You'll pay for calling me cheap!
May 18th, 2009 by ShaunaCoupons! I’m not ashamed to say I use them. In fact, I love them and hate to buy items without getting some kind of discount. Don't call me cheap though. I like to see it as being resourceful. And hey, I have a mortgage to pay!
But there are good coupons and what I like to call fake ones — you know those that offer the discounted price ONLY if you buy three or more of the items or make a minimum $10 purchase, etc.
Anyone see the latest Times promotion about free groceries? Each week is a new special. The latest one I saw was a free bag of chips and case of soda if you spend at least $60. It sure ain’t worth it to spend so much just to get those freebies. However, if you needed to buy a lot of groceries anyways, then sure, that is a nice little something.
The good news about the recession is that there are deals everywhere you look. I was just mailed a free $20 gift card for Ryan’s last week. Macy’s recent Friends and Family sale was a cool 25% off, a bump up from the normal 20% discount.
Of course, most coupons require spending of some sort... So you can expect to shell out quite a lot even if a coupon is valued at a whopping $1 million!
Coupon: $1 million off condo purchase
UPI
PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Florida real estate broker said he has been distributing coupons for $1 million off the price of a condo to help sell a luxury Palm Beach property.
Rusty Gulden said the coupons he had printed in the Palm Beach Daily News, which expire May 31, offer to reduce the price of a 2,000-square-foot unit at the Sun & Surf condo in Palm Beach from $3.7 million to $2.7 million, the Palm Beach Post reported last week.
Gulden said the coupon is aimed at helping him move the property despite the current state of the luxury housing market.
"The volume is significantly off — you don't need a Ph.D. in finance to know that," Gulden said.
He said the coupon has generated a lot of interest in the unit.
"I've been busier than a one-armed paper hanger showing it," he said.
-----
Do you use coupons? If so, is it only for major purchases or even if it’s to save a quarter here or getting a free drink with your plate lunch?
Are you a club member at all the grocery stores? At restaurants, do you get those cards stamped for a free meal after 10 purchases?
What are some of the more ODD deals you have seen advertised?

Paula has taught me "never pay retail". So if it's on sale - I buy 'um!
Remember: A buyer will pay $2 for a $1 item he/she needs. A shopper will pay $1 for a $2 item he/she doesn't need.

I noticed you enjoy the art of saving money, so I wanted to quickly tell you about my website BOGOfetcher.com:

I'll use the 2 fer 1 coupons, especially for dining out...learned that from the soul mate....she doesn't go anywhere without a coupon. In fact she keeps a folder in her car filled with various coupons.
I gave up on the Costco membership...bulk purchase didn't make sense for me, especially food items...I don't drink two gallons of milk, it would take me over a month
Bread would become moldy before finishing off two loaves.
May 18th, 2009 at 3:45 am
My wife got me into using coupons. I never bothered using them in the past....just seemed like a waste of time. But after going grocery shopping with her and seeing how much we saved by using them I had a change of heart. Now I'm the one looking for good deals.
The latest? Callaway golf has a special right now. If you buy one of their new drivers, the Diablo, FT-9 or FT-iQ, you get a fairway wood for a $1.00! Now I just got to convince the wife that this is really a great deal!

