Ring in Fourth of July!

July 3rd, 2009 by Shauna

Hope everyone enjoys their long holiday weekend!

Here’s some fun little findings from a survey that shows people would rather do anything else than give up their cell phones...

Survey: People hate to give up their phone
UPI

NEW YORK — Most Americans would rather give up alcohol for a week than give up their cell phone for the same time period, a survey conducted for Best Buy indicated.

Nearly 60 percent of respondents said they'd rather abstain from drinking rather than put away their cell phones for a week, results released Tuesday of the survey by GFK Roper showed. Respondents also said they'd rather give up television for a week, 33.1 percent; survive on bread and water, 11.5 percent; even have their teeth drilled by a dentist, 14.5 percent, than do without their mobile phone.

The weekly survey of 1,000 adults for the big-box retailer also indicated consumers age 65-plus don't darken a mobile phone retailer's door — 62.1 percent said they never shopped for a mobile phone.

Thirty-seven percent said respondents said they text because they want to avoid long or tough conversations, while another 27.2 percent said they just don't like phone conversations.

The biggest, baddest behavior involving a cell phone by far — 51.4 percent — reading a text while driving. About a quarter of the respondents said they secretly read text messages of their significant others or their children.

-----

How about you? Can you live without your phone? If not, what would you rather give up other than your cell?

What do you mostly use your cell phone for? Calls? Text messages? E-mail? Internet? Music?

What ODD phone behaviors or etiquette have you seen? Any ODD ringtones?

Great picture of the Hive and some of it's prominent members!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Kage:

    Good Morning All!

Woke up late today. Love the holiday day off.

Giving up alcohol would be easier than the cell phone for me. I lucky if I drink it more than three times a month.

    Nice picture.

  13. Ocean Lover:

So whatchu fellas tink? The Dork Knight is a FUGITIVE? Wonder why he's HIDING? Same thing for Aunty Paula.....she did something BAD?

    I gotta check my rice.

  15. teejay:

  16. Kage:

Missing my delivery of the HA this morning. I wonder if my carrier thinks that today is a holiday for them too. I already called it in. Hope I get my paper today. Last time they delivered it the next day. Why I want my news the day after????

Just finished my eggs, bacon and cheese wrap. Love the bacon....

  17. Ocean Lover:

DAMMIT! Oh....sorry for the early morning "French".

  18. Kage:

First time I met them all, so I dunno if they hiding out or sumting.
I was just thinking that I shoulda tried hiding a bit. I'M OUTTED!

  19. teejay:

Kage: Just call Shauna and she'll take care of your paper delivery problems. I don't show my face on this blog so I can see where the "Dork Knight" is coming from.

OL: You put mushrooms in your gravy?

  20. Ocean Lover:

Kage......you sat next to Aunty Paula....did she act SUSPICIOUS?

Was she looking over her shoulder constantly? Did she have sweaty palms? Did her nose grow when you talked with her?

Watch for the subtle and not so subtle signs.........

OL............rice BEE pau.....gotta fluff um up

  21. Ocean Lover:

Teejay........yeah, I had 2 BEEg mushrooms in the bin....the kind you stuff. Gonna cut um up and put in my gravy. And to make INSTANT GRAVY palatable, I'm using a can of beef broth.

    OL.................time to fluff da rice

  22. Kage:

Nothing suspicious observed from Aunty Paula. She seemed nice and polite. I did not get any crazy vibes from her.....

Dork Knight on the other hand... nahnahnah. Everyone was great.

I just gotta watch what I write in the blogs now BEEcause get one face to the name now....

  23. teejay:

Great tip with the beef broth. I hope you don't use the low sodium. If you going to eat loco moco you might as well go for taste and not low cal/low salt.

  24. Ocean Lover:

Kage..........Aunty Paula BEE the nicest person around. Dunno how that cretin Uncle Rodney got so lucky with her......I KEED I KEED! ;-)

So I'm getting excited thinking of my BEEg loco moco breakfast......and look at the time. Its not even 7 a.m.!

    I gotta SLOW DOWNNNNNNNN...............

OL..................gotta kill an hour and watch t.v.

  25. hanapaa:

@ OL: Ova easy, puleez. No foget da kimchee side! Oh, and need ketchup (catsup?sic?).

  26. Ocean Lover:

Hey Teejay.........whatchu tink I go to Da Teenager's room and yell at him "WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Think he'll say "Good Morning Dad?" :-)

    Yeah.....I don't think so either. ;-)

OL.................this waking up early is a curse :-(

  27. Ocean Lover:

    Hanapaa...........KETCHUP? (OL faints)

    No offense....but that's GROSS.

Whatchu do with that....mix um with the gravy? You making beef stew!

    Hahahahahahahahaha...........

    OL............to each his own

  28. Kage:

Kayden. I gotta get my morning started.
    Have a great day everyone.

OL-enjoy the loco moco. I jealous small kine.

    teejay - enjoy your breakfast.

BEEzy day planned for the day off. Enjoy!

  29. Kage:

hanapaa - Enjoy your day too.

OL- ketchup is my secret ingredient in plenty dishes...

  30. che:

    OL, first again.

Shauna, although you probably look good in pink outside the gym, there is something wrong working out in all pink (gloves included). :D

Had to cut my workout shorter (already short). Normally the 10 minutes lifting, 10 minutes cardio then 10 minutes shower. Since I was short of time I cut out the shower. Had softball practice at 7:00. Practice was 15 minutes of stretching and warm up throws, 15 minutes of intense batting practice followed by 2 or 3 hours of cooling down. Never under estimate the importance of cooling down after a workout.

