Can you handle this small?

March 30th, 2009 by Shauna

There’s small. And then there’s really small.

How much personal space do you need to feel comfortable? When I travel, bigger is definitely better. I just love spacious hotel bathrooms where you don’t have to angle yourself in just to shut the door. Double sinks — ooh, I can barely contain my excitement!

But with the economy not doing so well, many are finding a need to cut back. That means you can kiss that hotel suite goodbye. But one hotel is offering luxury on the cheap. There’s just one or two catches...

Would staying in a micro-hotel appeal to you?
By KRISTEN A. LEE
Associated Press Business Writer

NEW YORK — A New York hotel with luxury sheets and state-of-the-art audio for less than $100 a night? All you have to sacrifice is a bit of privacy and a little — well, a lot — of space.

Moving beyond budget accommodations to an idea that borrows from a ship’s berth or a train’s sleeper car, developers are gambling that in tough times travelers looking for a little pampering at lower prices will embrace micro-hotels.

The concept of an entire hotel room the size of a suburban bathroom has spread across Europe in recent years. And as the U.S. economy deteriorates, interest in the idea has grown, especially in high-priced markets like New York City — where there are fewer options for budget travelers.

“It’s certainly the right product for the times,” said Tom Botts, a specialist in the hotel and travel industry at Hudson Crossing, a strategic advisory firm.

The trick, says Sean MacPherson, co-developer of The Jane hotel, is to make its 150 tiny single rooms — about 7 feet wide by 8 feet long — feel “charming and special” rather than simply cramped.

With no room for extra furniture, guests at The Jane — which is opening in stages between now and the end of the summer — stash suitcases and clothing in storage spaces above and below the narrow bed. A large mirror and a small window help stave off potential claustrophobia.

The “micro-luxury” touches at what was originally, in 1908, a hotel that rented cabin-like rooms to sailors for just 25 cents a night include 350-thread count sheets, a 23-inch flat-screen LCD television, DVD player, iPod dock and free wireless Internet.

“If you stay at a hotel at any price, you have to have a sense of hospitality and luxury,” MacPherson said. That’s especially true in this economy, he added, when people are looking to get the most bang for their buck.

So, the bathroom? Alas, you’ll likely have to share two public bathrooms on each floor, which each contain a pair of tiled shower stalls and toilets. The hotel also has 150 larger — and higher-priced — “captain’s cabins” that include private bathrooms and offer a view of the Hudson River.

U.S. interest in the micro-hotel model has intensified as the economy weakens, said Bjorn Hanson, a hotel expert with New York University’s Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management.

Expensive cities and airports are the prime locations for the concept. But Hanson said but some suburban locations near industrial or research centers might also work.

So would you be interested in saving some money at the expense of sacrificing some space and privacy?

When you travel, how often do you stay in your hotel room anyway?

I’m usually torn. I love staying in “nicer” hotels (The Strip vs. Downtown in Vegas) even though I know most of the day and night is spent out and about. There’s something so inviting about coming back to a room of luxury after a long day. Plus, it’s tough to downgrade once you’ve got a taste of the “high” life...

  4. Ynaku:

    Squirt?

I think I can handle one small room by myself but not with 2 people. No can fut in private.

  5. Ynaku:

Da chili gave me da gas to stay up at least for this.

  6. Ynaku:

Nah, I neva eat da chili.

  7. Ynaku:

Hey, who dat dude in the bathroom mirror? Spooky. Oh shoots and I noticed that after midnight.

  8. Ynaku:

I better go say my prayers and go sleep. Getting delirious. Nighty Night

  9. Ray:

How did you know there was going to be a new post? When do the new posts come out?

  10. Ray:

These small rooms are not much smaller than the dorm room I stayed in for almost 7 years.

  11. BananaFysh:

D'oh! Walked away at the wrong time! :(

Oh well, thems the breaks I guess.

    Good night Ynaku!

  12. BananaFysh:

Wow, them BEE some tiny rooms!

I dunno if I would stay in a place like that. I like to spread my mess out. ;)

If I HAD to I could stay in a micro room like that, but I can't say I'd enjoy it. If I was out and about all day and just needed a place to sleep, that would work.

Forget that shared bathroom though. I want some privacy!

  13. BananaFysh:

Hm, is that a real picture of that gymnast or is that a photoshop? Can that really happen?

I'd like one of the honeyBEEs to put that to a test. ;)

"Hey, who peed on the balance beam? Oh, urine big trouble now, young lady!!"

  14. anklebiters:

Can you say golden--shower :?:

I remember a hotel room in Hiroshima being just a bit larger than that, double beds :!: There was a hotel in San Fran, King George Hotel that was out of the early 1900's - bathtub on 4 legs, stayed there one night and moved to another hotel.

Like Shauna, I prefer to stay on the strip, Luxor, Ventian, MGM...be a member of their player's club and there are deals abound.

    Ynaku:

You just missed it by one minute...you were ready to pounce on the new post

Average cost of transport consumes 3 months' pay

    Sean Holstege - Mar. 30, 2009 12:00 AM
    The Arizona Republic

Maybe you've heard of Tax Freedom Day, theoretically the date when Americans have worked enough to pay off their tax burden for the year.

Researchers have now come up with Transportation Freedom Day, the date when an average household has paid off its annual costs of getting around in a particular city.

For metro Phoenix, that day fell on March 23, but it's different for each city in the region and across the country. Tempe residents cleared the typical cost of car payments, insurance, gas, repairs and transit use on March 18. Residents in New River will keep paying until April 9.

Phoenix is in the middle of the pack for U.S. metro areas. Cheapest are San Francisco, with a March 1 freedom day, and New York (March 7). Tucson (March 30) is near the bottom.

The findings are based on research from the Center for Neighborhood Technology, an Illinois think tank that advocates sustainable urban development.

Generally, cities with the most density, shortest commutes and most transit options fared best. People in far-flung suburbs generally fare the worst.

Hi Everybody! Monday, a cold front will cool temperatures into the low to mid 70s under sunny skies. Low relative humidities and gusty conditions will lead to high fire danger. A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 3pm Monday

  17. jaydee:

To answer your question Shauna, no, I wouldn't stay in a hotel room that small. It's not that I need a lot of room but that isn't a room, that's a closet! I would get claustrophobic for sure!

  18. anklebiters:

    Shauna:

oooooooooo....saimin and PJ samwich. I don't work for cup-o-noodles or Maruchan instant ramen :!: I have my dignity to uphold. It has to be freshly made saimin, preferably egg noodle saimin with veggies, char sui, green onions, won ton, bean sprouts, slices of eggs, kamaboko, and chinese yellow mustard. Here's a picture of one way of presenting it:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/hellochris/574109875/

Can do :?:  I'll even cut your grass....oh, you don't have grass :?: That's ok, I'll tweezer the hairs off your shower walls

  19. kate:

    Good morning!

Will never sleep in that room. It's smaller than my closet which is about 6 feet by 10 feet.

  20. teejay:

    Morning all and OL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. anklebiters:

Does OL stay away completely from the blog or just read and not post :?:

  22. teejay:

ankles: I don't know, but I figure just like someone in a coma, you talk to them as if they can hear you so when they come back they still in the loop.

  23. KAN:

Good morning Teejay, Kate and Ankles and Hive (when the rest of the Hive wakes up)!

Wow, laulau, I'm a compact Japanese, and I don't think I could fit in that room. Did I mention I'm also claustrophobic?

I've stayed in small rooms (Japanese business hotels) where the bathrooms are so small I could touch both walls with outstretched arms, and where the ceilings are so short I could touch them without tippy-toeing, but that room's too small for even me. And no way on the sharing bathrooms deal. Uh-uh. I'm old enough that I want my creature comforts. I don't need a big room, but I need one bigger than that!

  24. KAN:

Ankles, when you taking off for Hawai`i?

  25. anklebiters:

    Kan:

    I'm leaving 4/15..Hawaiian.

  26. anklebiters:

    Kan:

You would never be able to deal with getting an MRI or CAT scan. :-)

  27. kate:

With kid in tow, need more room. And more than 1 TV. I think my family is spoiled BEEcause we got a Hilton timeshare and those units are like condos - bedrooms(s), bathrooms(s), full kitchen, and washer and dryer.

Last weekend we stayed at a regular hotel (took a trip to the mountains for some snow action) and my husband said, "what! only 1 tv?" The TV was important to him BEEcause of the NCAA basketball tourney.

  28. kate:

Ankles - if I drive to AZ can you smuggle me through? Oh, wait...50 lb weight limit on HAL. Forget it.

Did you know the HAL is a peanut free flight? On the last trip I took the flight attendant told the guy BEEhind me that he would have to put his trail mix away BEEcause it had peanuts. So no pb&j for you.

  29. teejay:

If I'm staying at a hotel all I need is a good bed and tv and hopefully a small refrig. Bathroom required of course but I only sleep there so no biggy. Try sleeping in a shelter half for weeks on end. A bed is a big step up along with electricty and running water of course I'm not paying rediculous prices for something like that picture above.

  30. che:

I don't mind the small rooms as much as a shared bathroom. That's smaller than the dorm rooms. I went to Japan and stayed in some nice hotels with small room but they weren't that small. If I'm on a trip where I'm out most of the day and just need the room to sleep then that would be fine.

  31. KAN:

Ankles - yeah, an MRI or CAT scan would $uck. I'd have to do all my deep-breathing anti-anxiety exercises!

Re your oyster advice from yesterday: I won't eat raw oysters. I have an uncle who got royally sick from eating raw ones. My favorite way to eat oysters is putting 'em on the hibachi until just after they open, pour lilo bit shoyu, den grind 'em. MMMMMMmmmm. Making me hongry.

  32. KAN:

Has anyone stayed at a capsule hotel in Japan? They were built for partying businessmen who missed their last train/subway home. I don't think I could handle it. It would feel too much like sleeping in a coffin!

  33. anklebiters:

    Kate:

If I were a magician I could split you in half and put you in two checkin luggages, 50lbs a peice, for free :-)

    Kan:

    The oysters were cooked :-)

  34. BananaFysh:

    Good Morning Hive!