Hi Everybody! Temps continue to soar for at least a couple more days before a cool down begins. Looks for near record highs near 107 on Monday under partly cloudy skies. Tuesday, highs will remain in the triple digits before falling into the 90s on Wednesday. Also, we have a slight chance of showers/storms Wednesday and Thursday as a low pressure system passes through the state.
May 18th, 2009 at 4:43 am
@ ankles: 107!!!? Yikes!!
Oh, good morning by the way....
May 18th, 2009 at 5:03 am
Good Morning!!!!!!!!!!!
You LOSE OUT if you don't use coupons.
OL..........gotta get ready for another week
May 18th, 2009 at 5:25 am
Morning all!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't use the coupons. I'm one of those impulse buyers and buy when I want it not when or if it goes on sale with or without coupons. I do get a lot of Barnes & Noble coupons that I use though.
May 18th, 2009 at 5:42 am
Good morning ankles, OL, jaydee and teejay and the rest of the Hive! Jaydee - I'm assuming you guys came out okay after the earthquake otherwise you wouldn't be posting!
I luuuuuurve coupons. If I can buy something on sale and use a coupon, it makes my day (yes, I know, I lead a sheltered life!) My mom taught me "Anybody can spend money - it takes brains to save it." Of course, I spend the extra money I save on food (eating out, really).
I don't think Banana's in Seattle yet. But he will be this week!
May 18th, 2009 at 5:43 am
Good Morning Hive.
Coupons? Use um if I got um. I like the 2 for 1 meals. I also printed the free KFC grill chicken meal but haven't use it yet.
Gotta buy on sale. But if I need um, I get um too.
oops, gotta go work. See ya.
May 18th, 2009 at 5:57 am
I cut out coupons, but almost always forget them when I go shopping, or never use them before they expire.
I tend to shop for only what I need for the immediate future. Some toiletries I will stock up on. But most stuff I will will have one of what I am using for when I run out of the current one. Then I go and buy one more to replace the back up.
May 18th, 2009 at 6:10 am
Good morning hive!
I almost never buy anything that doesn't have a coupon or isn't on sale. That BEEing said, the NORDSTROM HALF YEARLY WOMEN & KIDS SALE STARTS THIS WEDNESDAY, MAY 20.
May 18th, 2009 at 6:14 am
The Macy's Memorial Day sale also starts on Wednesday. Don't forget to use your COUPON. The last Macy's sale I went to, I got a pair or Ralph Lauren jeans for $13 (reg price $69.50)!!! I love a bargain.
May 18th, 2009 at 6:24 am
Mornin' everyone....you so cal BEEs all ok
See if you can beat this
Soul mate refuses to keep more than a few dollars on her. Everything is purchased with a credit card that has a cash-back attached to it. Not unusual for her to charge a $0.99 purchase to her credit card
If she has "extra" cash on her, it's deposited at her bank immediately.....that's why she banks at one in the super market....open 7 days. She says she is frugal but her BF and I think she has OCD to the max
That's why I call her the richest poor person I know. But I have to admit, as a single mom with two kids, home in a gated community, an Audi A6, working at home for a nutrition software company, she's not your typical example of an ex-with-kids. When it comes to financial success, she's got the mindset for it.

Kohl's always has great sales too....
May 18th, 2009 at 6:38 am
@ KAN, ankles: I was on the computer upstairs when it hit. It was a pretty strong one for sure. I guess it was 4.7 but it seemed a lot stronger than that. The Northridge earthquake in '95 was 6.0 I think and that one scared the c-r-a-p out of me!
@ kate: The earthquake epicenter was closer to you than me. Everything must be ok because your only concern is the Nordstom Half-yearly sale!
May 18th, 2009 at 6:48 am
Good Morning Hive!
Coupons, gotta use coupons. Gotta look for the best deals, never pay retail.
May 18th, 2009 at 6:57 am
jaydee:
You probably felt it more even though the epicenter was far away beecause it was the Newport-Inglewood fault that caused it. You're close to that fault line that runs from Culver City to Newport Beach. This is a bad fault that can generate some BEEg earthquakes.

You must love Kohl's. I better go check it out.

May 18th, 2009 at 7:04 am
ok....
what ODD person took that picture? was that you Shauna???
maybe she uses a LOT of coupons and is really happy with the discounts.
May 18th, 2009 at 7:08 am
was that on purpose?
kan-kles?
nvm, maybe i just found that funny.
May 18th, 2009 at 7:16 am
I don't really use coupons unless it was for something I was planning to buy or someplace I was planning to go and it would need to be for a substantial discount relative to the price.
For example I wouldn't go to Macy's if they gave me a 25% off coupon if I wasn't planning to buy somenthing from Macy's already. I wouldn't make a special trip to use the coupon. I did get my timing belt on my car changed 7 or 8 month early because they sent me a coupon. I wouldn't use a fast food coupon just for a free drink but I would use one for a buy one sandwich get one free type deal.
May 18th, 2009 at 7:18 am
Kankles....good one!