I could go without my cell phone. I still have one friend who doesn't own a cell phone. My cell phone is just a phone. I rarely text and I don't have internet connection. The main problem would be getting everyone to call the land lines. Back to my cell phoneless friend, sometimes when we go out, his wife calls my cell phone to call him and sometimes my friend calls me to get his wife cell phone number.

All you lucky people with the dayoff, have a good one.

  31. hanapaa:

@ OL: Braddah, gotta get my veggies whea I can! Dunno Whea I picked up the ketchup ting. Nobody else in my family puts it on everyting.

@ Kage: Ahhhh, a man aftah my own heart! Ketchup rules! Have a good one too!

  32. teejay:

che: I'm with you. Even though I just bought an iPhone I could go without my phone for a week as long as I could access my voicemail. My son is the only reason I have my phone. I need to know where he is to pick him up and just to talk to him when he's not here.

Just finished my kalbi sauce and now I need to marinate.

  33. teejay:

OL: I figure your fine cooking will wake your son up with the delicious aroma wafting (huh?) through the morning air. Yeah right. My son is like that too and only difference is he's still young enough that if he gives me grief I just tickle him till he gives up.

  34. Ocean Lover:

Teejay..........Da Teenager is GROUCHY in da morning. I imagine kinda like Queenie. ;-)

    Okay.....I'm gonna start breakfast.

Good day to everyone and take a moment to remember the troops.

    OL..............time to get BEEzy

  35. Shauna:

Morning! OK back to bed! ;)

  36. Brother Love:

nice pic gang looks like everybody was having fun..

fourth of july holiday is the signal to me that football season is coming soon lol. hopefully i will be able to catch some games and not be scheduled to work every weekend cuz it happened last yr and that sucked..

back on topic, i gotta have my cellphone i am not one to text or play gms on it but i do use the internet oh and phone calls so i definitely need it. what i would give up for it would be breakfast or lunch, or if it gotta be other than meals i guess i would have to say, i could give up my hockey card collection (except for all of the wayne gretzky stuff of course). that would be asking a lot though, no way am i thinking of giving up honey bees lol shoot i would go back to the days of a pager before i do that..

  37. HNL2LAS:

hanapaa: no worries.. you got another ketchup lover here..... hehe I like it on loco moco sometimes too... bahhaaha..... I think I know where I got my ketchup love from though, my grandpa used it a lot too...

  38. HNL2LAS:

On topic? I had no cell phone for over a month!! It was haaaaard, but I think I could handle a week, after all that hehe. As long as I got a land line and the comp? I BEE okay....

  39. M:

    Good Morning Hive!

That was a fun night! The Dork Knight wanted to remain anonymous.

  40. Ukuhead:

Good morning again... fell back asleep.

  41. Rodney:

Why am I the only Triad at work today?

  42. KAN:

Guuuuuuud afternoon Hive! Sorry I was AWOL last night, so I gotta catch up lilo bit:

OK. Back to the question. Snow et al. I'd pay to be married to Ukuhead and still feel that I got a deal.

Are we still filing entries in the tedious short FICTION contest?

And big FIST BUMP to Rodney for #80 yesterday.

I'd be okay giving up my cell phone and any alcohol for a week. Don't ask me to give up my mp3 player for a week, though - that's part of my urban mass-transit self-defense package. mp3 player, sunglasses and mace.

Nice picture of the Hive members at play. I, too, am suspicious of TDK, though - hmmmmm, witless protection program member? (nahnahnahnahnahnah!)

  43. KAN:

I dunno, Rodney, why ARE you the only Triad member at work today? BL's taking a long weekend to chillax with Mrs. BL and they're going to DK Steakhouse, I know. Is QB working the late shift tonight?

  44. Shauna:

Morning again... mmmm, that breakfast of Ocean Lover's put me right to sleep! :D

hanapaa and HNL2LAS: No ketchup though!! But kim chee works! ;)

Kage: Did you get your paper yet?

    Rodney: How's work?

BananaFysh: Is Bejeweled working now??? So I take it you still didn't beat me?

  45. Rodney:

Nope, QB has the day off too. Although I will get paid an extra day for working today - whereas they won't.

I should go treat myself to something nice.

  46. sally:

By referral of Rodney @ MLC I'm checking out this board. You guys sound nuts... just the kind of people I relate to.

hmmmm, cell ph vs booze. Sorry Jack, but the cell ph wins.

  47. Rodney:

QB - it's super, super busy here (can't you tell  ).

Breaking News - Palin to resign as governor - to prepare to run for President in 2012.

    Is she nuckin' futs?

  48. KAN:

Oh, Rodney, don't get me started on Sarah Palin. I think she's a blight.

On to less upsetting topics ;-)

Sweetie and I are going to a kanikapila/party this evening - a musical buddy from California's visiting. I have two batches of haupia sitting on my table cooling right now. Good music, good food, good friends - thank goodness.

  49. Brother Love:

whoa rodney, you makin dat extra salad. you plan on going vegas anytime soon. my wife was telling me last night she wants to go in october so that might be in the planning for me..

    Ps, no work to hard...

  50. Shauna:

Dang, what happened to my other comment? Grr!!!

sally: Welcome to O&E!! Nuts doesn't even begin to cover it!! We're ODD, crazy, OCD, talk in riddles, bash the men, laugh too much, overeat, do everything in extreme... but YES, you came to the right place!! Please come back daily and share anything with us. (Rod: Thanks for referring her!)