    Oooh! Somebody cooking oysters? :D

I like mine with Lea & Perrins and some Tabasco. So ono! :D

I like um raw too. ;)

  35. bamboohouse808:

There’s small. And then there’s really small.

I SO wanna go there, but I'm trying to BEE nice for a change.

  36. BananaFysh:

I was thinking about my "Bird in the Downspout" incident the udder day. I actually HEARD IT FLAPPING IN THERE THE NIGHT BEEFORE!

I heard the banging in the gutter, but I didn't realize that it was MY DOWNSPOUT. I heard the "metallic clanging" and thought it was one of my neighbors BEEing inconsiderate.

I was getting all futless hearing this clanging ............ I was peeping through my blinds and talking to myself, I was so futless.

"Self .............. whea dat BANGING NOISE COMING FROM?" - Self
"I DUNNO! I no see nuttin!" - Udder Self (U.S)
"Is that noise coming from the gate?!?" - Self
"No can BEE! The gate is vinyl, and that's a metal clanging sound!" - U.S.
"I getting nuts! I NO KAN HEA THE TV!!!!" - Self
"Eh, JUST TURN ON THE CLOSE CAPTIONING DEN!!!" - U.S.

It stopped after a few minutes, so I just let it go.

So I thinking today, don't mynahs travel in pairs? Like couples? Sometimes I see one run over on the road, and get "da partner" looking at the SMASHED FEATHERBALL like it's WAITING FOR IT TO WAKE UP. Sometimes the "mynah widow" will screech and scream at the carcass. Just like yelling at it - "Eh, WAKE UP, STUPID!!!"

So ha come never have a mynah screeching at my downspout? I guess I had the "loser mynah" that no can find a mate. It just goes to show, even in the animal kingdom, losers get no love.

BF .................... Wondering about Mynah Relationships

  37. BananaFysh:

Hm. I guess I miss my buddy OL - I stay writing like him already!

I going go sit in the corner for a lil' bit.

    I not crying!

    That's dust in my eye.

  38. opso:

    g'morning y'all!!

yeah......i would stay there.....if was like for a business trip or stopover. but not if i'm on vacation. vacations need da BEEg room with BEEg beds and BEEg bathroom.

bbh808 - oh just go there awready! since everybody else is holding back.

  39. BananaFysh:

    Hey! It's opso! :D

I thought mayBEE you gave up the blog like OL did for Lent. :(

Hm, haven't seen much of NKHEA & snow either. Or Ukuhead.

Did everyone give up on O&E?

    :(

  40. opso:

BF - yeah......mayBEE that mynah got suckahd into doing something stoopid in return for some mynah love. but then da oddah mynah when dig out.

    hey.....wait a minute.....grrr :x

  41. opso:

BF - huh? OL gave up blogging for lent? sheesh.....where da hell have i BEEn? i bettah go read the older posts.

nah......just BEEn BEEzy lately. as for the ODDahs? hmm....

  42. BananaFysh:

@opso - Eh, I wasn't talking about you! Wait - you never get stuck in a downspout recently, huh? ;)

    I keed, I keed.

Hm, I still wonder how dat buggah wound up in there.

"Babe, try grab that piece of straw by that puka." -- Mynah1
"Huh? What? Try wait, I stay BEE-zy!" -- Mynah 2
"You know, I no ask you for much! I BEEn building this nest ALL DAY, and you no can even grab me dat ONE PIECE OF STRAW for me?!?" -- Mynah1
"SHEESH! K-DEN! I go get um! ............... Eh, this thing stay stuck! MayBEE if I stand with my feet on either side of the puka, I can pull um out .... okay, stay coming out ..... I get um, I get um .......... WHOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!" *clang clang* -- Mynah2
    "Babe, you okay?" -- Mynah1
"WHAT CHOO T'INK!?!?!? I STAY STUCK DOWN THIS PUKA!! I not okay! I no can move my wings! I know, I know, try lower that piece of straw down the puka to me, and I grab um with my beak, and you pull me up, okay?" -- Mynah2
"Oh, you know what, I forgot I was supposed to meet Gladys-dem by the highway. Dey said had plenny plastic straps over there. I go get some and help you when I come back." -- Mynah1
"Wait, WHAT?!?! Come back! Eh COME BACK! STARTING TO RAIN! I NO CAN SWIM!!!" -- Mynah2

  43. BananaFysh:

    @opso - I guess so - that's what he said. He hasn't BEEn posting..... :(

  44. Ynaku:

    Good Morning,

Sorry so late. Had to unload truck from last night's pahty. Woke up li'li bit late cause I wanted to snipe #1.

Ankles, took me almost 1 minute to type 1st? Plus had to keep refreshing da screen. RSS too slow.

  45. Ynaku:

Whoa BF, I can just hear that conversation going.

  46. Ynaku:

    I miss my bruddah OL.

You know? If he can do it maybe so can I.

It's BEEn nice knowing you guys.

  47. Ray:

    @Bananafysh

You're such a nice person for helping the mynah. I'm sure the whole mynah family is greatful. Such good deeds don't go unrewarded. HOWEVER, in your case, it probably makes up for some of the rotten things you do.

  48. Shauna:

    Good morning!!

BananaFysh: Wow, that was some great fictitious conversation in the spirit of our Ocean Lover! And I didn't even get to tell you my thoughts on that story from two posts ago. It cracked me up when you said something about you BEEing an expert in carcasses!! I can picture you reaching for the birds' legs with plastic bags! I give you credit for even doing that!! Gross! Scary! So if mynahs really travel in pairs, wonder if that second one really is down there...

  49. NEO:

I wouldn't mind that small hotel room, I mean I work aboard the USS Missouri and sleep aboard this ship often. That room is about the size of the Sr. Officer quarters aboard... so for me, no problem... That ODD image is pretty funny although I don't think it would fly here in the US... just something about catching a MINOR peeing in midair is just kinda messed up...

    NEO

  50. Shauna:

kate: Wow, I'm jealous! Your closet is bigger than that room? :D

teejay: That's the funny thing about the military. All those "hardships" you go through make everything else seem like a luxury. You should teach your son that. Haha! :)

  51. doofus:

  52. Shauna:

    #51!!! :D

  53. BananaFysh:

@Ray - Whatchoo mean "rotten things?" I no not of which you speak!

I is a good boy.

Why, just this morning, I found a BEEg heart on my driveway made of mynah bird poop. I think someone is trying to tell me something. ;)

  54. Shauna:

doofus!!!! Dang Word Press told me I was moving too fast!!!

opso: Yeah, where have you BEEn lately? Thought you were abandoning O&E also! :( I thought we were pseudo Heineken buddies! ;)

NEO: Wait a minute, are you sleeping on the job?? Kidding! Your point about the gymnast photo does make me wonder if BananaFysh got it right (again??) about it BEEing photoshopped...

  55. BananaFysh:

Whoops! I mean, "I know not of which you speak."

  56. Shauna:

jaydee: A lot of people are claustrophobic so I really do wonder how well these micro hotels are going to do... But then again, if you only sleep there and are out the rest of the time, then possibly it wouldn't BEE as bad!

Ynaku: Yeah, I didn't notice that dude in the bathroom mirror!!! Creepy!! It's like those haunted places that have those huge portraits on the wall and you wonder if the eyes are looking at you!! And no, YOU are not leaving!! So I'm not going to say "it was nice knowing you" back to you!!

Ray: Fist bump!!! BananaFysh and the rotten things he does!!

  57. Shauna:

KAN: I'm totally with you on not having to share a public bathroom!! I hate having to turn in circles just to move about a place. Speaking of hotel bathrooms, I gotta ask. Are you the type to put away all your toiletries, especially your toothbrush, when you get maid service? ;)

che: Those rooms that you stayed at in Japan, did they have a private bathroom? BTW, why are the rooms in Japan so small? Is the price cheaper BEEcause of it?

  58. BananaFysh:

@Shauna - How rude! What "rotten things" are you talking about?

Are you talking about the time I sent you a bird carcass in the mail?

Oh wait, I didn't do that one yet. hee hee hee ;)

I think the second mynah bagged out on the one stuck in the downspout. Although I suppose it could BEE stuck up in there too.... hmmm

eeep! I guess I'd better check that downspout for more legs sticking out of it.

  59. anklebiters:

    KAN:

I've had 5 MRIs plus a CAT scan...I fell asleep a few times while in the machine, even with all that banging going on

  60. KAN:

    I is a good boy.

Assumes facts not in evidence, counsel.

(j/k! Don't send me any dead birds!!!)

  61. KAN:

Holy cats Ankles! I think they'd have to send me into those procedures with a paper bag to prevent my hyperventilating!

  62. KAN:

@ Shauna: nope, I don't put toiletries away in preparation for a maid's visit. I will sometimes tidy slightly (nobody should have to touch dirty kleenex or hair in the drain except me), but I'm far too lazy to clean everything when someone else is paid (and I'm tipping) for someone else to clean!

  63. teejay:

Shauna: My son is too spoiled with his mom taking him on all those "Disney" trips. I should lock him outside one night and let him learn about mosquitoes and cold wind and rain.

  64. NKHEA:

    Mornin everybody :)

I still BEE around ;) just really BEEze at work and some ada stuffs :)

As for the small rooms, I would stay for work butt not when on vacation. We almost do dat already working on the outer islands. I get up BEEfore everyone else so da bathroom tingy no bother me to much ;) :)

    Da ODD image 8O

    NKHEA...back to work

  65. KAN:

Banana: another mynah possibility we hadn't thought of: maybe mynah #2 was Bananabyrd, the ever-present practical joker. Maybe a reincarnated relative of yours?

  66. ottotman:

I cannot share small bathroom with two people. I hate to keep calling 911 for the other guy. I no do CPR if he just pass out

  67. anklebiters:

Twiddling thumbs.....la dee da....whistling....where is that NKHEA jet :?:

  68. Rod's Big Bro:

    Hi Shauna,
Did anyone say you look like Yasmin Dar on the Morning News?