KAN, what year did you graduate from Castle? If you don't mind me asking.
May 18th, 2009 at 8:14 am
che - I gotta maintain some semblance of dignity on the board!
I'll answer in a roundabout way. I said on BL's blog that I grad UH in 1986 (when he was 10. Ugh! I already felt makule). Let's just say I graduated from UH on time after going to Castle.
May 18th, 2009 at 8:15 am
Good Morning,
I always use coupons when I go grocery shopping. Even if it's just to save 25 cents I will use that one coupon and Ralph's still doubles certain coupons so in the end I save 50 cents. I also don't like those buy 3 items to save $1.00. I usually see those coupons for cereal. Cereal is already pretty expensive so to buy 3 boxes to save 33 cents a box isn't worth it for me.
I went to Marukai yesterday and there was a Phiten promotion going on. If you bought over $70 of the Phiten merchandise they gave you a free t-shirt. Why do companies always give away t-shirts? Why not a $20 coupon to use on your next purchase. I wear the Phiten necklace so I would rather get a coupon instead of a t-shirt that I would never wear.
May 18th, 2009 at 8:31 am
Eli: I like Phiten too. Their disks are great when I have specific sore spots on my back. I tried the bracelets and necklaces, but they didn't do too much for me.
Re t-shirts: I just see that as trying to get you to advertise for them. I'm not willing to advertise for many brands, especially if I have to pay for the privilege. I will not buy shirts that say "Old Navy" or "Gap" unless they're $2
That being said, I have a Kamaka `Ukulele t-shirt and a Pagliacci Pizza t-shirt. But I like and use/eat their products.
May 18th, 2009 at 8:33 am
KAN, I met a lot of Castle people at UH who are probably older than you who graduated from Castle in 1980 and 1981. In fact I went to the movies with some of them on Sunday.
May 18th, 2009 at 9:00 am

I'll take the KFC coupon off your hand
May 18th, 2009 at 9:31 am
Rodney/Ynaku: Are those KFC coupons the one that Oprah promoted on her show the other week?
May 18th, 2009 at 9:37 am
g'morning y'all!
coupons? i use em if i got em.....but if no mo.....no problem. i'm gonna buy it if i want it. if it's on sale.....bonus!
mayBEE dass why i stay poor.
i know someone who tries to use coupons even tho the rules printed on the coupon are BEEing violated.
so naughty......tsk tsk
May 18th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Eli: Sometimes I feel "cheap" thinking I'm saving a dime or quarter here but it all adds up in the end. Plus, if you already have the coupon you must as well use it. I'm not that bad where I go searching online for coupons or anything but will just clip out anything that I happen to come across. And you couldn't have said this better:
May 18th, 2009 at 9:39 am
btw.....i hope all you so cal peeps are all okay. earthquakes are scary.
even tho i have experienced many a quake growing up on the BEEg Island......it still scares the BEEjesus outta me.
May 18th, 2009 at 9:40 am
oh yeah.......happy birfday to you Ukuhead!
May 18th, 2009 at 9:42 am
chawan_cut: How did you know that I took that picture? You know I just love walking around stores with my camera staring at people's butts...
So next time, make sure you don't have any holes in your pants cause you might BEE featured next in the ODD image of the day!
kate: Thanks for letting us know about all these upcoming sales. Macy's is having the free gift sale for Lancome!! That's my favorite one!! I wouldn't buy this expensive compact if it weren't for that free gift!!
May 18th, 2009 at 9:48 am
KAN: The Phiten necklace seems to work for me. I used to get migraine headaches but ever since I started to wear the necklace I hardly get any migraines. I've been wearing it for almost a year now.
May 18th, 2009 at 9:55 am
@Shauna - That's the KFC coupon. First of all, KFC is only issuing rain checks now for the free chicken meal.
See: http://tinyurl.com/c36usw
However, the coupon states: at participating KFC restaurants. Guess which KFC restaurants are NOT participating... All Hawaii KFC restaurants.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:00 am
May 18th, 2009 at 10:20 am
Rodney: Go figure, right?
And I'm trying to figure out if I'm a shopper or buyer:
May 18th, 2009 at 10:23 am
che - I've only been reading the honadv blogs for a little while - mostly follow BL's but once in awhile pop in on this one. I know you, but will remain anonymous. Haven't seen you in a while, but I'll mention it next time I run into you. Get back to work and stop playing with the tape!
May 18th, 2009 at 10:28 am
anklebiters: That's an interesting fact about your soul mate. I like to charge most stuff also but usually it's at least $10... And you should tell her that having some emergency cash on you or at home is good. What if an earthquake knocks out power for days and you can't access any bank machines, etc.?
Jack:
Kage: That sucks if you cut out the coupon and forgot to bring it!! I'm trying to not stock up on as many things but it's hard to resist when it's on sale. You hate to be down to your last three squirts of toothpaste and then for some reason you can't find any store with toothpaste on sale. I guess those are times you hope you have those travel-size ones from the dentist!
May 18th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Ok, here's my shopping dilemma.
Yesterday at Costco, I was going to buy this 24 oz. bottle of Old Bay spices for $6.99 - http://tinyurl.com/ohhcr7
Paula said why don't I buy a small bottle instead as I don't need that much spice. And I agreed with her. So off we headed to the market. There I found this 6 oz. can of Old Bay spice for $5.99 - http://tinyurl.com/r92spd
Which one would you buy?
I told Paula that for $1 more, I should buy the Costco one and get 4 times as much spice.
Paula said "Wait until it goes on sale"...
May 18th, 2009 at 10:40 am
Shauna:
She'll charge it
That's what I keep telling her....but you know, wimmen never listens to reason ⊗
. I'm the opposite of her, I keep a petty cash fund...never have to visit an ATM this way.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:40 am
Good Morning Hive!
Glad to hear all the SoCal BEEs are okay!
I use coupons whenever I can. I HATE paying full retail. It pains me!
If it's only for a quarter, not too bad if I forget the coupon, but if it's for 25% off, I feel ill. Missed opportunities! aggh!
May 18th, 2009 at 10:42 am
Thanks opso
May 18th, 2009 at 10:54 am

