "toilet bowl"? I watched people drop down the hole and swim out to the channel. I finally had the cajones to do that and it was spooky. I wouldn't let my son do that cuz if you get stuck you are dead.

  116. HNL2LAS:

BF: put out the dog and bring in the cat? bhahha... ohhh man.... your poor wife... you tell her that too?? hehe...

  117. acuradriver02:

    Shauna~

catching up on some work tonite, but had to take a little break...for like an hour :-) I hope you had a nice birthday yesterday. Those cakes look oishi. Did you eat all of them???

Regarding your hot air balloon ride...do they do that here in Hawaii?? If I'm not mistaken, they generally do that over open flat land, to make landing easier. I surprised my wife with a hot air balloon ride awhile back, in Napa Valley. One of the best experiences of my life. Our pilot was so good, he landed right on the back of the pickup truck that was there to shuttle the balloon back to wherever they store it. And they feed you breakfast afterwards, with champagne and everything.

  118. KAN:

Trust BF to yakkity yak!

Teejay: I don't remember the other small hole. Of course, it's been at least 15 years since I was at the toilet bowl, so that's not surprising I don't remember it.

  119. KAN:

    @ HNL2LAS (just in case):

MMMMMMM....great fish and steaks and baked potato with CHEESE, rice mixed with carrots, broccoli and fresh corn!!!! The fish was marinated...sort reminds of me Vingadosh. And banana cream pie for desert. I am stuffed.

  121. BananaFysh:

I heard a "whooshing" noise earlier.

Oh, that was the sound of a reference flying over HNL2LAS's head!
    haha!!

Thank you for explaining, KAN. ;)

  122. anklebiters:

Speaking of hot air balloons...New Mexico has a great hot air Balloon Festival every year in Albuquerque....it's a neat show with all sorts of colored balloons and cartoon-like shaped ones too. If you're up here in October, it's an 8 hr drive there...well worth it.

  123. anklebiters:

    HNL2LAS:

Between cars and garbage cans....you really don't need anymore bad luck :!:

  124. BananaFysh:

@OL -- If you told Queenie you were going to take her to "Toilet Bowl" she would bring rubber gloves, a brush, and Lysol bowl cleaner.

I think Queenie might make a beach towel out of Clorox Wipes!

  158. Masako:

Ohhh living on the edge....thats my kind of topic. I did lots of crazy things in my younger years. Partying so much that I am now allergic to alcohol...what a bummer. I did a zipline and mountain climbling/rapelling on the mainland. To heal when I got divorced I went on a retreat that we swam with wild dolphins everyday for a week. That was pretty wild considering that I am not a strong swimmer and we were swimming in the middle of Kealakekua bay. Oh yeah as a kid I went to that Toilet Bowl place and used to jump into it. I went on a glider with M when we first met and I thought I was going to die. While riding a mule to Kaulapapa I thought I was going over the edge....I literally screamed the whole way down and the guide had to ride behind me and calm me down. When I travel I like to do crazy things, eat weird things..

  159. Masako:

Oh another crazy thing I do is I let M talk me into going on roller coasters with them. I get soooo scared and sick afterward but I have so much fun.

  160. opso:

BF - hah! yeah.....Queenie must get one BEEg stash in her condo.

jalike how Elaine in Seinfeld kept her stash of "sponges".
    "hmm......is he sponge-worthy?" haha!

  161. opso:

BF - y'know.......if you, and anybody else that really likes playing Mafia Wars......garans ball barans you folks would dig Grand Theft Auto.

pretty much the same RPG premise. missions, hits, collecting, racing, maintaining health, etc. and a WHOLE lot more! but with hands on control and visual to watch your handiwork while you whack your adversaries. heh

you should try it. but i don't think your wife would appreciate it cause you going BEE glued to your pc for days on end. haha!

  162. M:

    Good night all!

  163. BananaFysh:

@Masako -- Wow, you did all kine crazy stuff, eh? Cool!

So, what is the weirdest thing you ever ate? Burfalo wings? ;)

  164. BananaFysh:

    Good night M!

  165. BananaFysh:

@opso -- Yeah, I think I would like GTA. I was planning on picking up GTA for the DS.

Still waiting for it to BEE released for the Wii. Hm, I wonder if you can swing the Wiimote like a bat to knock people out? ;)

If I pick up a PS3 I'd get GTA for that instead though. ;)

  166. sally:

    Hullo HoneyBeez and BeeBeeDeez!

Late start tonite, got some crisis w/ a sick friend and all kine drama going on and den had to go Long's for Rx refill den Safeway for some nourishment.

@HsiB: You snooze you looze. I opened the Tex's Malasadas when I came home Sun nite. Gave the last one to HNL2LAS this morning to soothe her frantic soul w/ da rubbish man drama.

@HNL2LAS: You're very welcome. Was ono yah?

@QB: what party? what furball? You gotta remember I'm pretty new here and not quite up to speed.