Now that I'm single I can handle a room downtown, plenty space instead of sharing with ex and her mom. But, refuse to fly coach any more, "First Class" only, cause now it's cheaper and more enjoyable as I only need to pay for myself and not for 2 or 3 people.

Don't like to share bathroom with others, had my share in High School when P.E. was mandatory for 4 years and you had to shower. Small room is cool, but need at least 2 free outlets for all the techie stuff (Phone, bluetooth, computer, and hub). Dang, life was so much easier without cell phones.

And what's da scoop, MLC & WWD on vacation, you the only one posting and keeping us reading and typing so Alzhiemer don't set in, Thank You.

  69. che:

    Shauna,

The rooms in Japan were small but they had their own bathroom with the toilets that shoots water. I feel in love with those tiolets but that's another story. The bathrooms were big with a shower and furo. The beds were small. If you are over 6 feet tall then your legs probably hung over the edge. I don't know the price of the rooms because it was a tour but they were suppose to be good size room for Japan but they were smaller than rooms at the California Hotel in Vegas.

  70. Kage:

That room is too small for me. I think I would fall off that bed in the middle of the night.

Sharing the bathroom is out of the question too. Only TWO stalls!! Is that for the whole floor? How many rooms on the floor? No can. Especially if the prior occupant ate chili for dinner.....

BF - you too good. Jus take care of da carcass, yeah? Did you hear that bird couple conversation? Remember the pink pills will help with that, only kidding.

  71. Eli:

The room size doesn't really matter to me as long as I have a bed to sleep on but I want my own bathroom. Don't want to share with everyone on the same floor.
That guy in the mirror is freaky. It reminded me of an article I read over the weekend about a tourist in Scotland who took a picture of a castle and later found out there was a ghost standing by the window. MayBEE it was photoshopped but it was ODD and freaky.

  72. BananaFysh:

@KAN - Hm, I never considered the fact that my mynah fried was the victim of a practical joke. :D

"Eh, try look down there! Get one chick with no feathers!"
    "Whea? Whea? Whea?!?!?"
    *nudge*
    "AIYEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"
    "Hehehehehe"
    ;)

Hm, I guess in the end, it turned out okay. Only mynah injuries.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
    Oh, I kill myself.

  73. BananaFysh:

whoops! I meant my "mynah friend. I no eat dat kine bird!

But if I did, would probably BEE fried. ;)

  74. ottotman:

That story by BananaFysh is hilarious. I think I like him very much. He is #1 EST in my book. BestEST, funniEST, etc

  75. opso:

Queenie - ouchee! i go afk/mia for a few days and you thot i was abandoning O&E? *sigh*

"it buuurns!! it buuurns!!" *said in Regan speak from The Exorcist*

gosh......don't you know me by now? i tend to BEE afk every so often. and not EVEN as bad as SOME peeps *cough*munch*cough* who i shall not mention.

    must i report on:
    every move i make?
    every step i take?
you'll BEE watching  me?

  76. snow:

hi hi hive!! sorry, been awol for a bit. speaking of staying in nice hotels, my husband and i stayed in waikiki for the weekend at our timeshare. talk about getting spoiled... right ynaku? the rooms there are super nice and all have kitchens and living rooms. once we started staying at the timeshares, we didn't want to stay at hotels! even if we don't stay in the room much, it's nice to have room to stretch out and relax. anyway, we played tourist while my son is away in japan! hope he's having as much fun as m and masako!

but then... depending on the situation, i think i could stay in that room if only for sleeping! i don't mind the sharing bathroom arrangement if women have their own and men have their own, but not if it's long term. however, everything is so crazy expensive nowadays... a small room and a shared bathroom is way better than not having any roof over your head... so i suppose it depends on your life perspective and what your priorities are. if you don't spend much on the room you would have more money for other things, right?

  77. BananaFysh:

    Good Afternoon Hive! :)

Yesterday was a free day and we went to Ueno park by train to see the sakura. We walked around the whole park looking at all the sakura. It was sooo pretty. Lots of people just walking around and taking pictures. We walked past the next train station to Akihabara and shopped along the way.

Today the tour ends and leaving the hotel to the airport this afternoon. We are staying back till Friday evening so we still have lots of adventures ahead.

Casual Friday? Florida city employee accused of getting naked
    By Brittany Wallman
    Sun Sentinel

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A city employee is accused of stripping down to his socks and exposing himself to a female co-worker earlier this year. The co-worker said he flashed a sign that said “It’s Friday” on one side, and “Let’s get naked” on the other.
And then, she said, he did.
Now he’s a former city employee.
David Daley resigned last month as Fort Lauderdale’s safety coordinator. His co-worker, Daniela Metz, told police Daley took his clothes off — everything but the socks.
The incident was considered a possible “lewd/lascivious” act, which would be a misdemeanor, city police records say. But Metz signed a waiver of prosecution, writing she was “not looking to get anybody in any more trouble.” Reached at work Monday, she declined comment.
Daley couldn’t be reached for comment, despite a call to his home.
Here’s what the police report said about the incident, which was first reported last week in the South Florida Times:
Metz, 36, and Daley, 42, were co-workers in public works. In mid-January, Metz said she was on the computer looking at body waxes. Daley asked her what she was doing, and she told him. When she passed by his office later, he called her in. He had pictures of naked women on his computer “that had done a Brazilian wax to themselves,” the police report says.
The following week, she was on the scale, and she said he told her, “You should come into my office and weigh yourself without your clothes,” to which she said she responded, “Not nice.” He passed her a note later that day. It said, “Will you still be my friend?”
That Friday, she alleges, the two were alone in the office when he stopped in her doorway with a sign that read, “It’s Friday.” They chatted about the weekend, and as he walked out, he said, “You didn’t see the other side of my sign.”
It said, “Let’s get naked,” she told police.
He returned to his office and called to her: “I will do it if you do it.”
    “Go ahead,” she responded.
He came around the corner of her office, exposing a shoulder, and she said she told him over and over again to go away.
He left and came back, then left again. Then he came back completely naked except for his socks.
She covered her eyes, and when he came back with his clothes on, he said he was just joking. When officials found out about it, Daley was put on administrative leave, and he resigned Feb. 2, city spokesman Jeff Modarelli said.

  131. BananaFysh:

    @snow

as long as you don't do that in public...

    Whatchu talking about, Willis?

Hey, you dropped this tarnished, dented, bent hoop here. Oh wait, is this supposed to BEE a halo? It looks like an old wire hanger!

  132. Shauna:

ottotman: Oh yeah, welcome to O&E!! If you ate chili today, we are not spilling the beans today!

che: So I always wondered how those toilets that shoot water work. I understand it's warm water. But exactly where is the water coming from? Sorry to have you explain such an awkward topic! No shame and BEE as detailed as you like.

    New number is: #155

  133. Shauna:

teejay: Sorry, this line just cracked me up! In all fairness to the "Odd" picture of the day, if I did that back flip I think I would wet myself also. I think we're all trying to add a little OL to our speech! I think he would BEE proud of us. *sniff sniff*

Kage: You would fall off the bed in the middle of the night?? Haha! Exactly what do you do when you sleep? Kidding!! And yeah, it would suck to enter the public bathroom stall after someone ate chili. Though wouldn't it BEE worse if that tiny bathroom was in your closet-size room? Hope someone remembers to bring the doodoo drops!

Eli: Hmm...castles are pretty ancient structures and who knows what kind of mayhem occurred in there over the years? But then again, you could do so much with computers that you never know what's real or not anymore... I need to send you an invitation to the "SecretPlace" soon so you can see what I'm talking about in terms of computerized images...

  134. Shauna:

Ukuhead: You've BEEn lurking at night just to see the banana playing with himself?? You voyeur! Kidding!

opso: Check, check, check in regards to:
    must i report on:

    you'll BEE watching  me?

KAN: BananaByrd!!! LOL! That's a good one!

  135. anklebiters:

    Shauna:

Hey, that was me with the chili and I AM spilling the beans, sort of, if you know what I mean  Gotta chill, BEE back l8rs :!:

Go to your local Lowe's store, they usually have one of those water works toilet's on display. Sure saves toilet paper

  136. Shauna:

snow: Haha ... on all the "ODD newBEEs here!! or maybe we have a lot of new ODDBEEs here... or is it a lot of OLD ODDBEEs????" We have a lot of new friends!! Me so excited! ;) And fist bump on: Koala & ottotman - "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

opso: Armed robbery!!! LOL! *barrump bump* — that's a good one! :D

anklebiters: Oh, so that Darren singer broke away from the other group? Sorry to hear you're still stuck at the airport!

NKHEA: Don't BEE too BEEzy to keep playing the word game!!

  137. ottotman:

  138. Jack:

  139. BananaFysh:

I'll have to remember that.

  140. Koala:

shaaauuuuunaaa! why did you think of me when U saw that story???????? eeeeeew! SO GROSS if one of my co-workers took off all his cloths in front of me i wuld wack his thing with a ruler or a stapler! eeeeew!!!!!!!!!! nasty!!
pls dont hink about me like that shauna! just take me to tsukijis and all will b good. yay! =oD

  141. ottotman:

Koala, Why are they picking on us. I'm new here. Where's the love?

  142. masako:

Hi Hive - Since we Usually only use the room for sleeping, size doesn't really matter. I rather spend the money on other things. In Japan the rooms are usually small in the city but the one we have right now in Tokyo is not bad. Maybe its because the area we are staying in has nothing to do. You have to take a train to go anywhere. Although its close to the station I think next time I would stay somewhere else.
Timeshares are great, On a trip to Disneyland we were able to share one with M's brothers family. We went marketing and had breakfast in the timeshare each morning and was able to cook dinner a few times. We had three bedrooms plus a huge living room so everyone had lots of space.

  143. masako:

    Why am I in moderation?

  144. Masako:

    :)

  145. Masako:

is it because of the email address?