I hope there's no quake when we are there.

I always wanted ocean front property in AZ. I remember a tv series a few years ago where the BEEG and Cali disappeared a BEEG part of became an island.

Shauna: I used to feel "cheap" too but like you said everything add up in the end. I only cut the coupons from the Sunday L.A. Times so if I cut them out might as well use them. It would be a waste of time to cut out the coupons and not using it.
May 18th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Uncle Jimmy - probably not da song you looking for, but I teeking "Stand by Me," Ben E. King. Glad you ste okay.
Ynaku - no good deed goes unpunished. You got outed 'cuz you brought omiyage to da Triad! I rememba da pitchah!

May 18th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
howzit gang! hope everyone had a great weekend with not too many ODD things happening (except this blog!!!).
shauna: glad you liked the drinks from last time! i sure hope no one thought i was that not-so-good looking guy in the back ground. yikes!
as far as the mainland delivery (eli?) i'd gladly do it if it's for california!!! just send the first class tickets on hawaiian airlines, plus the reservation confirmation to the 5 star hotel, and the complementary tickets to disneyland, universal studios, and knott's berry farm, and i'll have that chai or coffee drink all ready for yah!!!
snow: as for the chai, no water, it doesn't make the drink "thicker" but it does give it a little bit more concentrated flavor. but i think that's a good thing if you're using non-fat milk or soy milk (instead of the standard 2% or whole milk) since the non-fat or soy tend to be more watery anyways.
and for the calorie counts on those drinks, not sure off the top of my head, but i can check the partner manual that's for "internal use only" and report back to the hive. shauna, in regards to the apple juice, yeah, all apple juice has is sugar in it. they may pump it up with vitamin a or c, but that's about it. if you think about it, EATING an apple gives you fiber from the fruit, but once you turn that into a juice, bam, it's gone! orange juice on the other hand, has vitamin c from the citric acid.
okay, and now to the current topic (geez, i hate missing postings!) coupons and discounts...working in the retail industry, i can honestly say that now is definitely the time to buy material objects just cause the deals are so good. of course, being that the economy sucks right now, buying things just cause it's a good deal and not because you actually NEED it, may BEE a bad idea. for me, "need" and "want" are both kinda the same
i have a shopping problem and that does not bode well for a public school teacher's salary!
shauna: as for the ODDibles, i still have some pics of the restaurant in san diego..it's a mix of asian and carribean flavors so that might BEE kinda odd. if not, i can think of a few places that have odd and/or interesting servings. oh man, i just went to shokudo this weekend and the dessert i ordered LOOKED odd...it was a sesame seed mochi float thing and it was all BLACK!!! it did not look very good, but it tasted okay. too bad i didn't think of taking pictures! gomen! hmmm, guess i have to go back there!
May 18th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
As far as I know, Turd Tuesday still on. I'll be there. Who else is coming.
So far I know Rod, Scott? , Me, Snow?