Rod and KAN: Nuckin' futs!! That line always cracks me up!! Is that why she's resigning?? I saw the headline on our homepage but didn't read the story... Interesting!

  51. Shauna:

KAN: Short fiction contest!!! LOL!!! Fist bump!! BIG SNORT! ;) Have fun tonight! Are there going to BEE fireworks?

Crap! I found my other comment! Somehow it got attached to hanapaa's one. I think when I double clicked something it erased his! Sorry! Here was my comment (again):

    hanapaa: You crack me up!

I would give up my cell AND puters BEEfoa ALCOHOL!!!!! Das like telling a BEEVD to give up HONEY!!!! Worship DA Fruit!!!!

No way can you give up honey!! :D

Brother Love: You get a fist bump also!

... no way am i thinking of giving up honey bees lol shoot i would go back to the days of a pager before i do that..

che: What's wrong with working out all in pink? Too bright and blinding? ;)

  52. teejay:

KAN: Have a good time with your sweetie and kanakapila. Take your uke and jam with friends. Eat plenty too!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. Shauna:

It seems more than just one person noticed The Dork Knight hiding in the photo! I joked we can only see his right eyeball!! But as teejay points out, everyone has the choice whether to BEE in the photo or not.... I won't out someone without their permission. Though ironically Ukuhead pointed out I never asked him the time we met him at Kabuki's! Oops!

  54. Shauna:

teejay: Do you have your son this holiday weekend?

HNL2LAS: Yeah, wasn't this story funny considering IRL you didn't have your phone for so long. Still can't BEElieve I had to leave a message on your home machine. So old school!! ;) Oh yeah, once again I'm laughing WITH you!! :D

  55. Rodney:

@KAN - you folks going to the Boomer Blast in Seattle with the Beatboys and King Pins?

"Boomer biz is big in the Pacific Northwest. Gail Ohashi (the former Gail Kiyama, a Kaimuki High grad), is producing "Fourth of July Boomer Blast Seattle 2009" this Saturday at the Doubletree Suites Seattle, with retro bands Russ Shiroma & The BeatBoys and Harvey Yamauchi & The King Pins providing the vibes. ...

@sally - as you can see, no one really stays on topic here at O&E. Say, I bet you know Gail Kiyama and/or the King Pins and/or the BeatBoys.

@Brother Love - no immediate plans on visiting Vegas. Too hot this time of year. October should be nice - but I like the freezing January time.

working hard, hardly working - same thing.

  56. Ynaku:

Good Morning. Ho you guys late. I just like OL, wake up same time. but I was out da door early. Taking story with my uncle working in his garden asking for advice "Eh Boy, you gotta use da chicken manure" "yeah Uncle I know but da buggah make my truck stink then my wife no like come with me....Um, I think I going store buy Chicken Manure" You need anything Uncle?" Yeah, buy me some Cabatete (Chinese Ocra) seeds" "OK, I get um for you."

So off I went to fight da crowds in da store. Dang the crowg, Y"ou old folks no sleep or what?"

    Ho da busy

  57. Ynaku:

@sally, yay, this dauddah side of the Triad

  58. Ynaku:

Oh yeah, nice pic. I was thinking the same thing about TDK. He no like show his face. Either that or we get one junk photographer. Yeah that's it. Dunno how for compose da pic. Go learn from Rodney. Wait, maybe was him. Never mind.

  59. Ynaku:

    OK lunch!

  60. Shauna:

Kage: Nice observations on Aunty Paula and The Dork Knight!

Ocean Lover: Your theories are more funny, though!! ;)

  61. Rodney:

    Shauna:
sally: Welcome to O&E!!

QB: 1 ticket to the honey pot will suffice.

  62. Rodney:

Keeping on topic, one of my odd ringtones (and irritating to many) is the car alarm: http://www.zedge.net/ringtones/557395/car-alarm-ringtone/

  63. Shauna:

Ynaku: Hello!!! Check your FB! TDK is now on!! ;)

Rodney: I'm cool like that so I'll give you two tickets to the honey pot! :D

  64. Ukuhead:

    BEJEWELED BLITZ IS CURRENTLY OFFLINE

There was a major fire at Bejeweled Blitz's server hosting facility last night. We would like to say that the heat of everybody's gem swapping burned up the servers, but unfortunately in this case it was an actual fire.

Bejeweled Blitz will not be available until the damage is cleaned up and generators are brought in to restore power. Our current estimate is that we will be back up later tonight (Seattle Time).

When the game does come back up, you may notice that some of your friends' scores from this week appear to have been erased. Don't worry -- all scores are safe and secure in our database, and they will start to show correctly as you and your friends visit the game.

Thanks for playing Bejeweled Blitz. We are working very hard to get the game up and running for you as soon as possible, and we appreciate your patience.

    - The Bejeweled Blitz Team

Shauna: I guess your score for this week got erased

    Soooo Sad

  65. sally:

Shauna: your descrip of everyone... I feel like I've met new soulmates. hahaha

M: I'm looking at your pic trying to see if I recognize you but you only look like you could be somebody's older brother. no offense.

Rodney: yes Russ Shiroma of BB is a friend and the guys from Kingpins... they're like having 5 big brothers and I tell them they're the reason I cannot get boyfriend cuz the poor dude would have to pass their inspection. LOL

I met Gail thru Harvey and then found out I knew her brother since elem school and we had fun talking about the old 'hood. Like kicking Jabons down Castle St and buying fish from Akita Store.

What was the subject now? Oh yah, cell vs booze. Got off track there.

I already said cell wins but as soon as that week is up, Mr. Jack gets opened.