  146. Masako:

okie thats why my post went into moderation, still had M's email address

  147. teejay:

C0hiba: What happened to "your" Journey concert or did it happen yet? Give me the scoops when you can.

  148. Koala:

i dont kno Y i'm being picked on ether!
i just wanted to look at pics of yummy sushi! now shauna thinks about me when she reeds abuot naked peeps in the oofice! SO GROSSSSSSS! EEEEEEWWW!! =o(

Queenie - i just put a load of laundry in the washer.

  155. teejay:

My son fell asleep while reading since he woke up right after I left this morning. I told him not to get up at 0400 but he was so excited to stay over that he didn't listen.

  156. ottotman:

But you DON'T KNOW me?????????????????????????????? I think

  157. BananaFysh:

@opso - Interesting that Queenie wants you to do the things mentioned in the song you quoted. A song sung by Sting.

Shauna - "Oh, was that a song? I didn't know that!"
opso & BF - *slaps foreheads*
Shauna - "Are there more mosquitoes here? Whaaat?"

  158. BananaFysh:

@teejay - hey, you got the last lucky number! :D

    What's the next one?

0400!?!! Dang! I go sleep at around that time some nights/mornings. ;)

  159. C0hiba:

    Good afternoon Hive!

@teejay, concert was last night. The wind slowed so was slightly breezy but acceptable. The little that I saw was super. Arnel "Mahalo" "Mabuhay" Pineda (as he introduced himself) moved with so much energy, like a young Steve Perry. Great voice.
I was running around most of the night, legs feel like jelly today.
Close to a sell out, pretty good considering it was a Sunday night.
If I were to take a drug test today, pretty sure wouldn't pass after inhailing the second hand "herbal" smoke.

  160. Ukuhead:

    Koala:
So, a naked Shauna grosses you out?

    For me, meh...

I'm sure bamboo has something to say about it.

  161. opso:

BF - haha! i can soooo picture that scenario! seems like every time we get together.....there's multiple incidents of this.

our eyeballs going BEE stuck permanently like this →

Queenie - i put the laundry in the dryer.

  162. opso:

C0hiba - second hand smoke huh? um.....okay
    puna butter? kona gold? heh

eh......i get your "board meeting" sign that NKHEA told me you wanted.

  163. teejay:

C0hiba: Sweet!!!!!! Glad to see it went well, although I think Honolulu's extended performance took some wind out of Kona's sails. You must have been feeling good with that local blend in the air. Did it make you want a twinkie or crave a cohiba?

  164. teejay:

BF: I got a lucky number?!?!?!?!?!
Next lucky number is 189 (kinda like a 69 with an 88 rolled into one).

  165. Eli:

Shauna: "Secret place?" Sounds so intriguing...let me in...let me in. :) Do I need to learn a secret handshake too? :P

  166. Shauna:

opso: What's this with the laundry updates?? BTW, is that a new emoticon? The mouth also moves? Don't remember that from BEEfore...

  167. teejay:

Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!! I just saw a commercial with Rachael Ray and talk about stuffing. Where and when did she get so fat. 30 minute meals was suppose to be how long it took to cook a meal and not how long your face was in the pot licking the frosting off the sides.

  168. snow:

ottotman - i think you already "outed" yourself! heh heh.

  169. snow:

*wacks ukuhead upside the... growth on the top of his neck*

hey, watchu talking about our qb without clothes on? naughty! i mean, yes, we already know that you're naughty... but still... naughty!!

  170. snow:

bananafysh - moi? you know i would never say anything bad!! hey, what did you do to my halo???!! you made it all rusted!!

  171. KAN:

I got him reading now for one hour and will test him later on what he read.

It's called "trust AND verify," Teej.

  172. KAN:

    SSSSSNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!

*still wondering about ukuhead's blessing... *

    FISTBUMP :!: :!: :!:

  173. KAN:

Teejay re Rachael Ray: I think she's happy and married, which sometimes results in weight gain. Mind you, I'm not defending her - I can't stand her. But she does good stuff, so I'm willing to cut her some slack. Dude, you need to watch more Alton Brown.

  174. teejay:

Thanks KAN for the clarification. He read 15 "very short chapters" and I told him to read the same amount tomorrow. One hour of reading can do wonders for a child.
Think about how much time we all spend reading the Queen's blog and you all will change you mind.

  175. teejay:

KAN: I love Alton Brown and watch "Good Eats" all the time. He brings both info and entertainment without being like Emeril, Paula or god forbid Giada with the ET eyes but nice rack...... of lamb.

  176. Ray:

    Snow:
Geeez.... I was only trying to clarify what Koala said.

Hmmm seems to be hitting close to home... :???:

  177. Ynaku:

Dang it snow. I caught myself but TOO LATE.

I quit. SHUANA!!!!! I QUIT THIS STUFF!!!!!!!!!

I guess ottotman blew his last gas.

  178. Ukuhead:

  179. Ynaku:

There. Look what you made me do....................Shuana..............

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  :x

I going heat up my chili and add double beans. Just to relieve stress.

SHE MADE ME DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  180. Ynaku:

Ch0hiba, I still wished I could have gone to the concert. I had an anniversary party to take care of this weekend.

When I saw wind gusting 30 mph 8O whoa, which way was the wind blowing? Toward the stage? Maybe that's why the Manong was high.

  181. snow:

teejay - i totally agree about the reading! i read a lot as a child but my (step)son had a total aversion to reading when i first met him (talk about someone being habuteru... you should have seen his face when i'd remind him to read!). luckily, his school required them to read 25 books or periodicals a year, so i really pushed the books.

even though my son is in high school now and doesn't have to read for school, i still make him read one hour a day, as his schedule permits. he still has to make up time or, depending on how his week was, i'll cut him some slack. he's actually found some books that he's loved along the way! he also liked odyssey, a science magazine by cricket, so much that we subscribed - maybe your son might like that? (sorry, teejay. i forgot how old your son is - the magazine is for 10 -15 year olds.)

  182. snow:

KAN - *fist bump!* heh heh...

Ynaku - and i thought i was confused!! lol... sorry, i didn't realize you were outing so many people! ha ha!

  183. Ukuhead:

    SSSSSNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!

*still wondering about ukuhead's blessing... *

    FISTBUMP

To know me is to love me

  184. KAN:

Whoa, Ynaku, your Lent resolution didn't last for too long, huh? (j/k). Good thing - if both you AND OL went AWOL (there's a bad joke there somewhere - Banana?) Shauna would get a lot fewer posts even with all the ODD (ostensible) newBEEs.

Maybe that's why the Manong was high.

You talking about you or Arnel? And you talking about his voice or his, uhm, consciousness?

  185. KAN:

To know me is to love me

That's a pleasure all the better for having been foregone.

  186. teejay:

    SNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW!!!! (Just giving OL props).

Thanks for the mom advice. Glad to see you went from "step" son to son. I don't believe in that "step" crap. If you give your love and hard work you are not a "step mom" you are a MOM!!!! Although if my son's mom got remarried her husband will never be a step dad or any dad to my son (funny how that works out).
My son is going to be eleven next month and him reading James Patterson is a good thing. I give him huge books so that he doesn't or won't feel "War and Peace" or "A Tale of Two Cities" is an epic.
Your son will appreciate it later in life and especially in college. Reading is a lost indulgence which has been replaced by "reality tv" and that sucks the big one. I could give a book to each hive member based on personality and I guarantee they would love the book and recommend it to friends.

  187. Ynaku:

KAN, I was talking about Arnel. I think his pants was on too tight. Das why he probably was hopping all ova da place.

Good thing i no do lent. SINNER. Forgive me father for I have sinned.

  188. Shauna:

    #188!

  189. Shauna:

    and #189!!!

  190. Shauna:

teejay: Give us an example of some titles you would give to certain Hive members... this should BEE interesting. :D

    Next lucky number: #222

  191. teejay:

Shauna: The hive members have to tell me what they like as far as genre is concerned but I'll give you some "for instance". I need to bring up my novel spreadsheet that I have so I don't buy the same book three or four years later.

  192. teejay:

Shauna: I need what genre peeps like. I have some 400 plus books so I think I can match some hive members. I'm going sleep soon though and my son has to go back to his mom tomorrow due to a doctors appointment which I just found out about five minutes ago. Bitch.

  193. Shauna:

teejay: I like scandal!! ;) And you say bitch like it's a bad thing! Kidding!

  194. teejay:

Queenie: you can always make me smile when I'm grimacing, that's why I love you. Keep up the hive and queenly things. I don't know what you mean by scandal but I hope it does regard me and my ex.

  195. snow:

teejay - lol @ props to OL! you did a good imitation! i normally don't refer to my son as my stepson... i usually only do it to clarify the situation! i agree with you on the "step" bit... i don't believe in that either! my son doesn't refer to me as his stepmom... he just calls me his mom. :) aww... too bad your son has to go back to his mom tomorrow... kinda sucks that you only just found out about the appointment! i'd be pissed... !! about the novels, it would be interesting if you guessed what genre certain BEEs (not the ODD ones... ha!) would like!

  196. teejay:

    Snnooooooooooooowwwwwwwww!!!!!!!

I have some good stories for you all but the queen's blog is funky and I gotta go sleep soon. You and the rest of the musketeers are some of the few female authors. BF is the other female author.

  197. opso:

hahaha!! Ynaku pulled a ukuhead!!

    next? ;)

  198. opso:

teejay - 400 books?! sheesh.....i no think i get even 20.

i like mystery and espionage......and the other aspects that comes with it. iykwim ;)

  199. Ynaku:

opso, I busted myself didn't I? That's what I get for posting elsewhere.

I think more easy I join OL.

Abstain my son. Do it in moderation. Bless you my son. In the name of mighty Heinie Lite. I shall absolve you of your sins. AMEN!

Sheesh at least I not in the Philippines and whip myself to a bloody mess.

  200. opso:

snow - it's great that your stepson calls you "mom". you must BEE really good and nurturing towards him. good job! *fist bump* :D

  201. opso:

Ynaku - yeah.....jalike when we used to put our "status" next to our names and forget to change em when posting on other blogs. doh!