jeez.....it's BEEn one month awready?
May 18th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Anklebiters:
If CA fell into the ocean and you suddenly had ocean front property, wouldn't it bee nice to get that refreshing ocean breeze from Alaska? Sure would beat the 107 temps you had today. You can dream, eh? But then, we wouldn't have a Hawaii to return to BEEcause the tsunami from the giant earthquake would wipe out the islands.
Hmmm....Ocean breeze for Anklebiters or the Hawaiian Islands? Which would you choose?
May 18th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
BananaFysh: Almost packed for the trip? Don't forget the camera for the ODDIBLES review!
And sorry but I gotta ask: Do you carry your coupons in your murse?
M: Hope this beach house doesn't have a refrigerator filled with things that are NOT supposed to BEE in there!!
gmanoa: Welcome to Odds and Ends!! So what's your take on this whole coupon thing? And what a small world you know che!! Heh heh! Now he has to BEE good!
May 18th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Okay, we're on for tomorrow at Pasta Basta.
Each meal as Pasta Basta is "cooked to order" which means that they don't prepare it until you order it. Subsequently, they get quite backed up during the lunch rush. Might want to consider calling in your order for a 12 noon pick up and we can just eat it there. Even if it's in a take out because chances are, you'll be taking some home.
Here's a menu link opso provided: http://tinyurl.com/p2abpv
May 18th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
@Shauna -- I never even start packing yet.
I'll start tomorrow!
No worry, I won't forget the camera. So what if I don't have anything ODD to eat?
Hm, wait, I'll BEE with KAN, so that should BEE ODD enough, regardless of what we have to eat.
I keed, I KEED! haha!
Hey, stop making fun of my murse!
May 18th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
uncle jimmy: Of course we worry about our distant ohana! You guys make up half of O&E!
Ukuhead: I won't BEE making this Turd Tuesday!
I really appreciate you keeping this going!
honda si boy: OK, send me those pics and I'll see if they are ODD enough! It will BEE tough but I will do my best to BEE impartial and think if most "normal" people would eat it then it's not that ODD. What good deals are you seeing in the retail industry right now? Macy's just mailed me two sets of $20 off coupons and 25% off coupons!
May 18th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
OMG: BF is going to seattle...he's gonna take pictures of all those flying (banana)FYSH at pike place market, right?!?!?! hahaha! nah nah, just kidding.
whachu gonna do in seattle BF? uhmmm, or did you actually post that earlier and am i BEEing lazy by not reading all the previous posts?

shauna: hmmm, oops, well it's not really odd in the sense that people won't eat or try it, but i was thinking that it was an odd combination of food styles that you really don't see in hawaii. oh well, i will keep trying. kelli-gurl had that one review at tokkuritei and they have my most favorite dish--the ume yakitori. that is kinda odd cause i haven't heard anywhere else that puts ume paste on grilled chicken. but man, that is super oishii!!!!
as for the discounts and deals...just walk the mall and many "mainstream" stores (gap, banana(fysh) republic, express, club monoco, guess?, a/x, etc, etc) all have 30% off stuff, take extra 15% off sale stuff, or buy 2 for $--.-- etc etc.) random deals depending on the company and what week it is. next week express has some good deals on tshirts so i'm gonna head there and blow some of my paycheck
and maybe i'll stop off at starbucks and think of a new drink for you to try...along with your caramel apple spice drink...with no chocolate! haha!
May 18th, 2009 at 1:26 pm

HSiB, Banana could take pictures of flying bananas AND flying fysh! And yes, the mere fact that we're going to dine together (with Mrs. BF as the normative influence, I hope!) is plenty ODD. And wit two Kepanee, garans ballbarans goin' have at least two cameras!

Ukuhead: You can always bring back a dish for me!!
honda si boy/KAN: Flying bananas and flying fysh would BEE a hilarious site! Hope your camera can snap the action quickly BEEfore it flops back from its airborne state!!
che: Heh heh! And the mystery continues! I guess you're still recognizable even though you had the lovely O&E shirt on!
gmanoa: Coupons for the absolutely free stuff is the best! So hard to find or as Ynaku found, not eligible in his neck of the woods!
May 18th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Speaking of bananas, here's an ODD story:
Deputies: Banana used as gun in holdup, then eaten
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Authorities in North Carolina say a store owner and a patron thwarted a teen accused of trying to carry out a robbery by concealing a banana beneath his shirt to resemble a gun.
Winston-Salem authorities say 17-year-old John Szwalla entered the Internet cafe Thursday and demanded money, saying he had a gun.
The owner, Bobby Ray Mabe, said he and a customer jumped Szwalla, holding him until deputies arrived. While they waited, Mabe says the teen ate the banana.
Mabe says deputies took pictures of the peel. Forsyth County Sheriff’s office spokesman Maj. Brad Stanley says deputies joked about charging Szwalla with destroying evidence.
Szwalla faces a charge of attempted armed robbery. Jail officials say he doesn’t have an attorney.

That's ad ODD banana story, Shauna. Where do you find them?
Now that you won't BEE doing sharing plates, does that mean we don't have to do a report on our SoCal dinner with M & Masako?
May 18th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
Kate:
Unless there's something ODD about our get together.
We could do just a picture of our get together though.