  66. Shauna:

Ukuhead: Are you lying???? Too bad for you I was saving my higher score for the new week!

sally: Woo-hoo! Soul mates are a good thing! First piece of advice: Talk stink about a guy named Ukuhead!! ;)

  67. sally:

hahahaha! One rule of life is no talk stink until you got proof to talk stink. And den only talk stink to others who stink just as much, that way we all equal.

  68. honda si boy:

wassup hive! back on oahu for the time BEEing.

BF: oh man, i must have missed that review on da kitchen. huuuu boy, that place looks winnahs! i have to check out maui one day...without the supah fairy though :(

in regards to this topic, yup, i have to say i'd give up alcohol for a week before i give up my cell phone. of course a big part of it is because i don't have a land line to compensate for the loss of my cell. plus you figure, you have a lot less time in the day to drink rather than use your cell phone (can't drink while driving, during work hours, most people won't drink during daylight hours, etc, while you tend to use the phone at all hours of the day, except when you sleep) so you're actually losing less by getting rid of alcohol.

HAHAHA, regarding the pic, the first thing i noticed was that the dork knight is *still* somewhat anonymous to the hive! too funny!

  69. Ukuhead:

    69 baybee!!!

  70. The Dork Knight:

What?!? Didn't you see me trying to shove Melissa out of the way to get in the picture?
Being the gentleman that I am, I had to let her prevail. Besides, I'm sure you would rather see her pretty face than mine.

And a fist bump to KAN for...

TDK, though - hmmmmm, witless protection program member?

  71. Kage:

    Good afternoon all.

Got back home around 2pm and my HA newspaper was here. Morning news in the afternoon..yeah.

Many things accomplished today. I got worms. I better rephrase that.... I bought worms. I went to the worm store on King by McCully. Gonna do some composting on my lanai.

  72. teejay:

Shauna: My son was just dropped off for the weekend and of course the first thing he wants to do is go to his friends house.

  73. turk fontaine:

For crying out loud; doesn't Roper Survey have anything better to do? Would you rather be eaten by Pirhana or thrown into the lava pool at Mauna Loa? Would you rather jump off the Golden Gate bridge after spending the night with Sandra Bullock, or be poisoned by a Fugu after winning the academy award for best supporting actor?

  74. Brother Love:

    turk i would rather,,
    1. eat a pirhana, and then throw up into the lava pool @ mauna loa.
    2. jump sandra bullocks bones on the golden gate bridge and then winning the academy award for my performance.

  75. Scott:

Bullock is too old. Let's talk Anne Hathaway.

  76. M:

    Good evening hive!

Busy day, I powered wash the mildew on the eaves of my house, took my daughter to the airport, picked up my son from Kahala Mall and went out for our Friday dinner date.

I only use my phone to contact my kids or masako. No texting, no internet, no music, no e-mail. My ring tone is a chime from a train station in Toyko.

  77. honda si boy:

wow, slow night on the blogs tonight...guess everyone is out celebrating the three day, fourth of july weekend? first friday?

  78. Shauna:

honda si boy: Get to bed! You got a busy day tomorrow! :D

turk fontaine: Haha, such interesting questions you propose!

Brother Love: Great answers to turk fontaine's questions!! ;)

M: Wow, very busy day! Where was the dinner date? Somewhere at Aloha Tower so you could watch the fireworks?

Scott: Anne is too young!! ;)

  79. Brother Love:

the wife & I went swimming today and then went to blockbuster to get a few movies that she wanted to see. we are having a good evening and the kids are with my inlaws until tomorrow afternoon.

  80. Shauna:

Brother Love: Cool! What movies did you guys pick up?

  81. Shauna:

teejay: Your son's at that age. Wait till he gets a girlfriend! ;)

Kage: Worms?? Ewww!! Nah! I heard that composting thing is suppose to BEE good. Let me know how that goes!

The Dork Knight: Well I do have a better photo of you but I'll keep it unpublished for now! ;)

sally: Sigh, I know you're right!!

  82. Shauna:

Ukuhead: I guess you weren't lying about the Bejeweled fire!! Hopefully it will get fixed soon so I can see my higher score! ;)

honda si boy: Good overthinking on the giving up of the alcohol over your cell phone. If you break it down by hour, you definitely use the cell more than drink alcohol... I'm just surprised you have an "old" cell phone. Figured you would like the latest gadgets...

  83. L10pc:

okay, I gotta ask...where is this alleged "Bejeweled" you speak of? There is a version that's available on AOL, but doesn't save the scores :)

  84. Shauna:

L10pc: Sorry about all the Bejeweled talk. It's a game on Facebook. Probably the same concept you see on AOL but this one gives you only one minute of play and scores are saved for a week. You can compete with all your other Facebook friends who play the game and there is a scoreboard attached to the game...

  85. Brother Love:

so thats what all that buzzin about bejeweled is about lol. i knew it had to be a game but i never heard of it before.

shauna we got mall cop, gran torino, & hancock, we watched hancock after dinner and it was pretty good i thought it was funny lol.

  86. HNL2LAS:

Bhahahh there was a fire on Bejeweled BEEcuz soo many of you play like crazies all the time! OVERLOAD!!! hehe....

  87. Ocean Lover:

    Good Morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Da birds BEE chirping, its a BEEyootiful day....and two neighbors are talking to each other WAKING EVERYONE UP.

"HOO........ALA MOANA PARK NO MO PARKING ALREADY.......CROWDED!"

  90. M:

Good Morning teejay, OL and da hive!