Queenie - oh yeah.....folded da laundry, ate dinner, watched Terroir and now watching Lure of Wife

  202. BananaFysh:

Hehe - there's a lot of "outing" going on tonight. ;)

So tonight we found out that:

    ottotman = Ynaku
    and
    Ray = Ukuhead

    hehe

  203. BananaFysh:

@teejay - what? you calling me a female author?!?
    :?

  204. BananaFysh:

So anyways, there's a dead bird in the middle of the road a few houses over from mine. I dunno if it's my "little buddy."

Looks smaller than a mynah, but I didn't go up to it to check. :?

  205. opso:

BF - yup.....so now who BEE Koala? muahahaha!!

what's up with the crazy birds in your neighborhood? :?

bird brained? *barrump bump* sorry

Queenie - i'm watching Daughter in Law now.

  206. opso:

BF - you won't BEElieve this but i forgot about Lost again last week. aigoo....

so i had to watch the past 2 eps back to back online BEEfore this weeks one. thank god for those vids.

    Sayid shot "little" Ben!

  207. BananaFysh:

    @opso - Yes, many mysteries abound. ;)

What!? You forgot about Lost again?!?

WWD! How ODD!! Yeah, good thing you can catch them online. Thank you internet! :D What a great series of tubes! ;)

I think the Island will save "little Ben" - that creepy buggah not going die.

  208. opso:

creepy is right! that kid reeeeally looks like what Ben would've looked like when he was a kid.

  209. Shauna:

barrump bump, barrump bump, i'm still up...

opso: What is 'Lure of Wife" about? Title sounds interesting! ;)

Ynaku: Tsk, tsk. BTW, that picture you sent me was so so cute!! She looks just as cute as the girl on the package!

  210. BananaFysh:

@opso - yeah, they found a kid who really looks the part of Ben. Eerie....

I still can't get over the fact that Ben's dad is Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite. I'm waiting for him to fling a steak at somebody.

  211. BananaFysh:

Hey Queenie! Still awake? How ODD!

    hehehe

  212. BananaFysh:

@Shauna - So what's with this talk about you getting nekkid?

    Scandalous!

    ;)

  213. opso:

Queenie - it's getting really good now. it's about this poor daughter in law (PDIL) that married into a rich family (with irritating MIL = IMIL) with a luser husband (LH) that had an affair and a kid with her brothers fiance (evil BEEyatch = EB). which WAS her good friend that grew up and lived with her family after her parents died.

so now the EB is horning in on the LH and wants to BEE a part of the rich family. and the IMIL likes the EB and her kid. the LH divorces the PDIL BEEcause she promised the LH to grant him a divorce if he does not press attempted murder charges against her brother that beat him up and get him out of jail.

the LH wanted her to get an abortion BEEcause he and the EB feared his inheritance would go to her child. she didn't want to......so he took her to the ocean to scare her by both of them dying together. but he accidentally lost her and she couldn't swim and survived unBEEknownst to everyone.

so now she's going to fake her death and turns into a vengeful vixen and will seek retribution against EB, LH and IMIL. that's where the story is at right now. whew! so now you're caught up. :D

oh.....i'm going to brush my teeth now.

  214. opso:

BF - hah! uncle rico. yeah......and he might want to sell Kate the breast enlargement package or a tupperware set. haha!

oh yeah......and how bout that teepee guy from Newhart! "hi i'm Larry.....this is my brother Darryl.....and this is my other brother Darryl"

  215. opso:

they got a lot of "fringe" actors that you remember from other roles.

like Faraday. i still see him as cpl. Upham from Saving Private Ryan

    "hustle up Upham!"

" Upham! Upham! ammo goddamn it!"

  216. BananaFysh:

@opso - haha! uncle Rico is awesome! That would BEE funny if that come out in a blooper reel, him trying to sell Kate or Sun the breast enlargement thing.
    ;)

I was thinking the same thing about the teepee guy! I was telling my wife about that - the brothers Darryl. She was all - "Huh?!?" :?

  217. BananaFysh:

hehe Speaking of Fringe, that Abbadon guy is on that show. It's pretty cool, you should check it out if you haven't yet. Kinda like X-files, but with a JJ Abrams twist.

Yeah, I still see Faraday as Upham.

Miles is like every stereotypical Asian gangster guy.

Daniel Dae Kim was on 24 a while back. He was "Agent Baker." How ODD!! :D

  218. Ukuhead:

Okay. I outed myself 2 times already so I quit. I'll still probably use it as a "professional name". Too many people know when I'm posting.

  219. BananaFysh:

Speaking of 24, there seems to BEE a lot of crossover in actors BEEtween the 2 shows.

Daniel Dae Kim, Reiko Aylesworth, Lana Parilla, uhm, Marvin Candle (whatever his real name is), Charles Widmore, and a couple more were on both. I seem to recall reading that Desmond was on both shows too.

  220. opso:

Napolean Dynamite - that was one ODD flick......but oh soooo funny!

    GOSH!

i hardly watch any network shows nowdays......only Lost.
no mo time.....too much k-dramas to watch. heh

Miles was on one of the X-Men shows yeah? as the porcupine guy.

  221. Ukuhead:

Watching Snow Queen now. Song Yuri

  222. BananaFysh:

    8) 8)

  223. opso:

hey ukuhead! hard time eh having alter egos/split personalities. just ask BF and his protoge.......what's his name. zebra something. :?

Lost and 24 have some kind of producer, director in common?

  224. Shauna:

I can't wait to catch up on all my Korean also! Day off tomorrow! :D

  225. BananaFysh:

@Ukuhead - see what happens when you forget to switch your name?

I used to get busted all the time when I was using the "Fish" and "Fysh" spellings. Queenie always scolded me! Not like now, when I HARDLY get scoldings. haha!

  226. opso:

grats on da lucky numbah BF!

  227. Shauna:

opso and BananaFysh: You're making me all Lost! LAST!!

  228. BananaFysh:

@opso - yeah, I seem to recall Miles as the porcupine guy on X-Men.

Seems like he's always the Asian cop sidekick, or the Asian gangster.

O-ho, you remember my protege, huh? Neon Zebra. Stupid kid. hehe ;)

  229. BananaFysh:

@Shauna - Doesn't take much, does it?

    hyuk hyuk hyuk

  230. Ukuhead:

    Okay. Made me look.

  231. BananaFysh:

Oh, and whatchoo doing calling LAST already?

    New post up soon?

You planning on poaching that? I see.... ;)

  232. opso:

  233. BananaFysh:

Thank you for letting us know what you are up at AT ALL TIMES.

I still think Neon Zebra would have BEEn a better intern than that slacker who actually got the internship. ;)

  237. BananaFysh:

We usually don't get a new post on Tuesdays, right? S'allright - more posts for QB that way. And then we don't have to pretend as though we actually read the post before posting!

  289. teejay:

Okay for the duration of Lent I'll make the coffee....Coffee coming up for anybody that wants. Stand in line and no pushing.

  290. kate:

    Good Morning!

Just shot off about 2 dozen emails asking my brownie troop to send in their cookie money. What a pain in the ass.

  291. kate:

BF - How much is that breast enlargement thingy? Does it work? Have you tried it yet?

  292. kate:

Snow - not at the church. A summer day camp at JCI called Tanoshii camp. This is the second year they are doing it. The do things like taiko, ikebana, origami, language, and whatever else Japanese. They will even go to the Japanese American National Museum for a field trip. Cheaper than the YMCA camps she goes to and sounds like lots of fun.

I take it you're in HI. Ever in the South Bay for a visit?

  293. kate:

    I need coffee! NOW!

Only had about 4 hours of sleep after working on those dang cookie reports that are due Friday.

  294. NKHEA:

    Mornin everybody :)

    NKHEA...jus checking in

  295. BananaFysh:

    Good Morning Hive!

@kate - oh, we were talking about Kate, the Lost character, not you!

And no, haven't tried the breast enlargement. I'm "voluptuous" as is.

  296. Ynaku:

    Good Morning Hive.

I'm babysitting my G'Baby today. When the sun comes out, we might go feed the ducks at Wailoa Park.

We plan on going to the movies. Monsters vs Aliens or something like that. Cartoon flick.

She's watching PBS Kids right now and playing with a shapes puzzle. She's so smart. Must bee from Papa. :D

  297. Ynaku:

Good Morning KAN. Who reads this stuff anyway? We just like to talk story.

  298. Ynaku:

Hey we so close. Why not?

  299. Ynaku:

WHOO HOOO winna winna chicken dinna

  302. Ynaku:

KAN, you da winna for 288. So wat the next numba?

  303. anklebiters:

    NKHEA:

You're saved......I'm home now....was helping load baggage at the airport and dozed off in the cargo hold (must happen a lot since it happened to this baggage handler toooo :!: http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/item.aspx?type=blog&ak=64875831.blog )

The next thing I know, I'm in PHX. The baggage handler there thought I was a statue because I was in rigor mortis. They almost dropped me as I started to snore when they were carrying me out. My fingers are slightly frost bitten, had ice on my eyebrows   FAA was amazed that I made it alive as the flight was at 36,000' and no oxygen supply in the cargo hold.

The airport security told me to take the Bee Hive Fastflight the next time. They are always on time :!:

Sorry, no pictures of the in-flight meal

  304. anklebiters:

    Ynaku:

That's a good 3D movie for kids....I hear it's out in IMAX too.

  305. KAN:

Whoops, thanks Ynaku! Clearly I need more caffeine - I wasn't paying attention.

    Next #: 333!!!

  306. KAN:

I love stories about dumb criminals. Here's another one (from Seattle911 blog on the on-line only Seattle Post-Intelligencer):

"Microsoft camera thief caught – you guessed it – on camera.

Prosecutors have filed felony theft charges against a man police say was caught on video stealing several surveillance cameras from a Microsoft Corp. parking lot in Redmond.

Central to the prosecution's case against Charles W. Engerseth is video transmitted from the cameras that the 39-year-old is accused of stealing, according to police.