Hi Hive,
@ QB, I thought it was always a sideways smile??
I think all the honey bee's will get on my case, however, if I need or want something 99% of the time, I get it. Not to say I couldn't wait for a sale, it's just my style. Perhap's I'm too generous to a fault, but if any of da honeybee's were my g/f, I see something for you, I buy. It's the thought at that moment, not wait for it to go on sale.
The only time I may use a coupon is when I buy books, one of my recreational past times. I kinda stopped using them after they quit sending them to me via my cell, guess I could always print it out, but then........
May 18th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
@HSiB -- I'm going up
special, just to stalk and torment KANto go visit some family. Got a few things lined up, but it's pretty open.Probably go watch them throw fish. I've seen it BEEfore. meh. I want to see them throw something interesting, like a swordfish!
Or an ono, with it's mouth open, and if the guy doesn't catch it right, he LOSES HIS ARM!!!!
haha!!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
@kate --
Oh, that's an easy one. Queenie is obsessed with me, so she's always checking the wire, and has "banana" as her keyword.
She always has banana on the brain!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
BananaFysh:
Oh, I forgot about the flying fish! They throw the fish! It's BEEn a long time since I've BEEn to Seattle. I thought you left already BEEcause I thought you were coming home Memorial Day weekend. We're not driving up now...my MIL & FIL are going up on their own. So watch out for the old Japanese couple driving a Honda Accord...my FIL is 79 going on 80 so stay clear of him on the road!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
BananaFysh:
We finished the Conestoga wagon! Thanks for your help. It was a lot of work. I took pictures if you want to see it. There's an open house at the school at the end of May and I'll get to see all the kids wagons then.
May 18th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
That was banana flying around AZ this afternoon. I was watching Axe Man just now and one of the logger's was eating a banana and tossed the peel...poor banana, he gets no respect
May 18th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
@kate -- I'll BEE in Seattle/Tacoma for the Memorial day weekend and come back the following weekend.
I hope I don't run into your in-laws.
Congrats on finishing the wagon!
I'd BEE interested in seeing pictures!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:35 pm

May 18th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
I had some ODD pictures to share but it didn't work.
May 18th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
kate: Well, I was hoping that you guys might find at least one ODD item on the menu among your big party!!
If not, that's OK.
BananaFysh: Oh that big head of yours! Keyword banana!! Haha! Worship The Fruit! Speaking of which, I saw another fruit story but I cannot, and I refuse, to overuse the WTF in the headline!!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Rod's Big Bro: I think some women can BEE hypocritical. It's all fine and dandy to just buy that item regardless of coupons, deals IF it is for them. Anything else, on the other hand, probably is best discussed with the significant other first.
I totally like that idea of the thought at that moment. You must BEE a romantic.
anklebiters: Yes, I BEElieve you did skip a music day so THANK YOU! Gonna listen to some tunes soon!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
chawan–cut: First you had BananaFysh stalking at you at some game and now you got a blogger checking out your butt! Heh heh.
Speaking of which, I just signed up for Twitter if anyone's on there...
May 18th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
@Shauna -- Ah, in denial I see.
All I know is, you keep running ODD stories about bananas. That's all the evidence I need.
haha!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Shauna, you got mail.
May 18th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
M: Got the e-mail with the pictures! First I was like, "WTF?!?!" Then I READ the explanation and was like, "Oh, I see." I probably can use since it's not really the kind...
Thanks!
May 18th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
@Shauna -- OMG, you signed up on Twitter?
Here we go, let the stalking commence.
Don't say I didn't warn you!
May 18th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
shauna.. we'll make sure to have an ODD item on the menu if we have to cook it up ourselves..
have you thought of a name for the Out-liers, maybe the ROO or WOO?
really outer islanders or way outer islanders, or way out O&E'rs..
good pull L10pc, are you a Steely Dan fan, or just a drive-by shooter..
here's a guud one shauna.. try google the origin of the band's name..
May 18th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Shauna, that was a funny response. You think I would send you that kind of pictures? hahaha
May 18th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Now I'm curious as to what kind of pictures M sent.
Shauna: Can I send you a picture of the wagon so you can forward it to Banana? He helped me with it so I want him to see the final product.
May 18th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
uncle jimmy: Haha! I like Way Out O&Ers... Makes you guys sound ODDer than the rest!
But mayBEE we can keep thinking of some cool names. And thank you for making sure there is an ODD item on the menu! Will BEE looking forward to it!
BananaFysh: It appears you have to approve your followers. So if I see any strange hybrid pictures of a banana and a fish, I'll know to DENY the person!
And stop your hypothesizing you big banana head! Wait, that sounds kinda weird...
M: Yes, those pictures are just scandalous!! I'll hold off on showing the others just yet... Such a tease!
May 18th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
Shauna:
What would bee considered an ODD food item exactly? What you may find ODD, I may not. I mean, you don't even eat shrimp! Would you consider crayfish ODD?
May 18th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
kate: Yup, I can send him the photo... BTW, are you going to join our MySpace society?
Then you can put all kind pictures up to share with The Hive...
http://www.myspace.com/queenbeeofoddsandends
May 18th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
@Shauna -- Hey don't worry about me, I'm not on Twitter. I don't even update my Facebook status.
As far as my hypothesis goes, all I know is what I see.
haha!
Hey, make sure you send me the right pics now! It's the ones of the wagon, and not whatever freaky thing M sent you! haha!
May 18th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
uncle jimmy won't make me try something ODD now, would he?
I don't like oysters...
May 18th, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Shauna:
I bookmarked the secret place when you told me about it but haven't done anything yet. Will do something soon when things slow down.