OL, you go Sam's Club every weekend?

  91. teejay:

M: What are you and Masako doing today?

  92. M:

teejay, I'm dropping off masako's parents at the airport in less than an hour from now and we are going to have breakfast after that.

  93. Scott:

Morning Hive! Happy 4th. The wife just fed the boy and she went back to bed. I've got baby duty. I'm supposed to bee reading to him, but I'm just watching him squirm on the couch. He's making funny noises now, I'll go chat with him, baby talk.

  94. KAN:

Guuuuuuuud morning OL, teejay, M and Scott and da Hive!

Got a bad start to the morning. We were awakened at 3 a.m. by an alarm going off. I thought it was the building's fire alarm, but it was our "water alarm" - the overload tank in our water heater had sprung a leak out of a pinhole. Not a lot of water, but enough to set off the water alarm. The water heater's not that old either - we bought it in 2002. We woke up our poor neighbor to help us since we had no idea what was going on. 10 soaked towels and and hour-and-a-half later, we went back to bed. No hot water for us today (for at least a couple of days) but it's supposed to be hot for a couple of days here, so it could have been a lot worse.

KAN . . . thankful that we didn't floor the downstairs neighbors!

  95. KAN:

Woops - that's "flood" the downstairs neighbors. Clearly I need to have some breakfast and caffeine already.

  96. Scott:

KAN: couple of years ago, in my friends parents house back in California, they had their water heater burst and it flooded their whole home. They were on vacation at the time. They had a 2 million dollar mansion (I know how to choose my friends ;) and it filled up to 12 feet of their game room and into the stairwell. It was crazy, and he had all these pricess sports items that were ruined.

  97. sally:

Brother Love: Gran Torino is a GREAT movie! Classic Eastwood. Just watched Slumdog, now I understand what all the hullaballoo was about. Pretty good movie. As you notice, I watch movies after they come out on DVD.

Happy and Safe 4th to all!

  98. Shauna:

    Happy Fourth of July!

KAN: Oh no!!! So you live in an apartment and have your own water heater? I'm glad your neighbor was able to help you!! Hope your place didn't get too ruined! No hot showers on hot days could BEE worse I guess...

sally and Brother Love: I need to watch Gran Torino... it was mentioned on here several times BEEfore. I think teejay watched that recently...

Scott: Sounds like you have a nice day ahead of you!

Ocean Lover: Is one of those loud-talking neighbors also the door-slamming one??? How was Sam's Club? I imagine everyone getting their last-minute BBQ items...

HNL2LAS: There was a fire on Bejeweled cause BananaFysh and Ukuhead are in overdrive trying to beat my score...

anklebiters and kate: Our thoughts are with you on this holiday! Hope you are doing well. We miss you!

teejay and M: Hope you guys have a great rest of the weekend!! Weather looks gorgeous! :D

  99. Ocean Lover:

Here we are gonna buy a dozen pastry and this FOOD STAMP COUPLE have 3 times what we're buying........with FOOD STAMPS??????

  107. Ocean Lover:

So this BEE my lucky day! We're gonna watch the fireworks from my aunty's office in the Ala Moana Pacific Center. She's on the makai side of the building and halfway up.........PERFECT VIEWING for the fireworks! AND..........she just invited the family to pre-fireworks dinner at SHOKUDO.

If I tell them I know Queenie............will they take care of us? ;-)

    OL...................great evening ahead

  128. Shauna:

Ocean Lover: You always have the best stories!! Didn't know you could use food stamps at a bakery... And I agree, I think they do eat better than us! They probably don't eat as many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as me!! ;) Have fun watching the fireworks show with that great view!! And Shokudo!! Yeah, mentioning Queenie won't get you anywhere though I recently met one of the co-owners at a networking event. Kinda young Japanese guy...

  129. Shauna:

Ukuhead: Thanks for the Bejeweled tip...I just improved on my top score as I was listening to anklebiters' music!! :)

  130. Ocean Lover:

Getting ready to go. I'll tell the SHOKUDO folks "Eh....I know the gang that comes here once in a while on a SUNDAY NIGHT....loiters around eating BEE VOMIT TOAST while you guys wanna CLEAN UP AND CLOSE.....I'll have what THEY HAVE" ;-)

And after that, we'll BEE looking down at the top deck of Ala Moana on the MACY's side and BEE amazed at how CROWDED and see parking spaces open "here and there" and point to all the guys BEElow....."Eh, next row ovah............NOW!" and laugh. ;-)

Thanks HIVE for your kind words....right now its just a matter of when and not if. He's made it for more than a week....

How is Kate's mom by the way :?: Isn't she in Hawaii :?:

  134. KAN:

Ankles, I'm sorry to hear Papa is not doing well. You're having a hard time with all the stuff going on now - we're all thinking good thoughts for you.

Rodney - nope, Sweetie and I are staying firmly at home tonight. There are too many scary drivers who have been sitting in the hot sun all day and drinking, so we try not to go out on the 4th. Plus, we have a good view of fireworks from our roof (no, not li'dat!) so there're plenty of reasons to just stay home.

I grilled tonight, trying a new pork tenderloin recipe. Yum. Used a marinade of honey, lime, chili paste, garlic powder and kosher salt (Alton Brown's recipe). Also tried a new German potato salad recipe that also came out well. Gotta try them the next time I grill for the Mancave crew. :-)

  135. anklebiters:

David Choi - Won't Even Start

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejpQntaJ4pY

  136. Scott:

Hi Ankles. I wish your father the best. We're here for you!