In court documents, investigating officers assert that Engerseth was caught on tape removing one of five cameras taken from a parking garage.

Still photos made from the recordings were circulated to Puget Sound-area law enforcement following the Nov. 18 theft. A Snohomish County sheriff's deputy who'd had prior contact with Engerseth identified him as the thief.

Serving a search warrant on Engerseth's home, State Patrol troopers found one of the missing cameras. He was arrested and has since been charged with first-degree theft."

  307. Shauna:

Good morning!! Boy, I just got up and am so tired already! Yaaaawwwnn!!

anklebiters: Haha, sorry to hear about your frostbite!! That NKHEA!! But that's right, the Bee Hive Fastflight is the way to go! ;)

snow: Shucks, I just missed you last night! But thanks for representing the vampire crew last night!! Then KAN and kate kick off the early morning and day and I come in at evening. We're covered nearly 24/7!! ;)

Ynaku: Got another day off? Lucky you! Have fun at the movies! Gonna buy any popcorn? Mmm!!!

  308. ukuhead:

We got punked on the new post.

  309. honda si boy:

for me, the room size doesn't really matter. hey, smaller the bed, the closer the girl has to snuggle up to you, right? :D the only thing, i would HAVE to have my own bathroom. i bet QB would too, right? if not, she would spend her whole vacation scrubbing the public bathroom before she stepped foot in it. not to mention cleaning up all that hair left behind in the shower! haha. so yeah, small room ok, public bathroom on vacation, heck no. and of course it all depends on where the vacation is. like vegas, no one really uses the room besides to store their luggage. but say for instance, 10 day trip to waikiki for someone from fargo ND, i'd want the vera wang suite at the halekulani!!!

on a related story, not sure if they still have it, but the train stations in the big cities of japan would have these super tiny cubicle like things that "sarari men" (salary men, aka business men) could rent out if they missed the last train home. they were super tiny and they only had a bed in it i think.

so yet another post actually related to the blog...but will it get ignored from QB like all the other times?!?!?!!? hahaha!

  310. honda si boy:

so into the second week of my spring break and what do i do? i pop a load of laundry in and then promptly go narcoleptic and crash on my bedroom floor half the night with the tv and laptop on. wake up and gotta do the zippy's midnight run cause i missed dinner time! hahaha. *sigh*

  311. honda si boy:

shauna: about the train station cubicle thingies in japan...maybe your ex future brother in law's ex future ex wife's sister's mother can verify that? :P

  312. Shauna:

honda si boy: You know you sound crazy when you say "ex future brother in law's ex future ex wife's sister's mother," right? But I will try to find out about those cubicle things you mentioned... So you get two weeks of spring break?? You didn't go anywhere??

  313. Shauna:

Ukuhead: Did you scare away all the newBEES?? ;)

BananaFysh: I think I remember Neon Zebra now!! Lightbulb!! :D

  314. honda si boy:

see shauna, i already know i'm crazy! but by knowing that, i must not BEE crazy right? cause real crazy BEEple don't know that they're crazy. uhmmm, does that make sense or am i going crazy?

and yes, grad students here get two weeks like the public k-12 system. :D i'm not complaining at all! and like i pointed out to BEEple on semester systems, my spring break comes between quarter terms so i don't have any homework at all to do on my break! sweetness! of course there's the cleaning, laundry, car washing, dog walking, blog posting catching up, *window washing*...stuff like that.

  315. anklebiters:

    ukuhead:

We're not getting our money's worth....we want a refund..we want a refund...how much of $0.00 do we get back :?:  We should be paying her for all the fun that we have on here :!:

  316. honda si boy:

oh, and yeah, BEEfore i'm labeled as a hypocrite, i didn't go anywhere on my break. no time between all the spring cleaning! :) but my grandma came up for some family party one weekend so i got to hang out with her. she made the bestest blueberry butter mochi thing. winnahs!!!!! can't beat お婆さん's cooking and baking!

  317. honda si boy:

anklebiters: free gatherings with the hive (who picks up the tab?) free cookies/snacks/okashii from big island, arizona, etc...i think that's quite a payday!!!! hahaha!

  318. BananaFysh:

Whoa! Honda Boy in da house! :D

Ho, making up for lost time, eh? ;)

  319. BananaFysh:

@Shauna - How could you forget Neon Zebra?!?!?

Awww, look, now he's crying. There, there, pay no attention to that mean old lady.

    hahahaha!!!
    I keed, I keed. ;)

  320. honda si boy:

BF: heck yeah man! i got 6 days free from school! and i was looking over my schedule and classes for this upcoming spring term and i think i'll BEE busier than last term! that's just great cause last term totally killed me. check that, it bit me, chewed me up, regurgitated me, and then killed me!

mayBEE i need to check into a (micro) hotel room to relax this term... (hah! had to stick in that last line to keep the post somewhat on topic...like the queen ordered! hahahaha!)

  321. Shauna:

honda si boy and BananaFysh: Hey, don't use my name in close proximity to the words "mean old lady" and "orders." Don't want people to get the wrong idea you know... ;)

anklebiters: You guys are so lucky that I provide you all this fun. In fact, you inspired me to come up with a new slogan! Come to O&E, where the fun is free!

  322. anklebiters:

    Shauna:

mean old lady + ordersfree :!:

  323. honda si boy:

shauna: HAA LAAAA!!!! did our own copy editor use redundancy in her post #321?!?!? "close proximity?!?!?!" tsk tsk. just "proximity" is fine as it already means close. i'm sooo disappointed in you. :P

i'm sure BF loves the "free" spankings too. :P i mean, the free spankings that are in the micro hotel rooms. in new york. with peeing gymnasts. (staying on topic here...)

  324. BananaFysh:

    @Shauna -

Hey, don't use my name in close proximity to the words "mean old lady" and "orders." Don't want people to get the wrong idea you know... ;)

And what would that BEE? Okay, I'll take back the "Old Lady" part, but the other descriptors ....

Come to O&E, where the fun is free!

Hm, I dunno about that. You pay a different price, just not in money.

Oh, my poor, crushed soul!

  325. BananaFysh:

@HSiB - Nothing is free, even the spankings. Especially the spankings.

  326. KAN:

okashii from big island, arizona, etc...

HSiB, you may be more accurate than you intended to be!

"okashi" = candy or other sweets.

    "okashii" = strange, ODD, weird.

I have a friend who used to regularly confuse "kawaii" (cute) with "kowai" (scared).

  327. KAN:

HSiB brings up an interesting point about "close proximity."

But here's what The American Heritage® Book of English Usage.
A Practical and Authoritative Guide to Contemporary English says:

    "§ 11. close proximity
Strictly speaking, the phrase close proximity says nothing that is not said by proximity itself. But like a few other common redundancies such as old adage and mental telepathy, this usage is too widespread and too innocuous to be worth objecting to." (Emphasis added).

    Unless you're honda si boy!

  328. BananaFysh:

    Wow.

    KAN = Wordgeek. ;)

    Now do "Near miss." ;)

    Isn't a "near miss" a hit?

  329. Fuzzy:

for me, the room size doesn't really matter. hey, smaller the bed, the closer the girl has to snuggle up to you, right?

Yes, for the first hour or so. Then it's hit the floor time, baybee...

I don't have a problem with public restrooms. I can take a dump anywhere.

Yeah. I roll with the possee.

  330. BananaFysh:

    *raises hand*

OOOH OOOOH!! I know! I know!

    "Irregardless."

    hyuk hyuk

  331. KAN:

    KAN = Wordgeek.

    DUH :!: :!: :!: Guilty as charged.

  332. Fuzzy:

    Swimming under water.

  333. KAN:

The phrase that drives me crazy is "I could care less." What the speaker usually means is "I couldn't care less."

Why do "flammable" and "inflammable" mean the same thing :?:

  334. Fuzzy:

    Snaking lucky numbers.

  335. KAN:

    Can I poach

  336. KAN:

    my own #?

  337. Fuzzy:

    Dang it Kan!!!

  338. KAN:

Banana could have left the word "Word" out of his #328 post and would have been equally accurate.

    Next #: 350.

  339. anklebiters:

half full vs half empty

Yay :!: it's time to go home :-)

  340. honda si boy:

  341. NKHEA:

Does anybody ova hea work :?

    NKHEA...ok back to work

  342. honda si boy:

kan: ack! i can't BEElieve i misspelled "okashi!!!" haha, i know about the kawaii and kowai one. that one is funny. and i also had to get corrected once about using the "-sou" form of adjectives (meaning "i think") and how it can't be used with "kawaii" cause "kawaisou" has a completely different meaning. aysos, too many rules in languages!

  343. BananaFysh:

    @NKHEA - Define "work." ;)

    hee hee hee

  344. honda si boy:

nkhea: haha! hmmm, i wonder.... well i just finished "working" up a fresh batch of starbucks coffee (italian roast) for the education office. mmmm. ok, gotta go back to printing out our re-accreditation paper work!

  345. honda si boy:

so not really a redundant phrase, but what about that whole "new and improved" phrase? how can it be both at the same time? if it's "new," that means nothing like it has been there before so it can't be "improved." but if it's "improved," that means something has been invented before in order to improve it, therefore it can't be "new." hmmmm... *scratching head*

  346. KAN:

HSiBoy: as far as I'm concerned, all bets are off when it comes to phrases used in advertising. :-)

  347. NKHEA:

BF, hsb; posting is not working :? den again....hm

    NKHEA...not working now

  348. NKHEA:

    NKHEA...leavin da building

  358. KAN:

@Kate: are you sure you're posting on the right blog? (just kidding!)

Work is only what I do in between posting on O&E!

  359. honda si boy:

kan: haha! i think you speak for many of us! :)

  360. kate:

I want a job like that!!!!

My job is only part time but when I'm there I have to WORK. Tax season so super BEEzy now. MayBEE I can BEE like you guys after April 15...if I'm not dead first.

  361. KAN:

Kate, my job is sometimes extremely busy and other times not so much (like today). One of the many nice things about my job is that if I'm not so busy, the bosses don't mind (much) if I websurf.