May 18th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Good evening-I don't know if I can make Turd Tuesday. I have a meeting at the Fasi building at 9:30, don't know how long it will bee. I'll try to hustle to Pasta Basta by 11:45 I think.......took the day off today: walked with the boy in Waikiki this morning, hiked Diamond Head and swam a mile in Waikiki. Cooked up some ribeye's for dinner, couple of beers, feeling really, really good.....!
Have a nice weekend M and Masako, that sounds great.
May 18th, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Anklebiters:
Can you telecommute or do you have a job that requires you to bee in the office? I can remote in to my office and work at home if I chose to. It's just easier for me to go in beecause that way I don't have to bring home files.
May 18th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
anklebiters: Thanks for that Twitter article. Great!
We'll see how this works. Like anything, you can always hit delete and move on!
May 18th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Evening all!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still don't understand that tweet and twit thing. Need to get my son to do that so he can teach me. Yes, it's gotten to that. I even heard some songs on the "oldies" radio station that I loved in high school and college.
May 18th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
teejay: Looks like you're able to post fine now! You said twit! Don't know why that made me laugh!
Yes, have your son teach you all the new technology trends.

May 18th, 2009 at 10:09 pm

(Banana: Try to resist and say no!
)
Scott: Yes, make the most of what little time you have left.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Scott:
Hope you can make it tomorrow. When are you planning to leave?
May 18th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
@che -- Thanks! I've been to Seattle a bunch of times. It's a really beautiful place. Not as nice as Hawaii, but nice.
Nah, it's different. Cool to go out of the city and check out all the trees along the way!
A few years ago I went to Mt. St. Helens. That was unreal. It's hard to comprehend how extensive the damage was unless you see it first hand.
You should go one summer! They have casin0s there too.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
@Ynaku -- I still gotta work one more day, so one full day of blogging!
I'll try and stay in touch and post from time to time. As long as I can find a hotspot.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
BananaFysh: What?? ONLY one more full day of blogging? Where's the love?? Kidding! Go enjoy your vacation and abandon me and The Hive.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
@Ukuhead -- Shoots. My address is 55 Mahalani St., Wailuku.
Just come by whenever.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
@Shauna -- No worry, Ukuhead going have his own room.
Hey, BEE thankful I'll check in during my vacation!
Such an ingrate!
May 18th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
I try to cut out Sunday coupons to save money, but then I end up forgetting the darn things. I have a better chance of seeing an ad in like Walgreens and specifically cutting it in the store!
Even though I cut out coupons for stuff I like, sometimes I think I should be using coupons for a brand just cuz its on sale. I have no problem buying generic for most things. I do have a problem with buying food from the 99cent store tho... that just makes me nervous.
I would buy the entertainment book, thinking ohhhh such a good investment, I can save so much money.... BAH I always end up wasting most of it.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
I usually try to sign up for frequent buyer cards! Bahahah same thing like the Sunday coupons though... don't always have it on me... uhmmm can I have another card? hehe...
Grocery store cards? Yah, I try to get those too... try to keep um in the wallet, but again... may not have it with me... *sigh*... thankfully you can normally just give your email or phone number! hee hee..
My feeling is... if I can save anything, it works for me... it'll save me money to buy something else! I will admit,I'm a sucker for those fake coupons too.. oh well...
Right now it really is a shoppers paradise yah? Boy if I had the money, I'd be shopping up a storm...... travelling like a gypsy..... and buying houses to flip and make more money! hehe... saw some great deals in LV! GAHHHH!!! hehe... no coupons for the real estate there tho... darn...
May 18th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
WOW, watching the lady haggle on Inside Edition! damn... she's guuuud! I can't do that! I'm terrible at haggling.... and that's at the swap meet or places where people always haggle!
May 18th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
@Uku-whenever I sell my house.....2 weeks notice, then we're gone. My best estimate is late July-August. With regard to Turd Tuesday..if I can get the coveted 4 hour pass from my Directors office, I can get parking at R. Row. Good chance I'll bee there