We spent the afternoon at Kailua beach park. I told my wife "there'll be nobody there, everyone's at Ala Moana. "

    I was wrong.

It was so freaking crowded. We found a nice shady spot. It seems a lot of the Waimanalo and Waianae crowd made a visit as well. (I know, because they had tattoos that said "Waianae" and "Waimanalo", so I'm not making a false assumption ;) There's nothing like sitting next to 25 people drinking, smoking, cursing, fighting, blasting obnoxious music, throwing horseshoes 5 feet from you. Maybe Ocean Lover's friend from the bakery was there......?

It was less than peaceful, so we left. The boy got to go in the ocean for his first time, but I'll make sure to find a better time/place to spend my relaxing time with the family.

  152. sally:

Long distance relationships are do-able. I've been thru two and the reasons for failure had nothing to do with the distance. They were just stoopid, didn't know what they coulda had. (so full o' myself huh? LOL) Would you go to London? Is she worth packing up for London?

Yup, when it rains it freaking storms!

  153. Scott:

Ankles: I used to live in London. If you need any advice, I'd bee glad to share, but I'm sure you've got all your bases covered.

Hope I'm not moderated this time...... :(

  154. anklebiters:

    sally:

That's a tough question for me to answer :!: That's another freakin' country :!: I love British accents but not when everyone has it. Friend's with benefits has it advantages

  155. honda si boy:

fireworks are gonna start soon. might go down to my friend's office in the hokua building but for some reason, i'm just too tired to go out. i was slaving away *ALL* day today and i just wanna curl up, watch tv, and go to sleep!

ooo, true lies is on tv...i think i'll eat some ribs with my roommates and veg in front of the tv tonight...

  156. Scott:

    @Honda, True Lies is awesome

Gov. Schwarzenneger to Sigourney Weaver- "Yeah, I killed a lot of people, but they were all bad."

    Sweet movie ;)

  157. teejay:

Scott: True Lies is Jimie Lee Curtis and not Sigourney. Both hot honey's in their time.

  158. teejay:

Jamie not Jimie which would a completely different movie!!!!

  159. anklebiters:

    teejay/scott:

    Eliza Dushka is better

  160. teejay:

ankles: No complaints from me. Nice tata's. My girl Angie is still hotter.

  161. teejay:

HK fireworks show was not as good as past shows. I guess the economy has a hand in this as well. Having my son here is the best even though he's trying to make like he doesn't know me. I'll kick his butt later.

    Happy Fourth everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  162. sally:

Best scene in True Lies was "Dance for me". Everytime someone even says True Lies, I break into "the dance".

Angie... is it just me or is she just too "dark"? Something just not right about that woman. Of course, men have their own opinion.

  163. KAN:

Seattle fireworks were awesome and well coordinated to music. During the line in "Unchained Melody" that goes "I need your love," hearts popped up. During "When You Wish Upon a Star," stars appeared. During Prince's "Let's Go Crazy," the sky was awash in green. We had perfect weather for it too - 75 and a nice breeze. Good ending to a day that had a bad beginning.

Happy Independence Day Hive. Snooze time for me and Sweetie.

  164. teejay:

sally: Me and you need to talk. Since you are new to the hive I'll be gentle with you (don't dis the queen of celluloid and charity). Who is your man squeeze?
I would like to see your "the dance"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  165. sally:

hahahaha!!!! Man Squeeze? oooh, lettseee... Johnny Depp, da Plumber on Desp Housewives, Josh Holloway. hmmmm....

My friends say I have "bad boy syndrome". See my problems?

Be nice. Thank you. hahaha Girls just wanna have fun. That's all I ask is make me laugh, let me sing, and give me room to dance. I gotta bee meeee! oops, wrong board again.

  166. Brother Love:

no way on the long distance relationships, if she wants to go then get somebody better. alot of women out there. letting her play this game and calling da shots is gonna lead to more of it.

sally got the dance going on, you go girl!!

  167. Scott:

Uh, oh. Sally is gonna kill the Mancave ratio!

Kidding, Sally. Welcome. Stick around long enough and you'll witness the Mancave....you might want to retreat.

Beefore I forget, THANK YOU Teejay and Ynaku for serving in the military and serving this great country. You are both better men than I, and I truly thank you for your service.

  168. teejay:

Scott: : You are welcome but when it comes to serving nothing beats the military. Like many I didn't join for the accolades. I joined cuz I love weapons. I'm sick I know. I got to work on many weapons systems and loved all the technology. I got more out of it than I ever put into it including the job I have now. It's not for everybody but we can all use the great kids coming up through the ranks now. God bless them!!!! sally is another story. She is nuts and I think me and her are soul mates. Mancave is safe and will always be so as long as I post.

  169. sally:

I grew up with 3 older brothers and our street was mostly boys. You guys don't scare me. So long as I can find somebody to run behind when I get scared. Shauna looks too pretty and skinny so I can't run behind her. LOL yah, talk big but a true wimp. I'm just used to getting bus' up.

  170. sally:

...and thank you to all who have served our country. I may not know you all, but I know what I appreciate.

  171. Ukuhead:

Sooo sad... Nobody to play with bwahahaha...

  172. Ocean Lover:

    Good Morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning OL, Ukuhead, teejay and M!

Good grief, OL, at the end of the process, YOU'RE going to be the one who deserves the Eagle Scouthood.

  177. sally:

    Ohayoo Gozaimasu Minaasan!

Ok, don't be impressed, that's about the extent of my Japanese language. I butcher the rest of it.

OL: Eaglescout? Where you live? Next island wide blackout we'd need to be at your house.