@Koala: Trying hard to unnastand you but you make my vertigo worser. LOL I have a friend used to email me like that and she had the same effect. My eyes get all kookalated.

    Going bocha now. BRB.

Oh yah, my living on da edge is when I go to Longs w/ no makeup and boro clothes and rubber slippas hoping I don't run into anyone I know. Naturally I always do, and it's usually some old friend I neva see since high school that still skinny and pretty. Worse yet, they always say "OMG you still look the same!" WWD? oops, wrong house.

  167. sally:

um, did everybody go sleep or something? I went bocha, I no offend.

  168. Shauna:

sally: Every so often a bunch of us blog hosts (Rod, Lance and I make up The Triad) like to plan get togethers. I was thinking of doing one at the end of July. Two out-of-towners may BEE here the same week. This is your chance to meet everyone in real life and have your photo taken to BEE exposed!! I like to call koala a fur ball!!

BananaFysh/opso: One of my birthday gifts were two bags of high-end handiwipes!!! ;)

  169. Ukuhead:

Teejay/Kan: Question. Koolau T-1 koa or Pono special pikake inlay 500???

  170. sally:

@Shauna: ooooh, partee! I'm flattered. Maybe I can lose 20lbs in the next week and a half? LOL shoulda told me before I pigged at camp.

  171. Shauna:

sally: Don't worry about it! Just burn it off laughing with the BBDs!! :)

    Ukuhead: Where have you BEEn????

  172. BananaFysh:

    Hello sally & Queenie!

    @sally -- (Belated) Welcome to O&E! :D

    @Shauna -- Oooh, designer Handi-wipes? Sassy!

  173. sally:

@Masako, ho, you get some stuff yah? Wow, I cannot even ride Skyline at the 50th State Fair and you do all that. When the kids were little, I used to payola my friend to take my daughter on the ferris wheel.

    Sally>>> bowing at Masako's feet

    You da girl!

  174. sally:

@BananaFysh... aw gee, thankyew. Are you a nice BBD or a naughty BBD?

  175. BananaFysh:

    @sally -- Why, I'm the nicest> BBD!! :D

Hey! Shauna! Stop that snorting!! :x

snow! HNL2LAS! KAN! I can hear you all laughing! Stop it! :x

  176. sally:

Gotta cut the night short, Hive. My eyeballs gonna slam shut. Dangit that Big Island jet lag.

Keiki overload. Good thing camp is only once a year. LOL

    G'nite. BeeHave you all.

  177. sally:

@BFysh: why am I having a hard time BeeLeeving you?

    Oyasumi!

  178. opso:

hi sally! look away! look away! BF will forever give you broken brain!

Queenie - what da heck is "high end wipes"? :? only for stuff that are "wipes worthy"? haha!

BF - yeah.....i think better to get GTA on either Xbox, PS3 or pc. and i doubt it they will make it for the wii. mo better on da BEEg screen. can really see da blood splatter. haha!

there's GTA IV: Chinatown Wars for DS. which is additional stories/missions on top of GTA IV. but if i were you.....i would get GTA San Andreas first. imho......that's the best of the GTA series.
the graphics in GTA IV is killer but the game play in San Andreas is way better. the map is huuuge, get choke more stuff to do and vehicles, bikes, planes, helicopters, boats, etc. to operatae.

but i think San Andreas is only on xbox, ps2 and pc.

  179. opso:

    g'nite sally!

  180. Shauna:

Woo-hoo! Just beat ALL the BEES in BJ! Now I can go bed feeling on top!! :D :D :D :D

  181. BananaFysh:

    good night sally!

heeeeey, what is this "broken brain" that you all speak of?

    hehe

Supposedly GTA is coming out for the Wii. But yeah, somehow I doubt it'll BEE any good. I'd rather have one of the other versions but I don't have a PS3 or 360. :(

I read the DS version is pretty good -- they make good use of the touchscreen from what I hear....

  182. Ukuhead:

Looking for a birthday present

  183. opso:

just get the pc version. that's what i play on. i really got used to using the mouse and keyboard for gaming. so when i play on consoles.......i suck!

just that GTA IV demands a lot of resources. that's why i bought my new gaming rig. my old comp's video card was inadequate. :(

unless you have a really old or basic pc......i think San Andreas would work okay enough. mayBEE just gotta tweak some video settings.
plus San Andreas must BEE really cheap now.

  184. Shauna:

Ukuhead: When is your birthday? Is it also in July??

  185. BananaFysh:

@opso -- I gotta replace my pc. That thing is on it's last legs. After my hard drive crashed, it hasn't been the same. :(

I'm gonna go mac with the next machine though. I can dual boot windows and OSX so I'll probably pick up GTA then.

Or mayBEE I can run San Andreas on my netbook? hmmmmmm
    ;)

  186. Ukuhead:

    Um no. May