No Shauna
May 18th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
HNL2LAS: Hey girl! You always crack me up as usual! Haggling is a whole other issue. I totally can't do the bargain thing. I don't like to appear cheap though I like coupons. Haha!! Though I shouldn't feel that way cause the person you're bargaining with is probably ripping you off anyway!
Regarding the grocery club cards, sometimes it's an old number and you totally forget which one it was. The good workers usually just let you use the guest card so you can still get the discount! And the theory of saving to buy something else works for me.
BananaFysh: OK, whatever you say on the sleeping arrangements. We don't need the details! And you overuse the word ingrate that it doesn't mean anything anymore!!
May 18th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Scott: We hope to have a big get together in July when kate is back in town. That timing will hopefully work for you so we can all party with you for one final time! So sad!!
Good night!
May 18th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Bhahhaa.. yah luckily the grocery store workers usually swipe that guest one like you said.. hehe... what I save 5 cents??? AWRIGHT! hehe..
You know.. seriously.. the foreclosures in LV are astounding. I saw a house that was $114,900 and I while I was checking it out on another site, the price dropped to 94,000!!! Holy crap! Large property with a pool... problem is, it got totally trashed. But heck, even with all the improvements, you'd still have a major deal of a house! I sooo wish I had the moola.... hehehe like everyone else of course...
May 18th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Hey, I don't think I can make it to Turd Tuesday tomorrow. I'd love to, but hehe I guess I haven't used my coupons the way I should BEE... I have no money! Spent a bunch at the Book and music festival this weekend, uhmmm $$ that I shouldn't have spent... *SIGH*
May 18th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
@HNL2LAS -- I hate carrying around all those cards too so I did a "work around." You know how they give you the "keychain version" of the cards too? I take those and I use clear packing tape to "laminate" a bunch of them together, so I have 3 little cards in the space of one regular card. I have like 6 of the taped together to save some space in my wallet.
May 18th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
good evening HIVE!
i use coupons when i remember to cut them out and also remember to use them! i probably use those coupons from costco the most, then maybe the ones from macy's. drives me crazy when i have to coupon in my purse and forget to use it!
kate - thanks for the heads up on the nordstrom's sale! i have my eye on a pair of sandals and i'm hoping they will be on sale! last year, they had my favorites on sale for cheap!
ukuhead - sorry, i'm not going to be able to make it to lunch tomorrow. i've been sick (just a cold... no piggy flu or H1N1 stuff!) since friday and i don't know if i'm going to work tomorrow (even if i do go in, i don't want to spread my germs and think i might be too tired anyway).
qb - i think my cold has eaten my brain.
in the last post, you asked if i had a busy weekend and i can't even remember what i did on saturday! my son had a concert on friday night... then saturday is a blur!?
hsib - thanks for the info on the waterless chai! sounds good... i think i gotta try it next time... plus, i'll get in a serving of milk!
okay, gotta go back to sleep! good night and good morning HIVE!
*hmm... maybe i need that ginko today!!*
May 18th, 2009 at 11:14 pm

I guess I do.
But if the sh0e fits .....
HAHAHA!!!
May 18th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Uncle Jimmy - sorry so late w/ reply... I used to listen to Steely Dan a lot during that period. Liked "Do It Again", "Rikki, Don't Lose That Number" and "Peg" a lot too.
Actually, I was a major Top 40 fan and used to listen to the radio a lot during the 70's from elementary school thru the beginning of college. Uh-oh, I think I'm dating myself
May 18th, 2009 at 11:30 pm

Queenie - you signing off for da night? k-den......g'nite!
May 18th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
Okay-back on topic...
I always look at the coupon sections in the Sunday paper - sometimes can get a double off when the item goes on sale and then there a coupon for it in the paper - Score!
Read somewhere (maybe in one of the blogs) that you should save the coupons that you get in the Sunday paper because the items tend to go on sale a month later in the stores. Keep forgetting to save them to see if that theory is true or not.
I also have the cards from the plate lunch places that give you a free meal after getting the cards stamped after each meal. They seem to be not as popular as they used to be - got 'em at one time or another from Grace's, Ezogiku, and some other ramen places.
okay - now back to