  178. Brother Love:

wassup gang hope everybody enjoying their extended weekend. btw sally welcome to da hive, having a great day over here so far..

  179. sally:

awwww, such love. I'm off to the Y now. Need to be skinny yesterday. Dang. Trying to lose baby fat. Problem is my baby is 21 yrs old and the fat I manage to lose comes back and finds me and brings more friends. ~groan~

    Have a good Sunday everyone!

pssst... anyone wanna wash my car for me?

  180. Brother Love:

steve mcnair death now considered a homicide..
he probably was with that woman for the sex then that got old and was gonna break it off with her, then she shot him and turned the gun on herself. he made a mistake imo when he got a muslim chick for a mistress nothing against muslims but at the first signs of distress they start thinkin about "flying into the arms of allah" "i kill you" (ackmahd the terrorist style) bang bang and its in the newspapers lol.
i don't think the wife had anything to do with it, but its pretty obvious that he was'nt getting that "special attention" at home so he went and picked up something strange.

  181. Ukuhead:

awwww, such love. I'm off to the Y now.

Will you be dining there???

Oh yeah... Welcome to the hive...

  182. Ocean Lover:

    Good Afternoonnnnnnnnnn!

Ho boy I BEE tired. Just got home and we worked in the HOT SUN! Boy was it HOT!

Did I mention it was HOT? From 8 a.m. till after 2 p.m. doing landscaping in the HOT SUN.

The Taiwanese president ? past by around 1:15-1:30 p.m. and the cops blocked off Pali Highway. A helicopter hovered overhead.....motorcycle cops going 80+ mph up the Pali Highway to "clear the way".

    THAT was today's excitement........

    OL..............sunburned cheeks........on his face ;-)

  183. Ocean Lover:

Forgot to SHARE this with everyone. Yesterday as we were about to leave for dinner and the fireworks, I hear this commotion.....crashing noise. Apparently this guy who seemed to be in his late 30's was riding a skateboard in the middle of the street and crashed. We live just about at the bottom of a slight incline heading into the valley so he was riding his skateboard "downhill"......apparently for a while as his speed was pretty good.

I heard this muffled "crash" and looked to see this guy rolling on the ground and BEEing more embarrassed than anything else he yells out "F_cken rock!" and he had this HUGE "road rash" on his upper right arm.

I woulda helped him......but da first thing yelling out "F_ucken rock!" didn't exactly rally my "helping" personality. ;-)

Was a NASTY ROAD RASH.......lucky I nevah faint. About 3 inches long and 2 inches wide.....a bright "strawberry red".

OL............wondering how come he nevah faint yesterday.

  184. sally:

BL: Who is your publisher? Will you autograph my copy of your first book? You got good imagination. (might not be too far off tho').

Ukuhead: Thanks for the welcome. Dining? Are you kidding me? I come out of there looking like a mop. My friend saw me coming out of the cardio room and said "looks like you had a good workout". Nice way of saying "you're a 9 on the haddit scale". (however, I hear the food is pretty good there)

OL: Urusai kine excitement. Go bocha now.

Off to Long's in a little while. I will NOT buy Donettes. I will NOT buy Donettes. I will NOT buy Donettes. ~sigh~ No, really, I will NOT buy Donettes. HAAAALP!!! I need intervention.

  185. sally:

OL: "didn't rally my helping personality" I gotta remember that one. LOL

You guys know the Kapiolani/Date 20 way intersection? I once saw a guy on a bicycle, tried to beat the oncoming traffic just when their light turned green. One car bumped him and he fell off the bike. Only injured his pride and he pushed the driver away when offered help and walked his crooked bike across. The driver could only throw his hands in the air like "oh well, I tried". Hopelessly lolo some people.

  186. Brother Love:

    lol
imagination? i dunno about that but would'nt doubt if i am on the money w/ that assessment. the way to break it off w/ psycho is to do it in a public place or at least where you have other ppl around or you write em a letter hahahhahahha (that is where steve mcnair went wrong w/ this). trust me thats the way to do it and survive.

PS: i will keep you posted when my book is ready for purchase lol.

  187. Shauna:

Hello hello! Hope everyone had a nice Fourth of July!! :D

sally: Glad no one scared you away!! ;)

anklebiters: Sorry, I thought it was your dad and not father-in-law! Glad he's still holding on!

  188. Brother Love:

wassup shauna, we would never scare her away you know that we are all gentlemen in here. definitely not the scandalous types that you hear about out there ;)

got a lil rant here, my wife locked her keys in the car again. i got her a new car and you lock the doors w/ the remote so how the hell do you lock the keys in the car. i tell ya this is the kind of thing that can drive a guy to start drinking again lol..

  189. teejay:

Bro Love: Did you actually buy you wife a new care or do you have a joint account and "both" of you bought the car? I wish I had a sugar momma to buy me a car.

  190. teejay:

    New CAR and not "care".

  191. Brother Love:

no i bought her a new car in february, it was brand new car back then but the point is the way you lock the doors w/ remote you should'nt be locking your keys in it but this is the 2nd or 3rd time she did it lol. we got a joint acct but thats for the bills, i bought it for her..

  192. teejay:

Bro Love: I hear you and why don't you just take her remote away and put it in her purse? Women like men will not forget their purse or wallet. Take the damn key off the fob and make her use the key only. If she continually locks herself out then just tell her to pay for the locksmith.

  193. Brother Love:

hahahha yah man i had to drive downtown w/ my keys and use my remote to open it up. if i knew i was gonna have this kind of problems w/ it instead of buying her a car i would have bought her a bus pass lol..