I have a cousin who's an accountant whose birthday is 4/15. Poor guy. He doesn't get to celebrate until the 16th.

  362. Masako:

    Wednesday, 8:40 am

    Good afternoon Hive! :)

Masako read about a place called Shimabata. A place that takes you back in time around the 1700. We had to catch 2 trains to get there and it took an hour. Once there it was well worth the effort. We walked around, visited the local market and strolled down the shopping strip which took us back in time. I think we were the only tourist there outside of Japan.

  363. M:

    I didn't know I was commenting under masako. :)

Today masako's family friend will be picking us up from our hotel and taking us places all day. I'm looking forward for todays adventures.

  364. M:

    moderation!

I was using masako's email address. Forgot to change it. Masako and I have our own computers back home so not use to changing user name and email address each time we blog. :)

  365. M:

    Does size really matter? :)

  366. anklebiters:

    Kate;

We're all virtual workers.....here but not here....

.....but never (at any time), and from (past) experiences and not (actual) experiences , (natural) instinct takes over as we all meet (together) at (12) midnight. The vampire crew are forever (always) getting into (awkward) predicaments without (advance) planning or (advance) warnings, like when a (baby) boy was born. We all join (together), like the Octo Mom, four (pairs of) twins, surrounded (on all sides) by used dydees, waiting for a lurker's (unexpected) surprise. Cease (and desist)...cease (and desist) we shout...the consensus (of opinion) over a (difficult) dilemma...when your (natural) instinct is to like somebody, (close) proximity is a good thing, regardless of how they feel about you. I see each (and every) member of the triangle are present and accounted for. All bets are (null and) void

    What am I saying :?: I dunno, I was trying HSiB's fun-with-words site :!:

  367. Shauna:

KAN: Fist bump on close proximity!! A true wordsmith knows by the sound of the word or phrase that it's fine to use it in the context that it was. But kudos to honda si boy for trying to dissect the technical usage of it! Hee hee! :)

honda si boy and BF: You guys crack me up with all those other redundancies!!

kate and NKHEA: Yeah, many of us wonder how much work lots of these folks get done. We really like to talk about everything and nothing. Now does that make literal sense??

Fuzzy: O&E found a new friend!! I think you'll get along with koala pretty well. Your fuzzy, furry friend. ;)

  368. kate:

    word nerd!
    word nerd!
    yay!

Daughter wants a pet snake. I don't want to get one because I don't want to feed it. The guy at the pet store said I have to feed the snake baby mice but first you have to kill the mouse BEEfore you give it to the snake. A mouse will attack the snake. The snake will then BEE afraid of mice and starve.

We had hermit crabs. One lived a year. Her triop just died. We have wierd animals at our house.

  414. kate:

  431. snow:

kate - that japanese camp sounds like fun! i live in hawaii now. my son plays taiko (though he's in japan now with the high school band). our family goes to bon dances all summer so we're all learning more about japanese culture. it's good for the young ones (the old ones, too... i have a lot to learn!). we haven't been to south bay since 2005 but my brother still lives in gardena, so we try to get back every so often (he's been coming here the past few years so we haven't gone up recently).

  432. anklebiters:

    snow:

Can you pick up a Zip pak for me? :-)

  433. snow:

*snow does not want to see  or hear about BF's cyclops! *

  434. snow:

sure, ankles! i'll have a zip pac coming your way in a jif! :D

  435. snow:

kate - you reminded me of the time i went to the agricultural inspection facility where they store all the animals confiscated from incoming flights to hawaii. lots of snakes! but i spied a container full of white mice... and asked "people try to smuggle mice to hawaii?" DUH. as soon as i asked, i knew what the mice were for! aigoo! poor mice! :(

  436. KAN:

Ankles-dat Zip pak you're asking snow for is gonna have to wait two more weeks before you get there!

  437. KAN:

*snow does not want to see  or hear about BF's cyclops! *

    Amen, sister.

  438. snow:

    hsib said:

    ack! i can't BEElieve i misspelled "okashi!!!

i think that was seriously freudian and ODD... don't you? hee hee... hsib, nice to "see" you here for longer than a hit and run!

  439. KAN:

Ankles, Sweetie loves the Bird and the Bee. I think Inara George has a great voice, but their music tends to grate on me.

  440. KAN:

    Snowwwwwwwwwwwwww!

I used to not like snakes (the real ones, not the metaphorical ones). But I had a chance to play with a medium-sized garter snake, and it was quite nice. Not slimy, just smooth.

  441. snow:

KAN and ankles - uhhh, perhaps given ankles arrival date, i should hold off on my purchase of his zip pac!

KAN - no cyclops, but i thought it was kind of funny that the mention of little worms came in about the same time. coincidence?

  442. teejay:

    Okay, from last night:
KAN- I would give a Johnathan Kellerman novel. His Alex Delaware series. Alex has a girlfriend Robin who is a luthier and knows her instruments.

opso- He said he likes action/adventure so I would give him a James Rollins, WEB Griffin, or Clive Cussler and his Dirk Pitt series of novels.

NKHEA- I would give a Lee Child with his Jack Reacher series or Stephen Hunter with his Bob Lee Swagger series of books because both protagonists are snipers.

  443. snow:

KAN - eewww... i think i'll pass on the snakes for now! at the most, i'd probably only be willing to touch one with my finger tip!

*feeling like this comment is gonna get me into trouble! ha ha!*

  444. C0hiba:

    Howzit Hive!
Had to run out after posting yesterday.

@Ynaku, the wind was not too bad, not like when Steve Miller was here last month. Probably 10-20, blowing from mauka to makai. Had quite a few Hilo-side peeps. Think you would have really enjoyed the music. Neal Schon's guitar is still awesome.

@opso, from the looks of the smokers, pretty sure they were from your neck of the woods, so probably puna butter.

@teejay, they flew in that evening after playing the night before in Hon. Seemed ok, they did the encores. Only disappointing thing was only had t-shirts, no hats or cd's cuz all sold out during the extended stay in Hon.

@kan, think the high voice comes from the tight pants. Arnel can really work the crowd. Had them on their feet the whole concert, singing and screaming.

  445. kate:

    zip pac > costco pizza

    sigh...

  446. KAN:

no cyclops, but i thought it was kind of funny that the mention of little worms came in about the same time. coincidence?

FISTBUMP!!! Made me cackle out loud!

  447. KAN:

@Opso: makes me think of the old Beamer Brothers classic:

"There was a fine young wrestler from Kalihi
And he built his big strong body eating sashimi
The girls would scream wherever he went
    It wasn't for his intelligence
They only screamed when he put on his tight, black shorts."

Good for Arnel. I'm not a big Journey fan (they're waaaay too recent for me) but he's making the most of his talents. I love rags to riches stories.

  448. KAN:

'k - gotta go watch "Food Detectives" now. Back soon.

  449. anklebiters:

    snow:

    I suppose I could wait another 2 weeks :-(

    KAN:

    Birds & Bees ==> Musketeers :!:

  450. snow:

C0hiba - sounds like everything went great for the journey concert! i had to laugh about that tight pants comment!! have you recuperated? :)

  451. kate:

Our last pet was a triop. It just died. If you want to see what a triop is, they look like hermit crabs.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHLyEbVFo7w

  452. anklebiters:

    teejay:

Dirk Pitt my kind of book hero. Have you read any Doc Savage books?

  453. teejay:

C0hiba: I can't believe how much they underestimated Journey's drawing power in Hawaii. Uncle Tom should've known better and in this economic climate they could have made a killing on four islands. I'm sure Kauai would've sold out although I don't what venue they could play at.

  454. snow:

C0hiba - heh heh... i meant ":have your recuperated from all the work you had to do?"... not "have you recuperated from (seeing? :? ) the tight pants?!"

  455. snow:

    KAN - *fist bump* ;)

  456. snow:

hey! i got the lucky number that i was oblivious to, again! next lucky number is 480!

*looking around for banana - "yup, banana... got lucky again and didn't even know it!"*

  457. C0hiba:

    @snow, too funny.
Advil does wonders. Shins still hurt from all the walking to pickup ticket stubs, brief ticket collectors, up and down the stairs. To top it all off, I had to climb up on the roof (cat walk) at the end of the concert to take down some wireless equipment.

@ankles, if you're still here, we had to make a last minute wireless shoot from the roof top to a new entrance all across the bowl for the ticket scanners. So we used power strips and indoor switches with unprotected cat 6 wires, covered the equipment in trash bags. Prayed that it wouldn't rain and had to take it down as soon as the concert was over

@teejay, the highlight for me was meeting and talking story with Uncle Tom the morning of the event. What a cool guy.

  458. teejay:

ankles: I've never read any Do Savage books. Who's the author?
If you like Dirk Pitt you might want to try reading WEB Griffin and his Badge of Honor series with Matt Payne and The Presidential Agent series with Charley Castillo. Stephen Coonts with Jake Grafton and Dale Brown with Patrick McCannahan.

BF- As much as I kid and get on his case I think BF would really enjoy Stephen Kings "Dark Tower" series which includes the Gunslinger, Drawing of the Three, The Wastelands, Wizards and Glass, Wolves of Calla, Song of Susannah, and the Dark Tower. One of the greatest openings and endings I've ever read. 'Nuff said.

  459. teejay:

OL- He seems to be hooked on the Jesus book and is observing Lent right now so I would give him Dan Brown's Angel and Demons and The Da Vinci Code

  460. teejay:

C0hiba: Anybody who's met Elvis has to be cool.

  461. kate:

teejay: I found Angel and Demons hard to read, not like the Da Vinci Code. I couldn't finish the whole book. You going see the movie? The trailer is on Yahoo.

  462. teejay:

kate: Angel and Demons is coming out in a movie. I had a problem watching Tom Hanks in The Da Vinci Code and that was one of the fastest reads I've had....ever. Ron Howard didn't do the book justice just like most of Stephen Kings books although The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption were two Oscar contenders.

  463. teejay:

  464. teejay:

    oops....ditto.