  194. anklebiters:

    Shauna:

He passed away this morning  Services in Hawaii but I won't be attending.

  195. sally:

Men, Men: so much testosterone flying! Boy, if you only knew what we say about guys. LOL

    anklebiters: my condolences : (

  196. Masako:

@Anklebiters - Sorry to hear about your Papa, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  197. M:

anklebiters, my condolences to you and your family.

  198. BananaFysh:

@anklebiters -- Sorry to hear about your FIL.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

  199. Ukuhead:

    ankles: My deepest sympathies.

  200. Ukuhead:

    200???

  201. sally:

What do these numbers mean? Lucky comment numbers? Do you win something? Like a virtual High Five? Or virtual $100? or virtual Chicken Katsu Curry from L&L?

  202. Brother Love:

what does testosterone have to do w/ what we are talking about, last time i checked carelessness dont go by a sex or age. if a guy does'nt put the seat back down after he pees women would be all bent out of shape about that because its ridiculous to think that you would forget to do that right. this has nothing to do w/ being a man or a woman, it is all about not being careless. everybody makes mistakes no doubt nobody is perfect, but that does'nt mean we can't strive to be a lil more careful so we don't make same mistakes over and over and over.

  203. sally:

Yah, that's why I thought it was so funny when ... hey, where did that comment go? I thought it posted? Ok, let me repeat for the first time. LOL

I was standing outside my car when the doors auto-locked. I panicked and called my nephew (also my mechanic) and said the remote doesn't unlock the doors. He said "Aunty, your remote doesn't work?" I said "yah". He said "AUNTY YOUR REMOTE DOESN'T WORK?!?" I said 'YAH!" He said "isn't the remote on your keychain?... with the keys?"

    "oh, um, thanks".

Talk about bucks for lolo. I just gotta crack up at the stupid things I do. If I don't, life just gets taken too serious. Seat up? Put it down. No toilet paper? Put new one. Keep locking keys in the car? I thought your bus pass solution was pretty clever LOL That would teach me anyway, taking away my car!

  204. Shauna:

Hello hello! Time to catch up on the posts...

  205. The Dork Knight:

    anklebiters:
My condolences to you and your family.

  206. honda si boy:

anklebiters: sorry to hear about your loss.

  207. Shauna:

anklebiters: I'm sorry to hear about the sad news. :( Too bad you won't BEE able to make the funeral services in Hawaii. I hope things start to turn around for you!

Hello honda si boy and The Dork Knight!

honda si boy: What's this about working hard all day?? What time did you finish this so-called work?

sally: Lucky numbers are like a virtual high five though a virtual chicken katsu from L&L probably is better! Somewhere along the way BEEfore (did you also notice the constant BEE spelling?) I even started a blog, BEEing the FIRST person to comment on the post was like a friendly competition. As I started to get more comments, snagging #100 was the next best thing... #88 was a lucky number for O&E since someone once mentioned the translation for 8 in Japanese was supposed to relate to our BEE theme... I then started to add in two more random numbers. Also a while back, Mr. BananaFysh was so kind to actually start a spreadsheet and record every single person who hit the lucky number during the day. It was cool to see which people would rapidly post consecutively to hit the lucky number or those who would try and snipe it away from those unsuspecting posters. Hope that makes a bit more sense...

  208. sally:

oh. So we can give any kine prize we want then?

Can somebody explain the relation between Hachi (8) and beez? I know the thing about not using the number 4... like selling stuff on Craigslist or Garage Sales for $4, or bunching things in 4's. But hachi? Beez? Hive? Obviously my knowledge of Japanese is sorely lacking.

Hey Brother Love, you still up? Did you watch Gran Torino yet? I don't wanna make comment until you do... don't wanna spoil it for you.

  209. Shauna:

sally: I'm embarrassed that my Japanese isn't any better. I just vaguely remember someone saying 8 is our number... honda si boy is good in Japanese so hopefully he can weigh in... How about whoever gets the next lucky number gets to give away a prize and the recipient is the person who hits the next lucky number? The person who hits the last lucky number listed by me gets to name a new lucky number...

  210. sally:

It's your game girl, go for it! How does everyone keep up here? Esp the Triads. You think you said something then realize you said it on the other side then find out you answering something from this side and.... whoo boy!

Is this a MLC ploy to keep our brains active?

  211. Shauna:

sally: Haha! It's pretty slow on the weekends...wait till all the BEES come out to play. Lots of folks recently got hooked on Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook so have been busy trying to beat each other! ;) BTW, I thought you lived on the Mainland. But it's pretty late now so I'm assuming I was wrong and you live on Oahu! Good luck trying to get FIRST on the new post!

    Good night! :D

  212. Brother Love:

yah i watched gran torino sally whats the comment. btw. i liked it.

    wassup shauna..

  213. sally:

How'd you like the ending? Was whop yo' jaws like how it shoulda been. ~sigh~ such warm fuzzies Eastwood style.

  214. Brother Love:

yah i like the character he played but when he started getting a fitted suit, shaved and stuff i kinda figured he was getting ready for his funeral so i was'nt surprised my wife was kind of bummed on the ending tho.
btw, not upset w/ her anymore she gave me a big "i'm sorry" apology and promise to be careful lol. that was ironic though that you do the same thing lol.

  215. sally:

It's a girl thing. Deep down we know you guys mean well and take good care of us. Heck, she married you didn't she? You must have something good goin' on!

Man, when did it get to be 12:40?
    zzzzzzzzz