  465. kate:

teejay: the trailer. tom hanks again as Professor Langdon again.

    http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809951159/trailer

  466. teejay:

I'm so glad "Vince" from Shamwow fame got busted for battery of a prostitute and hopefully we won't see him anymore. I hope Billy Maze is next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  467. teejay:

kate: Thanks for the trailer. Funny thing is I can watch a movie after I read the book but I can never read a book after the movie came out even if I've never seen the movie. Carrie, Christine, Cujo, Firestarter, Dead Zone and The Stand are just a few of the books I won't read because the movie came out before I got to the book.

  468. teejay:

I wonder if "Vince" tried to impress the prostitute with his shamwow and she laughed at his shamwee.

  469. ukuhead:

So are there any movies that you enjoyed more than the book?

    I have three.

    A Walk to Remember
    Dances with Wolves
    The Firm

  470. teejay:

Correction: It's Billy Mays and I hope he drops dead from some bodily function and quits on him big time.

  471. teejay:

Ukuhead: That was one hell of a question and I had to think with is usually painful for me. I would say that watching Alex Haley's "Roots" in the '70's was enjoyable even though that was made for tv and not the big screen. Kunta Kente and Chicken George were household names back in the day.

  472. Shauna:

wow, from snakes to music to food to books to ???

teejay: Find any scandalous titles for me? ;)

snow: I think you had the last lucky number!

kate: I didn't know you had to feed a pet snake a dead mouse! What else do they eat?

  473. Shauna:

snow: Oops! I saw you did the next lucky number, which is coming up soon!!!

  474. Shauna:

Ukuhead: I liked "A Walk to Remember." What about "The Notebook"?

BananaFysh: How's cyclops doing? Did it get fed dinner?

  475. Shauna:

kate, KAN and snow: Mice, among many other things, freak me out! Is it that crazy-long tail? Ugly face??

  476. Shauna:

NKHEA: Yeah, I did get your e-mail!! Sorry, last night at work was super super BEEZY!!

  477. Shauna:

anklebiters: Did you decide on where would BEE a good golf course to have our mini competition on?

  478. Shauna:

opso: Oh yeah, I saw a quick preview of "Lure of Wife." How many episodes have aired already? My DVR is one show away from max capacity!

  479. Shauna:

    Is everyone watching "Idol"?

  480. Shauna:

    Yay! #480!! :D

  481. kate:

I was told you can kill the mice and keep them in the freezer so you always have snake food.

  482. Shauna:

    Next number: #515

  483. kate:

    just thaw and serve

  484. Shauna:

kate: Hello!! But exactly how do you kill a mouse? And gross! Keep dead mice in your freezer? Or would it not smell cause it's frozen? I would faint if I saw dead mouse eyes staring at me as I'm reaching for ice cream or something!

  485. BananaFysh:

Hm, no wonder my ears were ringing so much!!

I don't recall my snake/cyclops ever generating so much buzz!

    Yikes!!

  486. teejay:

Shauna: You know I've thought about this and I feel that I could give you a book by Dean Koontz and you would love "Odd Thomas". A great read and somewhat in the mold of the Sixth Sense.

  487. kate:

    about books and movies...

I think a movie that has grand sweeping vistas and visuals help make it better than the book. Ukuhead, just like your Dances With Wolves. The English Patient comes to mind. The movie was just BEEautiful but the book was just so-so.

I always thought Austen's Pride and Prejudice was untouchable (the old movie with Sir L didn't do it justice) but the BEE BEE C did a great job. Also helped that Colin Firth was in that one. It took a mini series to cover the entire story but hey, Colin Firth was in it so I was OK with that. Did I mention that Colin Firth was in that movie?

  488. teejay:

Shauna: On second thought Kim Harrison with Rachael Morgan who is a witch and is hooked up with vampires and werewolves is more like you and the late night crew.

  489. kate:

dunno how to kill a mouse.

I once lived in an apartment that had mice. We would set sticky mouse traps all over the place and use peanut butter (they like pb) to catch them. When we got near one, they would hiss at us so we would pick up the trap with newspaper, stick them in a plastic shopping bag, and swing that bag around until they died. I think they got a heart attack from the bag swinging.

  490. kate:

already saw american idol. I'm on the west coast.

    Kris Allen is my boy!

  491. teejay:

kate: There is help for you. Just say no to corporate tv and give up reality tv shows.

  492. Shauna:

teejay: No, I'm not into vampires and werewolves and stuff... I like humans better! ;)

kate: LOL!!! I can't BEElieve you guys would swing a mouse around in a shopping bag? Did it make any shrieking noises?? OMG! I could never do that!

BananaFysh: Of course talk of that is going to generate buzz. Don't you remember that everyone comes to O&E to "catch the buzz"?

  493. Shauna:

teejay: On closer reading, I hope you're not saying I'm the witch!! :( Oh, BEE quiet, BananaFysh!

  494. ukuhead:

Of the three movies I mentioned above, I liked the movie versions of Dances with Wolves and The Firm because the endings were better than the book.

A Walk to Remember - the movie version had Mandy Moore's "list". That really added something to the story. The soundtrack was fantastic as well. Oh yeah, cannot forget Peter Coyote's narration.

Oh well, so much for doing book reviews

  495. teejay:

Shauna: Trust me you would like the book. Sex and violence and humor all in one.

  496. snow:

i remember when i was little they tore down an old warehouse down the block. apparently, that's where all the mice were living!! i opened the door one day and a mouse ran into the house, then into our hall closet. we put out traps and when it got caught, it was crying (or squealing! ick!)! made me feel bad... for a little while, at least! ha ha! i preferred to have the mouse dead in the trap then in our house!!

  497. Ray:

    497

  498. wanda:

    498

  499. Fuzzy:

    499

  500. Ukuhead:

    500!!!! Teamwork

  501. snow:

ukuhead - i didn't like the ending of the movie version of "the firm!" mail fraud??? pu-leeeez... i did, otherwise, like the movie (what's not to like about tom cruise? but, i thought his wife looked too old for him!) though i preferred the book overall. i think i preferred the movie "the pelican brief" over the book, though. i liked the movie "a walk to remember," although i cried and cried... and cried... !! i generally wouldn't cry as much reading a book!

kate - kris allen did great tonight!! doesn't hurt that he's a cutie, too! mice in the freezer... sounds pretty gross... !!

  502. snow:

ukuhead - you're starting to scare me...

  503. snow:

qb - the thing about mice that freaks you out? the beady red eyes!!

  504. snow:

ankles - did you get the zip pac? i decided to send it express!!! i didn't want you to have to wait for it two weeks... you can have another when you get here!! :) enjoy (but you might have to share with kate!)!

  505. Shauna:

    Ukuhead: Teamwork! Snort snort! ;)

snow: Yes, it was the beady red eyes! Albino!

  506. BananaFysh:

ho wow, still talking stink about me? da noive!

What's this talk about mouses now?

I have a kinda gross story about a "mouse removal" incident.

  507. BananaFysh:

    Mousie story

Was when we still had our paintball shop. (You can guess where this is going) ;)

One afternoon there was a mouse cruising on a shelf behind the counter, and not wanting to get hanta virus or leptospirosis, we decided to do some vector control. ;) So, we had a "mouse remover" handy - a paintball gun. One of the boys took careful aim while that little critter perched on the a shelf with some supplies on it.

At that moment, it was actually kinda cute - and a split second later, a gelatin capsule loaded with pink water based paint took that critter's skull cap right off! It was a CLEAN shot. The body didn't really move - it was just missing it's head right above the eyes. Pretty gnarly. I cleaned all this brain and skull fragments mixed with pink paint from the wall. It was a scene right out of Pulp Fiction

At that moment, I was Guns of the Navarone. I was Superfly TNT. I was a mushroom-cloud laying mother. ;)

  508. Shauna:

BananaFysh: So you felt like a king killing a mouse?? That's too grossly graphic of a story! What about when you were working at Longs? Did you see a lot of mice running rampant among the stock? Ugh!

  509. BananaFysh:

Hehe - I wasn't the triggerman on that occasion - but I've shot and killed mice and rats with my paintball gun. ;)

Oh, and it wasn't mice I saw in the warehouse at Longs - they were huge rats! Not all the time - but sporadically. Pretty unnerving. They would take the forklift out on joyrides and stuff. Bastards!

  510. BananaFysh:

I never said I felt like a king! I'm quoting movie lines. Again, Queenie fails to catch the reference.

Ask opso or Honda Boy for help on that one, Queenie. hehe

  511. snow:

    hey banana and qb!

banana - aww, that pooooor mouse never knew what hit him!! that's pretty disgusting!!

  512. opso:

    hallo hallo!! :D

BF - what.....you was on "brain detail?" ;)

  513. BananaFysh:

    Hi snow! :D

Yeah, that little menace had a quick death. I assume it was painless. Better than suffering on a glue trap, though, right?

  514. opso:

"you must have BEEg rats if you need Hattori Hanzo's steel." ;)

  515. opso:

    sup Queenie & snow! :D

  516. BananaFysh:

opso! You, I was on brain detail.

Gnarly. Was all mixed in with that pink paint. But could tell what chunks were brain - they were gray. ;)

I guess that mouse's name was Marvin? ;)

  517. opso:

woo hoo! no need work tomorrow! :P

but i gotta BEE home cause we have main drain cleaning in our building and gotta let them in my unit. what a waste of a day. grrr... :x

  518. snow:

    hi opso! :)

  519. Shauna:

opso: You hit the last lucky number! Woo-hoo! Next one, please! I'm going to do a quick check now to see if BF updated his spreadsheet!

snow: Hello hello! Thanks for the photos! No one sent me review comments so mayBEE I'll play a little game with the photos. I'll make use of it somehow...

  520. opso:

was funny when after Vincent shot Marvin in da head and had some pieces of brain hanging from Jules jerry curls. haha!!

  521. snow:

opso - ahhhh, you can be blogging all day! i don't work tomorrow either, but i have to stay home to keep an eye on my mom and watch my dog to make sure he's okay.

  522. snow:
